2025-05-11 07:14:02 +0000 UTCThe thing about the disgusting joke is that it’s told by the character version of himself within the joke. It’s about the absurdity of the situation. I think the joke would have worked if it had been less vulgar. It reminded me of ‘the aristocrats’ joke which goes way back when comedy was underground and vulgarity was not mainstream. Comedians would try to out-do each other by being more vulgar. I think it became an in-joke between comedians to underpin the idea that you can joke about anything. I don’t think Ricky nailed his joke but I can see what he was trying to do. Of course, whether people find it funny is another matter.

2025-01-28 12:18:57 +0000 UTCRational thought? Common Sense? - "Common Sense is a collection of prejudices acquired by the age of eighteen" - Albert Einstein. --- "I never made one of my discoveries through the process of rational thinking" - Albert Einstein ---- "The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honours the servant and has forgotten the gift." - Albert Einstein--- "All progress depends on the unreasonable man." - George Bernard Shaw Please define YOUR idea of Rational Thought and couple that with the number of Nobel prizes you have won and the number of inventions you have made that have moved humanity along.

2025-01-28 02:50:53 +0000 UTCRicky has quite a famous bit about jokes are just jokes and if you don't find them funny then they're not for you. Ironically it became more famous as James Corden - or rather his writing team - copied it and James said it on his Late, Late show or whatever it was. It's about seeing a sign for guitar lessons in the street and getting angry about it shouting "but I don't want guitar lessons!". Then it's not for you. But it's an interesting one because I fall into the band of pretty much everything is fair game, but it has to have some thought. If it's just to get a reaction it can get boring. And I agree with @Erica to some degree that if it's personal, that famous person can get abuse because it tells others it's okay to say this to them. Ricky has also said stuff about the trans community when discussing a joke's a joke. And James Acaster had a bit of a pop at him in one of his routines. Hey, they're opinions and these are funny people.

2025-01-27 18:02:11 +0000 UTCTo be fair many people outside of the UK would have first learnt of Ricky from his years hosting the Golden Globes where he personally rips in to many. The ones he can't legally get away with, he heavily hints at who it might be. Including paedophiles etc. And the TV version removes several. He does always say though, it's just a joke, life is short. But I agree, everyone has their line and not all comics are for everyone. Back in the day Jim Davidson and Roy Chubby Brown were massively popular, but it was often sexist or racist drivel. But arguably a sign of the times, it's not for me so I don't pay to see it. There are however many fans of theirs still today. Likewise I don't find Michael Macintyre funny, but for different reasons.

2025-01-27 17:55:52 +0000 UTCRicky spent so much time telling the audience they should be able to laugh at anything, that he actually forgot to be funny. Yes, I know it’s only a clip.

2025-01-27 17:39:08 +0000 UTCI’m commenting on everything now sorry. The thing with that joke, while it doesn’t really make me laugh, I appreciate that it’s mocking the paedophile, how revolting they are and the depths they stoop to. I did see Jimmy Carr live and I actually think he went way too far as he saw a young girl in the audience and asked her age , she was 16 and with her parents , he then directed sexual themed jokes directly at her and told her dad it was his fault for bringing here. Ricky won’t do something like that. Frankie Boyle also made a joke about a specific celebrity, Katie Price, who has a child (he’s an adult now)with severe learning difficulties and he made a joke about how her son is always trying to rape her. Again, this crosses the line, in my view because it’s directed at a specific person . That’s my thoughts anyway.
