One of my earliest memories was, as a five-year-old staying up late to watch The Beatles perform live of the BBC at the Royal Variety Show in London in November 1963, a few months before they first went to the USA and appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show. Beatlemania was huge in the UK even before America discovered them. Even as a little kid, I couldn’t escape it. My mum bought me a Beatles wig and a plastic Beatles guitar and my sister had enrolled in The Beatles fan club. For reference, a really good documentary about this era is The Beatles: Eight Days A Week - The Touring Years. It’s too long for the channel, but might interest you for private viewing. It captures the personalities of the four cheeky Scousers who conquered the world. Here is a link to a great trailer for the film. Jess will enjoy their hilarious reaction to a question by an American reporter … ‘what do you say to people who claim you are just a bunch of British Elvis Presleys?’ https://youtu.be/0fFyZzqPDws?si=bYghOW4u5kFwVYVY

As Jess points out, rock music really gave young girls an outlet for their emotions that music up to that time never could. It all kicked off with Elvis Prestley & those gyrating hips & the Beatles merely fed off that fever. I recall them landing at JFK Airport to be met by thousands of screaming girls, many of whom could barely handle their emotions over these 4 Brits. The Ed Sullivan Show was indeed their launch pad & I'm pretty sure he had them back performing again another time. An amazing era of music.
