2025-06-27 15:46:11 +0000 UTCIt's not Game of Thrones if there's not some shady shit being thrown into the mix like poison at a wedding or other forms of murderous duplicity. Peter probably contacted Renly to pass on his plans to poison the king and his men. Would be the type of thing either he or Varys would do, but Varys wouldn't let any knowledge of it being him get out. Peter on the other hand is an arrogant moron. So chances are it'd be him. He's not nearly as smart as he thinks he is. Problem is everyone is just as stupid as he thinks they are and easily lead to their deaths. Jon Arryn really screwed things up when he likely pushed for Robert to let everyone stay in their positions when he took over. Which kept Pycelle and Varys. Then added in Peter on behalf of his ugly bitch of a wife.

Because even if they believed that Axel wasn't legitimized by Robert, that should have put Stannis next in line, not Renly. Their entire cause has been a transparently illegitimate power grab from the start, which is the kind of play that should not be ignored and brushed off when the dust settles. Robert was merciful to them once, and this is how they repay that mercy? Yeah, I think it's time for Tarly or Hightower to take a turn as Wardens of the South
