Taylor Swift - Speak Now (Taylor's Version) Reaction

Comments

I joined your patreon because I discovered you on youtube seeing you watching horror movies, but seeing you also be into Taylor Swift, BTS, & One Direction really makes me feel like I 100% did the right thing in joining. Literally my favorite artists of all time along with Twice. This album is INCREDIBLE!

Tionne

and Kieran Culkin, which is so cute because he's great.

Janet Michelle

You're such a lyric person and Fall Out Bot has some of the best lyrics ever written. They're known for it. I highly suggest going through their discography. I think you'd fall in love with them. Also Patrick Stump's is INCREDIBLE. Taylor said she WISHES she could write lyrics like do and they're a huge inspiration to her.

Janet Michelle

Timeless is easily one of my favorites hands down (I promise it's not final song bias lol). As a writer myself I'm always inspired when an artist just creates an entire world in their songs and paints such a beautiful journey message until the end. Thank you for this reaction!! Definitely my favorite Taylor album so far! ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’™

Sabrina The Scientist

35 minutes in. Thank you for the reassurance ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

3 minutes in Waiting for your candle to catch the paper tassels on fire ๐Ÿ˜…

Has anyone else noticed that the vocal and musical bridge (at 2:52) in "I Can See You" is very, very similar "Speak Now?" I wonder if ICSY was composed first and then Taylor repurposed the bridge tune to create SN? ...Adding, the main ICSY tune sounds a lot like her collaborations with the HAIM sisters. The vocal tone and cadence is very similar to "no body, no crime."

Robisan

This album was pure perfection! I love your reactions so much!

Brandon Curtsinger

I really hope you give Fall Out Boy a shot at some point. Patrickโ€™s vocals are incredible as is his song writing. Even Taylor herself is a fan and theyโ€™ve worked together a bunch.

Your reaction was the one I was most excited for and girl I laughed and cried with you the whole way lol Speak Now was my favorite until Folklore came out and it's still a CLOSE second and I'm just so proud of her and so happy for her that she gets to own this masterpiece finally so I also got emotional during Mine lol as a 32 year old, listening to a 32 year old Taylor singing it, Innocent really has changed for me to be more about being kind to yourself and remembering that your mistakes don't define you and it's never too late to heal and change. I am in mourning over the shaky breath from Last Kiss, I've always thought that was her most devastating breakup song and that breath had a lot to do with it. LOVE the vault tracks, they took a minute to grow on me admittedly but I Can See You has been stuck in my head since I heard it lol and yea overall I'm just so happy lol Long Live has even more depth and meaning to it now cause we're still here fighting those dragons together with her ๐Ÿ’œ

Meghan Blust

Omg right!!!!! ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ

ours also hits so hard when youโ€™re the one with the bad reputation <3

Love this reaction -- Had the time of my life vibing with you to Taylor in her most Swiftian era! I think the reason the album felt so nostalgic yet so new and relevant is because her songwriting was truly beyond her years, but I don't think that always was recognized back on the original because of her younger/teenage voice -- it reminded you how young she was and I think that colors it a little. But now with her mature vocals the maturity and complexity of the songwriting comes through a bit stronger. "Never Grow Up" hits so different as an adult. "Enchanted", "Haunted", and "Long Live" hit a level of epic that very much did not disappoint. I honestly do not have a single negative thing to say about any song, it just kept getting better and better. I don't think I ever bopped this much to "Superman" before. I always liked it and thought it was cute, but this re-record slaps. Your reaction to "Electric Touch" was everything I needed today, Caitlin -- thank you! re: Castles Crumbling - I think this was written around the time Taylor started getting her first wave of bad press. Like she caught some flak for the Joe Jonas break-up when she put him on blast on Ellen's show. And that's when all the focus on Taylor's love life started and the questions about is it fair that she writes these songs about her exes -- even though all of us know now how sexist that question is because dudes write songs about their exes all the time and never get asked that question, but back when you're as young as Taylor, you almost get gaslit a little into wondering if you're doing something wrong. And then also with Kanye, while the media was initially on Taylor's side with the 2009 VMAs incident, after a while I think because she was quiet for so long and refusing to speak about it people saw that as her holding a grudge or playing the victim card for too long. (Obviously this is before they heard "Innocent"). Obviously these critiques and many more would get louder in the 1989 era, but they started taking root in that transition from Fearless to Speak Now. Prior to folklore/evermore, Red was my longtime favorite album, so when that Taylor's Version dropped it was super meaningful to me the way it seems Speak Now is to you (I'm glad I got to "share" both moments with your videos geeking out over T.Swift.). And while Red TV still may be my fave re-record so far -- I have to admit Speak Now TV is giving it a run for its money and I'll need some time for things to settle (avoiding relevancy bias) to see which wins out. But I will venture to say as much as I love Red TV's vault, I think on the whole Speak Now TV has the strongest vault tracks.

another thing which makes hayley's collab here more crazy and on point on this album is that supposedly speak now is about when hayley told taylor about josh (ex guitarist of paramore and hayley's ex) was getting married and taylor was like oh maybe you should do the speak now and she wrote the song...she told the story in an interview back in the day but obviously never said which friend it was but taylor was in josh's wedding in 2010...and during speak now tour taylor wore a lot a phrase on her arm from one of their songs "misguided ghosts" from brand new eyes (2009)

Nine Anutza

hayley said in an interview that she felt identified with the lyrics right away after she read them, cuz both of them went through crazy shit around the time paramore's album brand new eyes (2009) and speak now (2010) came out and around that time in 2009 was when they became close after the vma's crap and in 2010 when josh and zac left paramore and a lot of the press and fans that were on josh's side and against hayley and saying she was the bad guy in the situation without hearing her version of events and how that affected her so damn much; especially after josh's statement and did a lot of harm to hayley, so they both were going through a lot around this time, so the lyrics really bring home so much stuff beyond what some people are realizing. also there's a part that kinda calls back paramore's song idle worship which you reacted from after laughter which is about what people thought of hayley in her head and how she saw herself in fans' eyes when shit was happening and she was at her lowest, so wanted to ran away and wrote that song... so this has a lot more meaning when you know details of stuff like this and it did for me, like being a fan of both of them had me with my heart broken between 2009 and 2011 non-stop and again in 2015-2018 when a lot of stuff was happening in both of their lives again...so this song means a lot to me as fan of both of them...and you can hear hayley's lower register in the chorus and bridge and second and third verses under and on top taylor's vocals they're there (also taylor york guitarist of paramore and hayley's partner recorded and produced her parts on this song and to me makes it more special, cuz he was there alongside hayley through everything they've been through especially the darkest of times in 2009-2011 and 2015-2018); and her lower vocals are amazing and if you wanna hear more, you should listen to her solo albums petals for armor (2020) and flowers for vases/descansos (2021) which the second one she did by herself even playing the instruments without telling the label she was doing it (sounds familiar?) lol hayley's is the best and makes so happy and proud they've been there for each other through a lot through the years and now paramore gets to do it again on eras tour 48 times around europe next year <3

Nine Anutza

I said the exactl same thing about it feeling like hunger games music! I wonder if it will be on the Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes soundtrack!!!

Destiny Murtaugh

I think โ€˜Long Liveโ€™ should have been the last song of the Eras Tour too. This song always brings me right back to the very first night of seeing her live at the Speak Now Tour ๐Ÿ’œ

Will Mason

Ellie

''im not extra im just very pationate'' and i LOVE you for that

alex

I absolutely adore this album version, it's so good?! And the vault tracks? I Can See You is the best thing ever omg. When Emma Falls In Love is about one of Taylor's friends! (Possibly Emma Stone, but that's a rumour.) And I've read somewhere that Timeless is about her grandparents.

Teuntje

The first time I listened to Better than Revenge, I was singing so loudly that I completely missed the lyric change and was confused "Where was the lyric change I thought there was a lyric change"

Aggrothehorse

Timeless just cuts straight through to the hopeless romantic in me and makes me burst into tears every time.

Jack B

I haven't been able to stop thinking about the music video for I Can See You

Callum Ringsy

castles crumbling reminds me of when she said in miss americana that she thought the VMAS crowd was booing her, i feel like that might've inspired it and it makes me ugly cry

Anna Sofie

I've been sooo waiting for this~! are you going to react to the Taylor Swift I Can see you MV?! Kansas City had to go through listening to "Never Grow up" live and that would've just DESTROYED me.
