Some Great Blade Arts
Added 2021-08-29 09:55:44 +0000 UTCFigured I'd share these so far and see if anyone has any ideas for some. I need a lot of Arts on record, not only for Sam to learn in the future but for the next Boss battle, as it's against a certain former Great Blader. As you can see, the theme of the Great Blade is big attacks that don't do anything super fancy, and many of them have a draw back or are straight forward to the point of being predictable.
-
Biding Blade
Stamina Cost - Chargeable
The user stores up stamina energy in their big, hulking sword for as long as they want. The longer the Art is charged, the bigger the damage, but also the greater the cost on its user's stamina.
Hype Strike
Stamina Cost - Low
The user shields themselves with their sword, and it absorbs the force of the attack. The next slash is powered up by a set amount.
Block Stance
Stamina Cost - Low
User focuses their mind and heightens their reflexes, making themselves enter a trance where they find their sword weighing less and where blocking their opponent's moves is easier. Useful in emergencies.
Power Cyclone
Stamina Cost - Medium
User stores energy in their sword, which then propels them in circles creating a whirlwind of massive power. Disorients after use.
Sweeping Cyclone
Stamina Cost - Low
A much more reckless version of Power Cyclone. Instead of standing still in one spot, the user spins around the area like crazy without regard for their allies. Situational, but easier to use. Disorients after use.
Flat Press
Stamina Cost - Medium
User jumps into the air, stands on top of their sword and smashes down with their foot creating a powerful downward attack with the broadside of the sword.
Thrust Buster
Stamina Cost - Medium
User points the tip at an enemy, pours energy into their sword and blasts it backwards, shooting themselves in a straight line like a rocket.
Iron Storm
Stamina Cost - High
A terrifying attack where the user unleashes a flurry of giant great blade strikes as if it were no big deal. Swinging so fast takes a heavy toll on the user's arms, but there are very few targets that can withstand such a devastating, rapid attack.
Breaker Force
Stamina Cost - Medium
A super powerful blunt strike that works especially well on any enemies who are shielded, have some sort of defense buff, or just have really thick skin. It renders the target's defenses void in most cases and makes them stunned.
Whirling Cleave
Stamina Cost - Medium
The user jumps into the air and flips at high speed, making them appear like a ball with a rotating blade poking out. Good for attacking bigger targets, as jumping toward them will land many cuts and give the user time to recover afterward.
Brave Blade
Stamina Cost - Low
Creates a low impact but high speed, high knockback projectile slash. Mostly air, but still inflicts damage. It's useful for putting pressure on the opponent.
Slamming Wave
Stamina Cost - High
A big finisher where the user slams their great blade from overhead into the ground. Rends the earth and sends a shockwave in a straight line.
Comments
Blade Drive. The GBlader throws the sword point first with a great effort the sword will impact it's target like a spear as well as creating a small shockwave around the impact point. Depending on the material it strikes it may have various side effects such as causing a mini earthquake in dirt for a couple of seconds, sparks from metal, stinging gravel/pebbles in stone, ect. Flesh that isn't bs magic overpowered monsters obviously turns into a gore fountain if the unfortunate recipient is weak or low hp enough because fuck you I like Doom. Comes with the obvious drawback of fighter no bladey but maybe you could mess around with advanced GBladers being able to summon the blade back off of a ricochet like system or just FFXV it for the top GBladers as a secret ultimate art or something. Give it a short to moderate charge up where the user has to channel a decent chunk of stamina. Elemental blades have amusing side effe... FIREBALL!

2021-09-07 02:12:41 +0000 UTCThat wouldn't be something that's considered an Art so much as just something most warriors can just do lol. They haven't learned it yet but the basics of Steel Soul will transfer over to increasing physical strength. Brawlers and Martial Arts classes have access to way more complex versions of what you're describing though, and those ones do things apart from just being a charged up punch or what have you so those ones actually are Arts. Besides, I'm looking for stuff relevant to the class and what you're describing doesn't make use of the sword and wouldn't be intrinsically tied to great blades. Let me know if you have any other ideas, though!

You could even combine it with Sam's power and have her invent a variation called Royal Strike utilising the blood rage thing to combo unarmed strikes or a hilt strike.

2021-08-30 06:09:46 +0000 UTCYou could do something like the move from monster hunter. Where they charge up a strike that is an over head swing and using the momentum of the first swing use their full body and follow through with a second swing. You could call it bicycle slash or something not sure if bicycle would work but it reminds me of bicycle kicks in soccer. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X2vr8M3lQ88&ab_channel=ArekkzGaming time stamp is 9:55 to 10:03. I would honestly recommend watching the moves for greatsword for inspiration since I think its roughly what your looking for big moves for big damage but they are slow and clunky
