Chapter 1: Heroic Beginnings

Tokyo, Japan

Uzumaki Dojo

A blonde-haired teen is squaring off against a red-haired woman. They both were covered in sweat and breathing hard but their wills to continue overpowered their exhaustion.

"You have improved, dear, but you will have to do more than copying me to win," the redhead stated as she rushed towards her son with blinding speed and threw him over her shoulder.

The blonde teen right himself in mid air and landed on his feet, he then engaged in hand to hand combat with his mother, his moves perfectly mirroring hers.

"I told you, Naruto, that you will need to do more than copy me," Kushina exclaimed as she landed a devastating punch to the side of her son's face.

"Damn it, mom, did you have to hit me so hard?" Naruto complained, getting up from the dojo floor and holding his head.

"You bet I did, brat. If I didn't, you'd never learn the fact that, even if your Quirk mimics the physical abilities and skills of others, you have to get used to the fact that the power you copied is something they trained for all their lives. You also have to remember that your body is different from mine." Kushina replied, trying to explain some of her son's Quirk's weaknesses.

The redhead had always told her son he had to develop his own fighting style that suits his body. For instance, when he was copying her style, which she had developed, it is more suited for a woman to use because of their body type. Men would have trouble using it.

The problem was that her son instinctively used his opponent's skill when he used his Mimic Quirk, forgetting his own training, which put him at a disadvantage.

The redhead goal is to have her son copy his opponent's power and skills but he could add their skills to his own and get insights into their minds and fighting style.

Naruto expresses frustration about his Quirk, which makes it challenging to refrain from using the skills he copies.

Naruto deadpanned, "You know this could be child abuse," and his mom response was, "Eh, details!" as she got ready to fight.

The two Uzumaki sparred until Naruto was unable to move. His stamina had run out more from the damage he took than actual exhaustion, because with his Quirk, his mother's stamina should be added to his own. This means he misused his Quirk.

"Win again, brat. Better luck next time," Kushina said with her hands on her hips and a mocking smile on her face.

Naruto rolled his eyes and said, "Yeah, yeah," annoyed that his mother always had to remind him.

"Are you ready for the U.A. test?" Kushina asked after having fun messing with her son. "It's not going to be easy."

"Seriously, I doubt that after the torture you put me through, it's going to be a piece of cake," Naruto declared as he got to his feet.

An additional limitation of his Quirk is the cooldown period that follows its use. This is logical, considering that he absorbs the strength of those nearby and wields it as his own.

His extensive training is the reason his muscles don't rupture when he emulates the strength of some of the most formidable individuals.

"Don't get ahead of yourself, brat. Your Quirk makes you powerful, but you are not unstoppable," Kushina lectured. She did not want her son to get arrogant just because he had a useful Quirk.

The red-haired woman thought about her son's Quirk, which was named Mimic. It is an Enhancement-type Quirk that imitates the physical strengths and skills of those nearby. For example, her son can gain the strength of 10 normal men if they are near, along with their combat skills, which come instinctively to him.

The downside is the cool-down period, which can be anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes before it can be used again. Then, there is the fact that Naruto would instinctively use the skills he copied instead of those she taught him.

Kushina knew that ever since he was young, the blonde brat would want to be a hero, so she trained his body to withstand his Quirk. Now, only his own effort can take him to the next level.

Fast Forward

U.A. High School

Naruto looked at the front gate of U.A. He felt both excited and nervous. This was where his mother and father went and became heroes.

That's right, Kushina was once a hero called Madusa because her Quirk allows her to control her hair, which is hard as steel and able to extend and morph into different shapes.

She retired from hero work after she became pregnant with him. Her reason was simple: hero work was dangerous. It made no sense for both her and her husband, Minato, to put themselves in danger when they had a child to worry about.

Before Kushina retired, she managed to get the number 3 rank in heroes in Japan, and Minato was getting close to becoming the number 2 and one day the number 1, taking All Might's position. But then tragedy struck.

Minato was helping All Might fight a mysterious villain who had multiple quirks. They managed to win the fight, but both heroes were horribly injured.

Minato succumbed to his injuries to his family's horror and sadness, and All Might barely survived. To this day, the number one hero in Japan could only do hero work for a couple of hours a day. The only reason Naruto knew this was because he overheard his mother talk about it.

When Naruto was ten years old, he was just an ordinary kid. However, the trauma of his father's death triggered memories of his past life as a ninja.

From that day, he has been training using the memories of his past, along with his mother's instructions.

Kushina didn't know he was training himself in secret, but she was somewhat suspicious of his rapid growth in strength, which was thanks to the inhuman shinobi training regimen he put himself through.

Say what you want about ninjas from his past, but even the weakest genin was durable enough to fall off a ten-story building and come out of it with barely any injuries. They also had the strength and speed that would make world-class athletes green with envy.

"Here goes my first step in being a hero," Naruto said to himself as he walked into a large room where all the prospective students were located. The blonde did not have to wait long before the presenter spoke.

The blonde blocked out most of the sound during the hero's speech until he finally started to talk about the U.A. entrance exam. The first portion is a written test, and the next is a battle royal.

"It is just my luck that the first test is a written one," Naruto groaned in irritation. "This is giving me chunin exam vibes all over again."

"Ha ha ha, you are funny, blondie," said a female voice next to Naruto. The blonde turned to see a weird-looking girl around his age. She had pink skin and horns. "I don't like written tests either."

"Hello, my name is Naruto Uzumaki," the blonde introduced himself and shook the pink-haired girl's hand. "What is your name, pinky?"

Naruto teased the pink-haired girl back for calling his blonde. It seemed she liked his attitude, as the smile on her face widened.

"My name is Mina and I have a feeling that we are going to get along really well," the pink-skinned girl stated cheerfully.

Naruto didn't say it, but he had the same feeling. Mina had the same positive energy as he did, and she seemed to have a good sense of humor.

"Enough talking, it's time to begin the U.A. written exam," Present Mic's loud voice swept over the area, making everyone look in his direction as small robots handed out exam papers. "Here are the rules: there is no cheating, and when I say the test is over in one hour, stop writing."

Present Mic stopped to make sure everyone understood what he was saying. Some people looked nervous, like a certain green-haired teen, while others were emotionless, like a kid with red and white hair.

"Let the exam begin," Present Mic exclaimed enthusiastically, but he and the other U.A. teachers were making sure no one cheated.

Naruto looked at the exam paper in front of him and sweat dropped; the questions were not what he expected at all.

1. What is All Might's favorite costume?

2. How much can All Might lift?

3. What are Mirko the rabbit hero's three measurements?

"Who the hell came up with this test?" Naruto stated with a look of disbelief. He looked over to the green-haired kid with blank eyes, furious at writing down his answers.

Of course, the kid who worships heroes would find this test easy. Naruto thought, not like he didn't know the answers to some of the questions.

Naruto glanced over to Mina and saw that she was answering the question, then she would erase her answer before she wrote her answer down again.

The blonde found it cute the way her face looked when she tried to concentrate. Naruto looked to his own test and started to answer all the questions he knew.

Fast Forward

Naruto looked around the area for the practical test. It was a replica of a city. The blonde was impressed that U.A. had this level of technology to make something like this.

"Okay, listen up, everybody! I will explain how this test works," Present Mic exclaimed as he went over the rules of the exam.

Naruto listened as the sound base hero went over how to get points in the exam. There are robots that are ranked as low, medium, and high difficulty villains worth 1, 2, and 3 points respectively.

Then there is the arena trap, which is worth 0 points. Naruto thought this was fishy. The blonde was sure that there was a trick, but he could not figure out what.

"Since you know the rules, the exam starts now. Go," Present Mic shouted with a mischievous smile.

Naruto didn't need to be told twice as he and the others shot off to find as many of the robots as possible to get enough points to get into U.A.

The blonde with his Quirk activated was running at inhuman speeds. He briefly looked back to see the green-haired kid still at the starting line and shook his head.

Fast Forward

Five minutes have passed since the exam started, and Naruto has accumulated about 30 villain points by defeating several robot villains.

Now he was starting to feel tired from overusing his Quirk. Usually, he would use it on just his mother when they trained, but here he had to mimic several people at once.

It took its toll on his body and mind, but Naruto knew that to pass the exam, he had to get more points. With the determination he was known for, he pushed through and broke his limits.

"Help someone, please help me," Naruto heard a female voice call out, and without hesitation, he started to run in the direction of the voice.

Naruto ran until he came upon a scene of two girls surrounded by six 3-point robots, each ready to blast the girls to pieces.

One girl with blonde hair and horns was barely conscious and bleeding from the head, and the other girl had black hair and cerulean eyes. She was the one who cried for help.

Naruto noted that there were four destroyed three-point robot villains, meaning the girls put up a good fight but were overwhelmed by numbers.

Naruto, without thinking, jumped at the first three-point villain robot closest to him. He had used his Quirk to mimic the strength of the two girls, as it did not have anyone else in the range of his Mimic power.

The blonde used his secret weapon, two kunais, to combat. He had made them to blend with his Shinobi techniques. He aimed for the weak points of the robot, its neck and eyes, and it fell to the ground, shut down.

The five other three-point robots turned to Naruto, seeing him as the bigger threat. Something he was thankful for, now it would give the girls time to run away.

"Come and get me," Naruto shouted as he charged at the robot, dodging their attacks using his training and past memories as his guide.

The blonde was able to just slip between two villain robots, and they attacked him, but he jumped out of the way at the last moment, and their laser blasts hit each other, causing an explosion.

"Two down, three to go," Naruto said to himself, his eyes trained on the three robots coming at him in a triangle formation. They were trying to attack him from all sides.

"That's not a bad move, you buckets of scrap metal, but I will not lose to the likes of you," Naruto declared as a plan started to form in his head, his eyes looking to the destroyed pieces of the robot at his feet.

The robots attacked the blonde with their lasers from all sides. Naruto moved fast and picked up the two arms of a destructive villain robot and threw them in the path of two of the blasts, then ducked under the third.

The arms took the blast but were reduced into smaller pieces. Naruto used this opportunity to throw a kunai at the robot, who dodged the laser.

The kunai was aimed at the robot's eye, and it hit through it, going into the robot's head. The robot fell to the ground, deactivated.

With one kunai and at the end of his rope, Naruto stood defiantly in front of the two remaining three-point robots. He felt like he was going to pass out at any moment from overusing his Quirk to boost his strength, but he willed himself to move.

Naruto was thankful that the two girls he was mimicking were not extremely skilled at their skills, or his own might have been overshadowed, and the fight might have been more difficult.

The blonde was out of ideas and didn't see a way to win, but all of a sudden, what looked like horns pierced through the two last robots. Naruto looked over to the two girls and saw the blonde girl awake, with her hands extended, controlling the horns.

"Hey, are you okay? You don't look so good," the black-haired girl asked. She looked at Naruto with worry.

Naruto didn't answer because his vision started to darken and he lost consciousness. His last sight was the two girls he saved rushing to his side. He was happy they were safe.
