So used to seeing the clips from his US show. Doesn't all hold up, has been a fun watch though. Be worth checking out some of the 11 O'clock show skits he did - I remember one in particular with a Welsh choir that was very funny.

The slight name change was brought about by a wish to distance the town from the damage to reputation and mockery that followed the Ali G phenomenon. Believe me, for a while, it was exhausting. Staines has little else to be famous for. One of the other names considered was "St. Aines" but the church were upset about that and adamant that you "can't just make up saints". 🤣

2025-10-06 19:03:06 +0000 UTCI am actually from Staines. Sometimes he references real places, sometimes it's made up. I was in my early twenties when Ali G was a big thing. There was a bit of a street war between young people of different subcultures at the time, in which I was a soldier. I thought we kept it quiet but it seems Staines did have that reputation, which might be part of why it was picked by Sacha. I was manager of the local Our Price when they shot the first movie. They scouted my shop as a filming location for it, but I guess they either thought better of it in the end, or management declined. I did watch many scenes being filmed however. Ali G's Renault 5 was frequently parked in the car park across from my work during filming days that required it. I'm open to questions about any of this. 😅

She earned the title of 'Dame Anita Roddick' through her human rights and environmental campaigns and charitable deeds. When she passed away, she left her entire £50m+ wealth to charity edit: I'm so happy that your cat is back :)
