York the shambles is a nice place to visit for harry potter fans. Yorkshire dales and peak district is a must to visit

A common mistake some American visitors make is to visit too many places on one visit. This is a small island by American standards but we, like all other European countries, are rammed full with history, most of which is well preserved. Another thing that can take visitors by surprise is the fact that we do have wide open spaces. This is even true in London where there are huge parks, including Richmond where 630 wild deer roam free. A common expression is that London ‘isn’t England’, meaning there is much more to see beyond the capital. While this is true, tourists make the mistake of trying to ‘do London in 48 hours’, and end up only seeing the well-known sites and missing out on some of the beautiful neighbourhoods with stunning or quirky architecture, great restaurants and brilliant boozers (pubs).

Obviously, so many great places to visit but it's disappointing not to see any northern English areas on the list. The Lake District is incredibly beautiful couldn't recommend it highly enough! Being biased as it's my home city Newcastle (and Northumberland more broadly) has so much to do. Loads a pubs and bars, sport, museums, beautiful coastline, an incredible natural park (Kielder) and, of course, the friendliest people.

Well done Jess. The titanic museums outer facade is exactly the same shape and height of the titanics bow

Stonehenge, Glastonbury, Devon and Cornwall and the west country in general is amazing. Wales and Snowdonia is rightly in the list. Rochester in Kent is great as it's all Dickensian and you have so much history in a small place. A Norman Castle is next to the historic cathedral. Bits of Roman wall, a 12th century crypt. I used to live there it's mega haunted as well! It's only 40 mins from London on the train https://youtu.be/bB4CBjPX_JQ?feature=shared

Wouldn’t be my top 10. My home county of Cornwall is beautiful, as is the Lake District, Yorkshire Dales and Moors, Norfolk Broads - too many to mention.

I knew someone would reply mentioning Cotswold stone 😉 I think it’s a beautiful area I was more cautioning against the typical view we get from Americans where you can only find that ‘typical English village’ in the Cotswolds

Great video but it barely scratches the surface of course. I agree with many of its recommendations including Edinburgh, Bath, Cardiff, London and Brighton. I'd add: York (possibly my favourite city in England. Just gorgeous. Liverpool - fascinating and friendly, tons to do, and the most Grade II listed buildings of any city in the UK outside London. As well as the Cotswolds, you have The Peak District The Lake District The Yorkshire Dales Cornwall (this area is a two week holiday all on its own and you'll want to return) As well as Snowdonia, in Wales you have: Pembrokeshire The Gower Peninsula The Brecon Beacons Scotland's countryside? Where to begin.... so much to see. The Isle of Skye is a good place to start. Not sure how long your first trip would be but you're right; each country is its own holiday, so I'd recommend focusing on one at a time. England alone might need at least two trips as it's the biggest, obvs! 😛 You'll have an amazing time when you do get over here! 🙏

I disagree. The Cotswolds is a unique area architecturally - you'll get very little Cotswold stone outside the Cotswolds. It's more chocolate-boxy than anywhere else in the UK and I think the countryside is pretty unique too. Many other beautiful rural areas in the UK, but all quite different to the Cotswolds. I also think only certain parts of the Cotswolds are super touristy. Bourton on the Water, Stow on the Wold, Bibury, all super busy, but it's a large area and there are lots of villages even more beautiful and relatively untrodden. Just takes a bit of research to avoid the coach parties and snap-happy crowds. 😎

A region not included on this list but a must to check out is Yorkshire. I think you’ll be blown away by how spectacular it is. An area unrivalled for natural beauty, historic coastlines, architecture and food. Known locally as “Gods own country”

James Hyde

Definitely check out York, and for a hidden gem Lincoln (and nearby Newark)

The Cotswolds is very tourist heavy, it is beautiful but not unique, it’s just relatively near London which is why it gets a bit more attention

Kieran B

We have double decker buses all over the country too. When I’m working in the office I usually get a double decker bus back - which is an 1 and 15 minute journey and mostly through the countryside
