I was listening to the podcast on my iPod Touch in a lift in St Thomas's hospital in London and it literally made me burst out laughing. There were 5 other people in the same lift and it was one of the most embarrassing moments of my life.

Like when Karl was talking about his male lover Harry, and Ricky says "did you know Harry was a poet before you married him and made love to him at night?" and Ricky is right that sarcasm is "up there" in terms of comedic value even to this day. I'll be sad to see this series or show ending soon, but I would recommend watching Derek and then Life's Too Short next.

For me 'Keep the home fires burning' means to just keep routine things normal, and look forward to the day they get home. We used to write letters (we have boxes of them) and we rarely wrote about 'mundane' daily stuff (except for what our daughters were doing) - I didn't write about the boiler breaking, and he didn't write about scary stuff he was doing. As the time got closer to his coming home, he used to write NORWICH on the bottom of the letter - he knew the girls would be reading them. π

Depending on each of our own personal perspectives. I think an younger me might have thought, owe that's a bit much. But now reassured me, gets a warm feeling from the clear love and appreciation you guys have for each other. That's a nice fortunate thing, it truly is.
