I lived the first 22 years of my life in Glasgow, in a place called Cambuslang; maybe where Craiglang came from. I'd never watched Still Game until Mike and Jess started to cover it. I'm so glad to that you did because it's funny, emotional and takes me back to my childhood and adolescence.

2025-09-03 00:10:49 +0000 UTCas he was living as a hermit since 1966 he would not know what a microwave was. I joined the Royal Navy in 1967 and it was whilst on leave at Skegness that I saw my first microwave in a pub it was atop a vending machine and you put a plastic programmed stick into the side of it to start it. It wasn't till years later that we could afford a modern style microwave like we have now.

2025-09-02 14:37:37 +0000 UTCA great script and episode and a lovely performance from Sylvester McCoy (who played Archie) and was, between 1987 - 1989 the 7th Doctor in the BBC sci-fi series, “Doctor Who.” McCoy was the last actor to play the Time Lord from Gallifrey in what is now referred to as “Classic Who,” (1963 - 1989) to distinguish it from the rebooted series which came back in 2005 and is known now as “NuWho.”

2025-09-02 12:37:48 +0000 UTCThey gave him McDonald's and were being nice for no reason. They've literally never shown them being nice. There seemed to be no point for that scene, and then he's broken into. That's where my mind jumped to. They had been following him every since they gave him the McDonald's. They gave it to him so they could track him by scent.

2025-09-02 12:07:52 +0000 UTCIf you've seen the Hobbit movies, maybe you'll recognise Archie. He played Radegast the Brown. He was also well known as Dr Who in the 80s.

2025-09-02 10:11:18 +0000 UTCMy parents bought one of the first affordable domestic microwaves, in the early 70s. It's been used multiple times every day since and is still going strong. Never had an issue with it.

2025-09-02 09:42:05 +0000 UTCHe booted his TV in 1966 because England won the football world cup - is probably the context you're missing from that.

2025-09-02 09:33:53 +0000 UTCBack in the 80’s there was a house round the corner from us. It was pretty rundown. The front garden was overgrown, the windows were dirty it was just so rundown looking. As kids we were told that the house was empty & apparently it was haunted. We use to peer through the windows to see if we could see anything or look through the letterbox. The neighbour next door would chase us away. It turned out that an old gentleman lived in the house. After his wife died he locked himself away in the house & basically became a hermit.

2025-09-02 08:29:43 +0000 UTCYeah I understand why you're thinking the NEDS did the break in Mike, but I don't think it's them, it's just a break in, the show never implies it in later episodes or anything.

2025-09-02 08:06:19 +0000 UTCYou actually suit the flat-cap Mike!! Great episode, one of my faves. Sylvester McCoy (Archie) plays Radagast the Brown, the nature wizard in the Hobbit movies, btw! 😁🙌👌

2025-09-02 07:55:57 +0000 UTCI think this is my favourite episode of the whole run. A gorgeous script, which flits between comedy and pathos on a dime, and the acting skill to deliver on it. Don't worry about Archie. That flat is way bigger on the inside.

2025-09-02 07:37:40 +0000 UTCHell of a jump to blame the NEDS. Think it was a random break-in Mike. Love how Jess sheds a tear at the softer sections. Genuinely my perfect blend of comedy and drama. Some heavy moments in the later series of the original run that I think will make Mike cry.

2025-09-02 06:50:33 +0000 UTCI had one of those lens kits for the TV in the late 90s, could barely see it but it did work.
