On this day (yesterday) 20 years ago, Doctor Who returned with "Rose" introducing us to companion Rose Tyler and the Ninth Doctor. It captured the imagination immediately, by subverting the familiar and everyday, it laid the groundwork for who the characters were and what the show was, without getting bogged down in the 40+ years of lore that came before. It was fun, funny, a little scary, fast paced, a lot more engaging than The Unearthly Child had been to me a few years prior as a kid with undiagnosed ADHD, and still the best onboarding point for new Doctor Who, if you want to give someone a fresh start. In my opinion, much better than The Eleventh Hour, and The Church on Ruby Road.
Rose Tyler, what if the Doctor wasn't in the shop's basement that day?
