2025-01-30 22:38:49 +0000 UTCI had to temporarily step back from patreon for a while over Xmas but knew I *had* to come back when I saw you'd discovered this. I knew you'd like this, being the honorary Brits that you are 😁

2025-01-18 18:53:35 +0000 UTCIn fairness he’s right that usually the proper upper class do wear (or use) old tatty stuff etc as they have no reason to impress anyone

2025-01-16 20:24:46 +0000 UTC‘Polly’ does one of the best English accents for an American (Connie Booth - as already mentioned the co-writer with John Cleese)

2025-01-13 03:32:44 +0000 UTCPossibly one of the greatest, most tightly written sit coms of all time. Even though it’s 50 years old it refuses to date.

2025-01-13 02:23:32 +0000 UTCAs a Londoner now living in Mill Valley, CA, I just wanted to say how much I enjoy your fantastic and wonderfully eclectic reaction choices. From The Inbetweeners to Fawlty Towers, and from Karl Pilkington to Bob Mortimer (Would I Lie to You?), your uploads are an absolute highlight of my Patreon week. Watching you react to the best of British comedy and hearing your insightful commentary keeps me connected to home, even while enjoying life on this side of the pond. Thank you for the joy you bring! FYI - I used to work with Robbie Williams and he is as brilliant as you think.

2025-01-13 01:03:20 +0000 UTCLoving your variety of shows, reading these comments I must admit I’d love you to react to fleabag I think you would love it. In saying that it’s not like you are going to stop doing reactions next week so take your time, I’ve seen reactors doing too many at once and they then lose track of where they are up to in the series even forgetting characters names etc. there’s plenty of time guys make a list of suggestions and do them when you like. Love your channel and you two as a couple dry Mike and jovial Jess 😂 perfect blend. So glad you are my first and only Patreon pick. Much love from 🇬🇧

2025-01-12 16:38:43 +0000 UTCYou have to check out Only Fools And Horses, and The Royle Family. 2 of the other greatest British sitcoms

2025-01-12 15:27:36 +0000 UTCYou try finding a reactor doing The Sleaford Mods or my personal favorite, Skunk Anansie! And don’t even get me started on Gong! I’ve been following reactors since the pandemic, and I’ve had to drop a few channels because they either think they’ve run out of things to react to and fade or end up becoming carbon copies of others, like King Boomer or Embrace the Suck. Then they wonder why their engagement isn’t growing! There’s a whole world of great shows out there beyond Peep Show, IT Crowd, or Father Ted. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not against reactors doing these classics, but at least mix in something unique that no one else is reacting to! For example, Mandy Cane Lane has done those big-name shows but has also reacted to gems like Taskmaster and Car Share. That said, I really prefer watching Mike and Jess’s reactions because they bring a unique dynamic as a couple. You’re absolutely right: reactors should enjoy the shows they’re watching, my point is there are loads of shows out there that are worth recommending.

2025-01-12 12:22:23 +0000 UTCOther than Monty Python the main thing John Cleese is known for in America is A Fish Called Wanda which he co-wrote and also starred in alongside fellow Python (and my personal hero) Michael Palin.

2025-01-12 12:12:49 +0000 UTCI think there is truth in what you say, Jason, while also enjoying Jess and Mike’s choice of Fawlty Towers, The Inbetweeners and The Office. It’s less of a problem for me because they are the only American reactors who I follow. I think your point is especially true with music. The so-called ‘classic rock’ bands (Floyd, Zeppelin, Queen, Dire Straits etc.) are the main focus when it comes to British content for reactions. Brit Pop, Punk and New Wave tend to get sidelined somewhat even though the artists tend to reflect British life in their music. Yes, there is personal bias in my comment, and while one likes what one likes, I am happy with Jess and Mike’s choices so long as they are enjoying themselves.

2025-01-12 11:20:41 +0000 UTCI'm really enjoying how you're diving into these reactions lately, great work! Just a friendly thought: with algorithms and a core audience that tends to favour a handful of popular shows, there’s a small risk of blending in with other reactors out there. I currently follow three, and they often react to the same shows. While that’s great for pulling in similar audiences, it could also be a bit limiting in the long run. There are so many brilliant shows out there that would really let you stand out and capture new viewers. For example: BBC’s Fleabag, BBC’s Cuckoo, Sky's Brassic, Channel 4's Home, or BBC’s Ghosts (the UK version—steer clear of the CBS remake!). You're already doing fantastic with your picks, so please don’t think I’m being critical—I love Fawlty Towers and The Inbetweeners. One thing to keep in mind: as Walt Disney (or maybe it was John Paul Getty) once said, "Observe the masses and do the opposite." That's always a great approach to stand out. Oh, and by the way—my wife is Spanish, and she adores Manuel from Fawlty Towers, even though the actor is British-German. ("Don't mention the war!"). You're doing great, keep it up!

2025-01-12 10:38:26 +0000 UTCJohn Cleese was part of Monty Python who you might have seen. I'd recommend clips from the Monty Python series such as 'The Architect Sketch' or 'The Argument Clinic' for a bit more Cleese. Jim Carrey cited Palin and Cleese of Python in particular as comedy heroes of his . If you ever do films Monty Python and the holy grail and Life of Brian are a must!

2025-01-12 10:31:44 +0000 UTCI’m not sure how popular Fawlty Towers was in the USA. I know more than one American TV channel attempted a remake and failed. I have American cousins in New England who loved it, but their mum (my dad’s sister) was English and vey funny in her own right, so they were exposed to our humour from an early age. Once again, it’s a case of us Brits loving to see our top TV characters as absolute losers (Basil, David Brent, Karl and the Inbetweeners).
Thomas
2025-01-12 09:59:23 +0000 UTCAbsolutely, same as 99% of all British comedies, especially before the Office and Royle Family.

2025-01-12 09:55:52 +0000 UTCYou guys are stepping up the reactions! You've chosen a really good mix of stuff too

2025-01-12 08:56:58 +0000 UTCJohn Cleese has popped up as a guest star on American sitcoms of the 80s and 90s a few times.

2025-01-12 08:34:56 +0000 UTCFawlty Towers was filmed before a live audience, so not a laugh track. The actors playing Basil (John Cleese) and Polly, the American waitress (Connie Booth) were married in real life. They also wrote the show. This was a fairly tame introduction, just so you get to know the characters. The show was a huge international success and sold to 17 countries. It initially flopped in Spain because they didn’t like the portrayal of Manuel as a dumb Spanish waiter, so they changed him into an Italian, and bingo! Fawlty Towers is much-loved and has been revived as a stage production in London’s West End.
