Hi all! Baku again! It’s time for another devlog.

This week I added the finishing touches to all the main storyline quests. They now follow the story smoothly and give hints about where to go next. The text is already being inserted into the game by our programmer. It’s currently unclear exactly how long this will take, but we’ve reworked so much that the game essentially has to be rewritten from near-scratch.

In the meantime, I’ve been busy drawing new minigames. Over the next two weeks, the plan is to draw four new minigames that will be necessary for making money. As I do that, I’ll also need to assign the related tasks for the new minigames and the reworking of the old ones to the programmer. I’ve already begun doing that, and I’ll keep at it.

I was also thinking that we’d need chibis for a scene at the beginning of the game (where Tifa wakes up), but after inserting them into the game, I realized they’re unnecessary and everything looks pretty good. The only question mark is what to do with a moment when Tifa jumps up from the bed. We can’t use her normal sprite there — she’s naked — but redrawing the whole sprite for such a little thing seems impractical. Perhaps we’ll use our new background character art feature there.

We’ve also finished the first crowd background for the beginning of the game. We’ll need another background as well, which I’ve assigned to our background artist. We could probably get by without this background... but it’ll make things more visual, which is good, and it’s not as hard to make as most backgrounds. Besides, I think we can reuse it a couple of times in the future.

Also, this week we did the sound effects for 0.7, and soon we’ll be making them for the new beginning! The prologue has turned out to be really epic, but it’s missing a soundtrack and a bunch of cool sound effects. We’ll do all of that once the scene with Iden is finished.

This was a very productive week; we managed to put in a lot of work and get things done.
