Things to remember for drawing legs

This time, following the previous lecture, I want to be able to draw legs to put on pants! I would like to respond to the request of "I want to be able to draw legs to put on trousers!

Table of Contents

1. At the beginning

2.Be aware of the silhouette of the legs

3. Know the shape of the bones

4. Know the shape of the muscles

5. Differences in skeletal structure by sex

6. Application: Macho and Skinny

7. Finally, let's look at the following

1. At the beginning

Following the previous lecture, by DM or comments, I have a vague understanding of how to draw the wrinkles on the pants, but I can't draw the legs first 😭". I would like to explain about the legs this time!

I'd like to explain about the range of motion of the femur without talking about the difficult part of it. I'd like to give you a "rough" explanation without talking about difficult things like the range of motion of the femur...! I'd like to explain about the anatomy of the leg this time too!

If you want to study anatomy but feel it's too difficult... If you want to study anatomy but feel it's too difficult, I would be very happy if you could use this lecture as a gateway to learning 🥺✨.

2. Be aware of the silhouette of your legs

First of all, let's start thinking from what we can see, not from the inside, such as muscles and bones!

I will explain this using a diagram of a feminine leg!

When you look at the silhouette, you can sort of see the gentle undulations that follow the shape of the muscles~!

The appeal of the ↓ silhouette may be particularly influenced by these colored areas.

I will explain in more detail later, but in the feminine case, the protrusion of the waist is also a point that makes it look like that!

3. Know the shape of the bones.

Knowing where the bones are located may help you draw the pose more freely!

Let's take a quick look at just the main bones!

The main skeletons of the legs are

Thigh bone (femur)

Bones below the knee (tibia and fibula)

The patella (knee bone)

Even if you don't remember the names, there is one thigh bone and two bones below the knee! It is OK if you just know that there is one thigh bone and two bones below the knee!

It is also good to know that the thigh bone is related to the protrusion of the base of the foot, and the bone below the knee is related to the protrusion of the ankle!

4. Know the shape of the muscles

Let's take a quick look at the muscles!

The main muscles of the leg are

Thigh muscles like a belt (suture muscles)

Calf muscles (soleus and gastrocnemius)

Every muscle has a part that faces the contour!

Since these muscles have a great deal to do with the shape of the silhouette, it will be easier to draw if you have a "rough" grasp of the muscles!

5. Differences in skeletal structure by gender

Although there are individual differences, there are actually differences in skeletal shape depending on gender!

In particular, there is a big difference in the skeleton around the waist, in this figure, it is the femur 🤔.

In the feminine case, the base of the femur has a large curve.

In the masculine case, the curve is loose and the femur has a stooping shape.

This difference in the curve of the femur is one of the reasons why the buttocks can look bigger or smaller!

6. Application: Macho and Skinny

Now we come to the application of muscles!

Let's take a look at the difference between skinny and macho!

First, let's look at the normal body type!

The masculine skeleton and muscles are the same in location and number as the feminine ones.

The only difference is the size of the muscles 🤔.

Then, next, let's draw a picture of a slimmer figure based on the above figure!

Your calves and thighs have become thinner!

At this point, the area circled in red is the most important point, but have you noticed why?

All of these red circles have one thing in common: "the skeletal part facing the silhouette"...

In other words, if we increase or decrease the muscles based on this skeletal part, we will not go out of balance...!

If you ignore this standard, you will end up with an unbalanced look, so be careful✨

Next up is macho!

You can make it look like that by making the area around the joints just a little bigger and boldly adding muscle mass to the rest of the body!

The more muscle mass you have, the easier it will be to see the unevenness of the muscles 🤔.

The more unevenness, the more you can draw in, the more you can make it look like that!

7.Finally

How was it?

I think many people are reluctant to study anatomy because of its stiff image, but just by putting a little bit of anatomy into your mind, you can make your drawings more convincing, so there is no harm in studying it!

If you are too lazy to learn the basics 😭, I recommend that you start by studying "roughly" as much as you can understand, using this course as a reference!

If you study too hard from the beginning, you may get tired, so it's better to start with the part you want to draw!

I hope everyone can feel that feeling of being able to draw the parts you couldn't draw before...!

That's all for this lecture!

Look forward to the next lesson ✨!
