American VS European Suburbs

The presenter sounds very biased and frankly insufferable in this, frequently presenting half-truths and neglecting to mention important things which could harm his argument. American suburbs aren't perfect, but I know I'd much rather be living in a large, detached house with land than in a smaller house with no off-street parking. People like this give us Europeans a bad name. Please don't feel you have no right to argue against points raised in such videos.

2025-01-15 19:20:27 +0000 UTCI grew up in a London suburb and looking back everything was near by and the transit system was fantastic, our local station had the option of the underground metro and overground where I could be in the City in around 20mins. I now live in the country, we have a bigger house on a third of an acre with huge drive but we lack the basic services. In our village we get one bus a week and I couldn't tell you what day or time as we've never bothered with it. There's always going to be trade offs but by next move hopefully will be Valencia in Spain as when I retire I'd like somewhere flat with good public transport and shops, hospital and all essential amenities near by.

2025-01-15 18:00:06 +0000 UTCBelieve me, people in Europe and the UK (I’ve lived in both) can moan like hell about how poor their road networks are. There is a major river crossing just outside the town where I live, and if wind the gets much over 40mph they shut the bridge down for several hours because of a fear for high-sided vehicles. When that happens (as it does maybe ten times a year) the entire network gets choked by gridlock for miles around. It also causes chaos at the major port just up the road, so I guess the consequences could even be felt on the other side of the English Channel with deliveries to France and beyond.
