Jim Jefferies -- Gun Control (Part 1)

Comments

Firearm deaths in 2023: UK = 29 USA = 46,000 Which country has the more effective protection?

Alan

Feeling awkward about bringing up school shootings in a comedy bit is the exact point. Not taking any action over school shootings is pretty much the same as laughing at the future victims.

This video is probably one of the best reasons that people should visit other countries and cultures. I was genuinely shocked at Mike's reaction, although I am not judging you, but that's probably because guns have been normalised in the US. As someone else pointed out, in most other countries it is shocking that ANY of this is up for debate. 🤷🏻‍♀️

David Dunlop

I would say to Mike the reason it's a subject of comedy is because it is so unbelievable to people from other countries, his show FREEDUMB, sums up most people's reaction to US folk when they talk of freedom but never responsibility!

America was built on rich people not wanting to pay tax!!

No disrespect meant, Mike, but I wouldn’t base your view of a country on what UFC fighters say online during a pandemic. You had actually admitted that you didn’t know much about Australia or its politics. I know the media can be pretty messed up, particularly in the USA where it is so partisan, but it’s not hard to find fairly reliable sources. They are usually the ones that enrage both sides of the debate because they are prepared to do their job and hold people to account, no matter who they are. In the UK, the BBC gets flak from all sides. Their political editor is both despised by the Right and had to have security around her when she attended a Labour Party (the Left) conference after asking difficult questions. It’s the same with Sky News. They are far more balanced than Fox or CNN in the USA.

Thomas

I’m British but I have an American gun-owning cousin who spent a few years serving with the USAF in the UK. He admitted he felt nervous when he first arrived here with his family as they were living in the community, not the base, because he didn’t have a gun to protect his family. That thought soon vanished and he became very relaxed, and they even enrolled their children in the local state school rather than the one provided on the base. That all changed when he moved back to the USA a few years later. The kids were home schooled and he would never leave the house without his concealed weapon. Freedom?

Thomas

Consider reacting to his freedom video for some light hearted laffs. 😘

Part two is worth a watch.

So how do you think this affects your subscription going forward now that you got a kick around shitting on the people you pay for reaction content?

Same reason I've never seen a single school shooting in England

John

His LGBTQ bit is hilarious

You went to a dark place because you are the protector for the family , tge point about taking the guns away in Australia meant that the crazies can’t get guns . As for Australia , it began as a penal colony and the people their are either descended from criminals or prison guards etc . It is a quietly authoritarian country hence covid . It is also the largest supplier of coal to China , the inventors of covid . Also the population is 5% the size of the USA . So it was easier to get rid of the guns . Finally it’s an island , it doesn’t have any countries close by where illegal guns can cross any borders .

his routine of taking his disabled friend to a brothel is a good one as it is a true story

Please do, it would tie it up and I’m interested to know Mikes thoughts. Btw Bill Burr did a similar albeit much smaller segment about owning a gun which is really funny. It’s the bit about being a responsible gun owner where the gun is locked away but a maniac has burst into the house. I don’t think he copied Jim but the similarities are plain to see.

Rob G

I saw this routine many years ago and it was very funny to me but I completely understand Mikes reaction to the routine. Having people from other nations who don’t understand the culture around guns and the reasons for them mocking the US can be a bit jarring I’m sure. And he makes a good point around subjects like Covid and lockdowns and why governments shouldn’t be given too much power. On the other hand all those lock downs took place without a single shot being fired, people just obeyed even though a lot of people thought a line was being crossed. After watching a lot of Americans on YouTube who defend the right to bare arms I completely understand why they defend it and it does make a lot of sense. Problem is a lot of time has passed since that right was granted, when people had muskets that’s pretty much what the government had as well, there was a more equal balance of power back then. In modern times the anti gun people say that weapons have become much more advanced and why should people own assault rifles etc so we need more control. Whilst I understand that argument a lot of pro gun people disagree and the whole idea of having guns is to protect against tyranny. Which takes me back to the argument about balance of power. While it was muskets back in the day (simplifying things here) the amount of militarily power the government has now would crush any gun owner if indeed tyranny came into play. An AR15 can’t defeat an Abrams battle tank for example. The US has the most powerful military the world has ever seen and whilst a lot of gun owners imagine themselves being able to defend against a tyrannical US gov if that ever does happen is living in a dream land. Mike even said it in a previous video that if the gov come after you they will get you, even if you have a gun you are going to lose big time. That’s not an argument that guns should be given up, the right to bare arms is a constitutional right that isn’t going to change. Also you have to admit there is big money to be made in selling guns to citizens and while that big money is there the chance of any change is practically impossible. It’s a very nuanced topic I admit and I think most Americans would like to solve the problem because nobody wants kids being shot up in school etc. There is a lot that can be said on the matter and I’ve condensed as much as possible my thoughts on the subject so thanks for reading this far if you have lol Regarding Jim he has some great routines that don’t touch any political stuff and well worth watching imo. 🙂

Owning a gun for self defence is exactly the reason you have the crisis...

Not sure we'll do part 2. If we do it will be a Patreon exclusive. The video on YouTube was blocked globally and the rights holder is Netflix. I'm not too keen to go toe to toe with them.

It's part 1...
