The Office UK - S2E6 'The Interview'

Comments

For more "awkward and cringey", The League of Gentlemen.

Mark

Don't forget the david brent movie

adam marshall

Make sure you watch the outtakes/bloopers from The Office before moving on!!

Plum

American Office should have ended with Michael leaving, if not a little before.

David Guest

I'll never forget seeing this for the first time. It caught me and I'm sure many others off guard because you just didn't expect that level of raw emotion and I think that scene made people realise what an incredible actor Ricky Gervais is and that Brent was really a vulnerable man underneath it all. That said, when this episode was broadcast, there were complaints aimed at the BBC when the announcer introduced it by saying 'it's the end of an era' which caused people to guess the outcome.

ElvisLee

David Brent begging them not to make him redundant is one of my favourite British tv scenes.

Kayleigh

I like Extras better than the Office, too. Steve has a major part and you even get a cameo from Karl and lots of other celebrities that are hilarious.

Johnny Johnny

I live in slough and worked in recruitment offices just like this in the early 2000s. Office rules in smaller companies were alot more relaxed and you had good people working for good people. Around 2014 Big Corporate companies bought most of the smaller businesses and it lost its soul. It was then good people working for the machine and HR making the work and people robot-like. That was me done with office work, decided to work with mental health ever since. Less pay but No regrets

bdazzer85

I definitely agree that you guys would love Extras, it's just as good, maybe better, than the Office imo, and features some really memorable acting from Ricky which impresses me so much on every rewatch.

Yellow15

Love You Two. Peep Show is Awesome !!!

Simon Coward

Hey Emma. This week would kill us doing two movie reaction back to back. The one is difficult enough for us to fit in. If it didn't fall in the same week that we are already doing another movie I'd say yes. I just can't promise we'd be able to pull it off

RegenerationNationTV

Hi guys 👋🏼 I know you are watching the Christmas specials next, but I’m just wondering if you’re going to watch them separately one week part, or watch in one go? It’s all one connected thing really, labelled parts 1 and 2, so either would make sense. I do wish you’d do them together though, it would be like a movie reaction and I won’t have to wait another week for the finale 😀

Emma Edwards

End of series 1, where David's offered the promotion.

Russell Thomas

I honestly don't know what those people are doing. Is their attention span so tiny that they are unable to listen to them for a couple of minutes, or are they just skipping past the intros? I don't know, but it's incredibly annoying. They were doing it last episode as well, even though Mike and Jess made very clear what the schedule was going to be in the first 5 minutes.

Phil Robinson

Where's the scene when Gareth is told that David is leaving? And the subsequent scene where David is trying to console him? Did I miss something? It can't be later on, as he's already been told by Neil that he's going to be "caretaker" manager for a while? Very confused...

Phil Robinson

Jess calling you out mike telling you it was “roll the dice” not “marbles”you wierdo!! 🤣brilliant stuff!

Theloyalmuppet

Yeah I have seen this whole series and Peep Show a number of times but never put that together somehow. She’s so young!

SimonNZ

Brilliant episode again a think there was a long gap after this episode till the xmas episodes came out!

Theloyalmuppet

If they're into Ricky Gervais you have to watch it imo

Michael

Go check out the community tab. I messed it up.

RegenerationNationTV

What happened to the TV show poll?

Josh Read

Always nice to see Academy Award Winner Olivia Coleman pop up as a guest star

Robert McMillan

Great reaction! You guys should check out Fleabag

Matthew

Another funny David Brent video is him at Microsoft. It has lots of Steve merchant in it too. The bloopers for that video are very funny too! You've got to do the office bloopers too :D

Oliver Ramsay

Do (peep show) next

Ricky

Definitely forget it.

Johnathon Healey

Trust me. Extras is the next show you have to do. Ricky Gervais / Steve Merchant and a ton of Hollywood A listers. Even better than the Office imo

makadeni123

If only they answered this 100 times.

Tom H

Please don't forget 'David Brent: Life on the Road' !!

Colin

Are you going to do the Christmas special, it wraps things up perfectly

JakeyBoi98

you should check out. The Office Values - Microsoft UK Training with David Brent

L P

Misfits is a must

Jordan

I’m sure all of those will be considered. It’s going to be decided by polls as far as we’re aware. It’s really difficult to predict what 3000 people will vote for.

Julian

Hopefully Partridge is an option in the near future, but ‘I’m Alan Partridge’ is not the place to start. Hopefully they would do it in chronological order.

Julian

Brent mused

Chester

Peep Show or Im Alan Partridge next would be immense

Inter Malager

Quotes of the year: "I'm gonna roll the shit out of those marbles!"; "DICE, YOU WEIRDO!" LMAO... 🤣🥰

Matthew

Loved this tonight guys! You both always give such astute, thoughtful and articulate reactions. It’s absolutely what sets you apart from any other reactors I’ve seen. Ricky really is a great actor, that end scene always gets me. This man who knows nothing else, his mask slips and he has nowhere to hide the fact that he’s terrified and has to beg for his job in front of a tv audience. It’s heartbreaking. So looking forward to the specials, and I’ve never seen the Brent movie, so it’ll be first time for me too!!

Davee-man

You 2 'get' the office - love your reaction! From the comedy to the drama, my favourite show!

bobby g

It's my first time watching the office and I found some parts unbearable to watch, but I throughly enjoyed it. I thought Tim and Dawn would be together by the end of it though

Rayne

Really looking forward to ''David Brent: Life on the Road'' It is a super enjoyable finale. I would not even mind if you were to just skip the Office Christmas specials and went straight to David Brent: Life on the Road next week. Have a think about it.

D Andrew

Extras, derek, afterlife ( derek and afterlife will make you laugh hard but also cry often) then alan partridge and phoenix nights will be peak views for you trust me on that.. (maybe Father ted,IT crowd and peak show after that) will keep the views and subs high for sure..great reaction as always

Andy Gore

Loved it! :) you two are legends for doing the specials and the film as well, Someone else has said in a comment but Ricky Gervais's next project 'Extras' is absolute gold. The Office was just Ricky warming up in my opinion

Demceez

Ricky is a genius how he can turn too crying the way he does .. hope his ARFTER LIFE makes a pol one day 🙏

Dango247

Also in Peep Show. Which I think should be next ✌🏻

Jue H

Extras has to be on your list, so funny.

Richard

This. Al though I haven't seen it, I know the movie falls a bit into the stretching it too much -column. This (episode) also got me thinking of examples of American TV-shows where the show was concluded at a perfect time. I think The Wire comes into mind first.

Suixamoht

The REM quote is pure Brent. He'd more likely go British, but it works.

Andy

The Christmas specials are excellent. You won't be disappointed. Personally, I'd start with Extras after you do those 2.

Dannythedoodle

Mike love ya man and Jessica too. Don't forgot the UK Office Bloopers S1 and S2. These are essential. They are iconic here in Ireland and the UK.

Gerard McCartan

Me and you both :D

Andrè

You've got to do the extras

Brendan Brennan

👍✌️i personally think brent is awesome

TheHigh

The lady who interviewed Brent was Olivia Coleman. She went on to win an Oscar.

Karlos

THe Invention of Lying is a superb film, loved the whole premise of it

Bikeaholic

Guys you should really check out The Office Values at the end of this - it was a 40min pair of training videos Ricky and Steve wrote for Microsoft which got leaked. It's honestly some of the funniest Brent material and includes some great outtakes (speaking of which you should check out the outtakes from The Office itself too)! It'll be interesting to see what you make of Life on the Road as it's just Ricky writing and directing and it really shows to be honest. Don't get me wrong it has its moments but it is nowhere near this level of brilliance.

Schpleeb

Extras and Life’s too Short next please . Derek is unbelievable

Gary Hall

Extras is probably on par with The Office for me. Would really love to see Peep Show on this channel too though

Sam

You guys saved me with this

Michael Leighton's Karl Pilkington Animations

I was particularly looking forward to seeing your reactions when you found out where Dawn was going to in the States! Brilliant, thank you both! xxx

Carol

The Specials are just perfect...so hoping you guys will be covering...

Karl Devereux

Brilliant reaction guys, appreciate you rolling the marbles and taking a chance on this in the first place. Jess turning into Brent around 28:30 was wild

Daz Parker

Double Feature incoming?

NameJeff

to*

Russell Thomas

Don't forget Barry.

Jára Zimmerman

It's the BBC and they were both unknown at the time. They had no clue if it would be successful and they don't tend to sign 20 seasons like American studios. Ricky and Steve seem to write shows in a way where it could end where it was but it's easy to expand on

SomeBSName

Extras and Life's Too Short are both great. but the bloopers from The Office are hilarious if you can find the right video. Tim trying to keep a straight face talking to Ricky take so many takes.

Karlos

Ricky is actually a good actor, I’ve seen the office so many times and the scene where he is begging to keep his job makes me tear up. There are scenes in After life and Derek where he has me blubbering wreck lol

Carly

"Extras" with Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant.

Alan

Great reactions . Buzz off how much you both have enjoyed this!

Reece Brown

Mike and Jess, no we didn't know there'd be 2 specials. This episode was November 2002 then the 1st special was 26th December 2003 (Boxing Day for us), followed by part 2 the following night. The story picks up roughly in that time frame, things have certainly developed.

Fordy7169

No the they're doing the 2 specials and I think the Brent movie in the next 3 weeks. They literally said it at the beginning.

Fordy7169

That's sounds dreadful, LOL

Fordy7169

Bloopers and deleted scenes would be the preference over the movie. As far as I'm aware Ricky did the movie on his own and it feels like he forgot who Brent was. Natural thing to move onto next is Extras, it's the next project they both did and Steve is great in it. Extras is also a nice length.

SomeBSName

great reaction you should try a show called brassic

Rich

Now I know why Mike gets so wound up with comments. They literally said they're watching the film after the specials in the first minute of this video.

Adam

20:13 "I don't know if any show I ever watch again will equal this level of awkward and cringy moments" Alan Partridge: Hold my beer!

Captain Cardboard

I remember watching it live. The 'mockumentary' wasn't a well known thing and it felt really new and interesting. A lot of people didn't realise the first few episodes were fake. Back in the days when there were only a few TV channels and everybody watched the same stuff, it was the show people discussed at school/work. And nobody knew there would be an Xmas special. Are we doing the special as one or in two parts? I suggest doing it as one unless it makes more business sense the other way! It's written like a two-part movie rather than two extra episodes.

Mat

That bit with Brent at the end was heartbreaking, I teared up a bit 😢

Emma Edwards

Adam Theaker

We had a guy in our office that used to say “it’s like Christmas in July” all the time, so we started doing a day of Christmas in July in the office with Secret Santa and Christmas jumpers

Kieran B

They literally said in this video at the start and end it'll be next week? They all said the same last week? What is wrong with you people lmaooooooooo

Johnathon Healey

No chance, it's borderline insulting to the original Office - almost spoof levels of acting and writing.

Johnathon Healey

Such a great cast, and always lovely to see Olivia Colman popping up. I’d forgotten the calibre of the team they had in this programme

Jude

And now we switch the still game😍 switching between still game and the office is as close to the Lord of the rings and Harry Potter alternating in the cinemas we'll ever get again

Chrono_Punk

React too Derek

FatSam25

Mike knows it's not real, It's not real Mike, Mike knows it's not real, it's not real Mike, Mike knows it's not real. 'Ahem ..'Everybody hurts...sometimes..'' What a reaction.

emu cat

He is a good boss but he is up his own arse and shows his true colours later. Brent's office was performing well and the only reason he didn't get Neils Job is because he failed the medical. So I think Neil was a bit bitter about that. So this report gave him the excuse. I think he would have tried to find some reason to get rid. And I think it's that old British thing we don't like people punching down

yo mo

Peep show is as more-ish as crack

Erica

Courtney love in her smack era hairstyle . I’d have killed for that in the 90s 🤣. The hairstyle not the smack . I don’t know who Seth rogan is but you sounded more like Butthead 🤣

Erica

Oh my god, yes 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Stewart Hainey

That classic saying "roll the marbles baby"

Gsmith

FFS DAWN!! 😭

Emma Edwards

Just FYI, it’s also well worth read to got the outtakes from season 2. Guarantee they’ll have you laughing just as much as the episodes themselves

DG

Peep Show after the Specials? 🤞

PoPaDoMZz

David completely redeems himself in those final moments

Brad Johnson

It's funny that there's so many comments saying "watch the Christmas specials", dude, it's almost the first thing they say at the beginning of this video, and they also addressed it last week.

Adam

Sheila who said she 'likes blacks' was also keen to be Gareth's sidekick it the porn scandal, so there's at least 3 of the non-mains who are a bit quirky and not the straight-man, as it were. Keith, Sheila and Trudy upstairs and a few in the warehouse ..... and all of Gareth's crew.

emu cat

I'd you want cringe. The scene with Ricky Gervais and David Bowie in Extras is unbelievable.

Matt King

Olivia Coleman is a feckin legend

CONALL MCLAUGHLIN

But all the boomers do is fake exaggerate laugh and pause at inappropriate moments..

Russell Thomas

I’d completely forgotten Olivia Colman was in this, such an amazing actress (and Oscar winner now of course). When you get to Peep Show you’ll see much more of her

Kieran B

A total masterpiece, and the best episodes (the two part Christmas Special you'll be watching this week and next) haven't come yet. It wraps up perfectly. No spoilers. Maybe not what you are expecting. Life on the Road is a solo Ricky Gervais project, not part of The Office save the character of David Brent. It's also truly terrible in my view. I support your watching it so you can make up your own minds about it and there is one element of it I like which I'll elaborate on when we get to it, but overall it's shocking, especially when you see just how brilliant The Office finale is and how wonderful the show is overall. Quite the drop to the film. The Office wrapping in 2003 and the film not appearing until 2016 probably not a help, among many other factors. I would strongly recommend you watch Extras shortly after this, Ricky and Steve's second success, almost as good as The Office, and a lot more Steve, who you both clearly enjoy!

Ash Jeffries

The special should be watched as soon as possible after this... But this was supposed to be the actual end... It was basically popular demand that made them do the special

CONALL MCLAUGHLIN

Holy Moly, do you two have ANY idea how good you are?!! Brilliant reaction. No-one else on YT comes close (Boomer when he's with his other half maybe, just maybe).

Static CentreHalf

I love how provincial his thinking is while still speaking in ambitious terms, “Burfield” - Slough is about 24 miles from London for reference - of course that’s the joke but it’s a great bit of writing and performance

Kieran B

This episode was the first time I saw Gervais' true drama-talent in the end with begging for a last chance. Then comes the movie Invention of Lying - the scene with his dying mother. Wow, what a heartbreaking but brilliant performance in the way you would not have expected at all. He has shown such a broader spectrum of talent than just his comedic side (and of course his signature laughing so hard the speakers start crackling =D )

Christopher Bergren

Superb! After a rough day it’s always good to enjoy a classic comedy with the best and most incisive reactors. Hopefully you can watch Extras too eventually.

Kieran B

If i remember correctly when Series 2 of The Office aired that was the series finished & there would be no more as Stephen & Ricky said there wouldn’t be a 3rd series. Thankfully they changed their mind by doing the Christmas Specials

The Puzzler 99

Wait till you watch Peep Show for awkwardness and cringiest, I think that May outdo The Office in a lot of ways

Louise Miller

Mike and Jess, you’re gonna love the two Christmas specials and I hope you’ll like the film, “David Brent: Life on the road.” It gets a bad rap from some people but I thought it was a good continuation of “The Office,” and rounded out Brent’s character superbly. I liked “Extras,” (the first new series Ricky did after “The Office,” but I really loved “Derek,” and “AfterLife,” and with these last two I felt Ricky had really grown as both an actor and a writer. “Afterlife” has been the only series so far that Ricky has done 3 seasons of. All of his other series have been 2 seasons only. Mike, talking about Doctor Who, is that sort of thing (sci-fi) your cup of tea? There’s the classic series that ran from 1963-1989, but then they bought it back in 2005 as a soft reboot (with many nods to the classic series) and most reactors start watching it with the 2005 reboot. Is this something you and Jess might like to try one day?

Andrew Roberts

Not sure who's been telling you your take on Neil is wrong, it's not. He's a brilliant boss and absolutely right to have treated David the way he did.

Jeff C

“If it’s in you, I’ll find it” The mantra of ER doctors everywhere.

Julian

The acting in this is so good, I didn’t appreciate it enough before.

Julian

I would do Life On The Road. The only issue you might have is the music. 15 mainly original songs on the soundtrack might make it tricky for YouTube. The bloopers are worth it. There is an 8 minute version or an ‘ultimate’ 90min version which includes a diary of how they wrote it and made it. You also get to meet all the actors, which is cool. If you go for the shorter version, why not add the music videos of the theme song Handbags and Gladrags which you have both become attached to, one by Rod Stewart and a more recent version by The Stereophonics? It would be the perfect way to wrap the whole experience up.

Thomas

His looks to the camera in that music video are ace

James

I think it aired on BBC2 which was more of a documentary channel. I just think of a serious pensioner sitting down for a documentary and coming across this ahah

James

Always thought it was bogus that the Cooper & Webb people didn't have Olivia Coleman wait outside. They knew they were going in there to let David go. That awkwardness was all on them.

keeperofthegloom

Hear hear!

Static CentreHalf

They did, and he is. I didn't know either until someone mentioned it in the comments from a previous episode. But I can really see resemblance!

Static CentreHalf

Please double feature the specials. They are brillianttttttttttt

BoSquiddly

I literally get fatigued trying to get through US shows. It seems like their philosophy is "Just keep making them until they're sick of it" A well told story is way more effective than flogging a dead horse for eternity.

Russell Thomas

Did you say that the guy who stares at camera is Stephen Merchants dad?

James

Superb. You two are so fun to watch, and 'The Office' is brilliant. Btw, the actress playing the lady from 'Inside Paper's is Olivia Coleman. She, David Mitchell and Robert Webb are superb in 'Peep Show's , which ran on Channel 4 in the UK for nine seasons ! It's a bit sleazy at times, but with you having enjoyed 'The Inbetweeners' , I think it's very likely that you'll enjoy 'Peer Show' too. Also the videos of the bloopers and outtakes for 'The Office' (UK), and also for Ricky Gervais' work in general, are hilarious, especially the 'Derek' seasons.

South Coast Rich

I say this, with the highest authority, you guys are the best reaction channel out there. I love you both.

Jamie

You have to do the Christmas special, trust me, it’s absolutely one of the best things you’ll watch. It’s a two parter and just finishes it all off in a cool way.

DG

I completely agree with you Mike.. quality over quantity every time for me. Which is why I can literally only think of a handful of American series I've bothered to watch all the way through.. one of which was the US version of The Office, which I thought was consistently good right up to when Steve Carell left.

Dan G, Leicester

The Office was my favourite show when it first aired. There was nothing like it at the time. In fact, a lot of people thought it was an actual documentary series. There had been mockumentary type stuff at the time but nothing really like this. I was really sad when it ended. When they announced there would be two Christmas specials it made me so happy for weeks. I was worried they would ruin it with the specials but they ended it in the perfect way. You're in for a real treat. I would avoid Life On The Road. That's the thing that ruined the legacy of the series.

Joe Blakeley

You definitely need to watch David's music video " equality street" it's as cringe as you imagine

Gem Lou

And yes, this was the intended real ending of the show. The Dolly Parton quote and then nothing more. But then they felt they had some more things to tell, and therefore the chritsmas specials.

Hugo Lindmark

We thought it was the end. When The Christmas specials were announced there was a mini national celebration.

Wilx

You're in for a treat with the specials 👍

Andy McCann

I think you'll love the Christmas specials. Can't wait

Austin GT

Bloody Brilliant 👏

Andy McCann

I totally forget Extras even existed! Good shout

James

Have to get into Extras! it’s arguably better than The Office. so good.

Louis Ross

Brilliant episode. The real David. We didn’t know Xmas special was on its way!

Luke Dunford

It's not ended till you've done the Christmas Specials, that has to be watched, please say that's coming up next week, hopefully do both parts together

Steven Leicester

Best just do the special next week imo, especially with it fresh in your minds.

Lee

Nah I want it all now

Jamie

I don’t see Life on the road as an actual part of the real The Office-universe. First of all, it’s pretty bad, and Gervais kind of ruined part of the legacy with that one. And second, Stephen Merchant isn’t involved, which is clearly the main reason why it’s pretty bad. Gervais doesn’t have the story telling talent that Merchant got. With that being said: have loved your reaction to the show! And hoping for some blooper reaction, and that you some day will react to Extras, which also is amazing.

Hugo Lindmark

Take a little break between this and the Christmas special, makes it even sweeter. Wouldn’t bother with the movie personally…

Adam

Ricky Gervais is underrated as an actor when called for he's so good at being realistically emotional, when David's mask drops and he breaks down it's just so sad

Michael

Right let me just lock my girlfriend in the cupboard so I can watch this in peace 🤗

Josh Read

Awwww yeeeeahh!

Joe Michel

Superb!
