2023-04-01 15:44:21 +0000 UTChonestly feel like this could have been a lot worse in terms of the hot takes, there were only a few that were too much (no, actually, homophobia was neither initially nor uniquely a western or even a christian phenomenon, i'm sorry to report) or else a little underbaked (the moral dimensions of separating art from artist--or not--deserved more than a hand-wave, especially given that, like everything else, that is /also/ a political act, though that said it was probably astute not to go too hard on this) or a little under-informed (re Japan and housing for example). otherwise the anime/censorship/rest of japan takes were interesting and insightful and the dynamic with the boys was great, and I love how wide-ranging it was. the comment on turkish and comparative language bits near the end with thai and welsh were esp interesting--I always think of turkish (from my fam) as very like, friendly and almost sing-songy, and not really harsh at all. Anyway--solid ep!
