Weekly devlog
Added 2021-08-20 07:38:23 +0000 UTCProgress:

- started writing Laurent’s route (word count shown above),
- writing the third part of the IF, where we also, coincidentally meet Laurent.
So, it seems it’s going to be Laurent’s month, but worry not, I’ll prepare some snippets with the other 2 to balance it out (suggestions as always welcome).
Another matter I wanted to mention is how I am going to be writing the IF or the sequel:
- The sequel, since it’s my first ever IF will be an experiment. To make the process easy, I’ll work in a ‘parts -> beta -> full chapter -> final beta -> edits -> public release’ system, to give myself enough time and insight to make the IF as good as I possibly can. Also, I was researching how other authors do it, and I think with indie IFs it’s more custom to publish the first few chapters as a demo, then the full thing, so that’s what I’ll do as well. Of course, that doesn’t concern you (seeing as I’ll post the early access here no matter what gets updated to Itch.io and when) but I just thought to mention it.
- The sequel (though it’s going to be a hybrid), it’s similar-ish to the VN, work-wise. I discovered that working in the ‘chapter-chapter’ form is taxing, so I might (I need to test it out) do it ‘route-route’ instead. So instead of splitting the chapters into 3-characters parts, you’ll get a full route with one RO, then the other, etc. I am not sure if it’ll fit here, to be honest, because I might go with the IF’s approach, and that’d mean making separate routes won’t be necessary. I’ll update you when I figure it out + I can always change the approach mid-working. What are your thoughts about it, though? I am super curious.
Last but not least, later today I am getting my third and hopefully last wisdom tooth extracted. They'll have to do it surgically so I might be MIA for up to a week. It shouldn’t be that long, but just in case I’ll queue Reed’s chapter to release this Monday.
I think that’s all from me today. Take care! <3

Personally? I agree. I don't mind waiting and prefer to, really, for the full thing. As a dev? I simply have no experience to say more than that I do find the partial/chapter releases taxing. But are partials more taxing than the full release? I'll have to try both first. I think it might be a different matter for dev teams, as they have a few people to work on different parts. I imagine the workflow is much easier than for a solo dev who does each of the tasks alone. I think I'll test it out on a smaller project, but I can't spare much time for a side one right now. Maybe once the demo is finished? I'll definitely try to find a solution that allows me to release content faster, even if just a tiny bit. Thanks for your insight, I really appreciate it!

2021-08-23 00:09:53 +0000 UTCI always enjoy when routes are released as full because then I get to enjoy it while waiting for another, as opposed to waiting for the entire thing to finish. I haven’t done any of my own IFs or VNs so I’m not sure if the workflow for that is more challenging, but from a reader perspective I don’t really like to read things in bits or even play demos (of course, I’ll do it, but I really prefer a finished or semi finished product).
