Chapter 37 : Mephisto vs. Raziel
Khaos Brigade Base
Mephisto casted fire and wind spells at the fallen angel-vampire hybrid to try to temporarily halt his advance, but Raziel ran right through the spells, not caring if they damaged him because of his super regeneration.
Raziel used his sword to slash Mephisto twice, but the thing he cut was a clay clone made as a distraction. As the real devil created a massive amount of dark magic in his palms, he launched it before the fallen could get out of the way.
"This might be harder than I thought, " Mephisto stated as he watched Raziel's body be atomized by his spell, which was a crude copy of the power of destruction he created.
The ancient devil created the magic by watching the Bael clan use their clan power; he modeled it as closely as he could to the original, but it was not as powerful.
"Atomic Magic, a power spell I've created, would surely attract a massive bounty from the Baek clan if they knew about it. " Mephisto said to himself with a mischievous look as he observed Raziel. "The magic has potential, but someone like me could bring it out."
Mephisto knew that magic was tied to the user's will and, to an extent, their personality; so, someone like him who loves to research and create destructive magic on that level cannot shine when used by him.
"You son of a bitch, you almost killed me back there, " Raziel cursed, with a hate-filled glare, he had seen how dangerous the attack was and he used his ability to manipulate his blood and launch one of his fingers away just in case, so he could regenerate from it if the main body was destroyed.
"My apologies, I didn't mean to almost kill you but fully do it, " Mephisto replied with a fake look of how sorry he was on his face.
While talking, Mephisto was studying Raziel, so on top of his fallen angel powers, he also had vampire powers, like blood manipulation.
The ancient devil had of course seen how Raziel had survived his magic. The fallen angel had detached one of his fingers, like a lizard detaches its tail, and he regenerated from it.
"So do you plan to fight me in the buff? " Mephisto asked curiously. He didn't care one way or the other, but he wanted to irritate the fallen.
"I am going to cut out your tongue and feed it back to you, " Raziel responded in a dark tone as he conjured back his usual clothes with magic.
Mephisto didn't look intimidated at all; he just adjusted his tie (he was wearing a red suit) and sent out a barrage of lightning spells after the hybrid.
"Your tongue is sharp but your skills don't match," Mephisto stated as he watched the hybrid dodge his attack with relative ease.
"I will not stand for this insult," Raziel roared in fury at being underestimated, "I will show you my true power."
The ancient devil knew that this was not going to be easy, even with how he was acting towards the hybrid. Mephisto used his earlier attack to gauge Raziel's power, and he was impressed.
The hybrid is physically strong, fast, and has a high amount of magic, not to mention his insane regeneration ability. That's not even taking into account his light and vampire powers.
Mephisto had to create multiple magical barriers to protect himself from balls of light that exploded on contact with the ancient devil's defective magic.
"I will cut you to pieces," Raziel threatened, Mephisto's form was hidden by the dust cloud created by the explosion. "Come out; I know you are still alive."
"Well, you just ruined the dramatic re-entrance to the battle I had planned," Mephisto said with a mischievous grin as the dust settled. He stood unscathed, having conjured a shimmering magic barrier in the shape of a sphere around himself.
The Hybrid glared in irritation but quickly regained his composure. With a surge of confidence, he fashioned a spear of intense red light, a stark contrast to the usual white or gold weapons wielded by angels and fallen beings.
Mephisto knew this ability of the hybrid; it was a power that taps into Raziel's unlimited hunger as a vampire and his angelic nature.
This is Crimson-Light, an ability the hybrid has that has the potential to negate or devour all magical attacks and physical attacks too.
With a fierce roar, Raziel unleashed his attack on Mephisto's magic barrier the moment he struck it, draining the barrier’s power and supercharging his crimson spear even more.
BOOOOMMM
The magic attack soared past Mephisto and struck the ground, unleashing a massive explosion. Despite not being directly hit, the shockwaves sent the devil flying with impressive force.
"Tsk, so you managed to survive," Raziel spat, irritation lacing his voice as he watched his despised enemy regain their footing and unleash a flurry of magical spells his way.
The hybrid charged forward, uncaring of the damage the spells had done to his body, because he would instantly regenerate.
"You know, you’re tougher to get rid of than a cockroach," Mephisto teased playfully, a smirk on his face. "And I have to admit, there's something oddly charming about your little insect vibe!"
Raziel refused to let the devil get under his skin! With fury coursing through him, the hybrid unleashed his red light spear in a relentless assault on Mephisto. The pathetic devil fumbled with his smaller defensive magic circles, but it was useless! Each failed attempt to block only fueled Raziel's wrath, as his light absorbed Mephisto's magic and grew even stronger with every strike!
The battle swung wildly in Raziel's favor as the hybrid relentlessly pressed his advantage, refusing to let the devil catch a single breath. The abomination kept up his furious assault until, with a seething determination, he finally landed a brutal hit, slashing Mephisto across the chest.
Mephisto released a blast of his atomic magic point-blank to force Raziel back. It worked, and with his hands clutching his chest, the ancient devil knew the crimson light had infected him. So, with no choice, he unleashed a magic bullet at his own injured chest to remove the light magic influence.
"Look at you now, vermin! You mocked me earlier, now you're at my mercy, fool!" Raziel said smugly, his eyes having a satisfied gleam in them.
The Hybrid's smug expression soon turned to a deep frown as he saw Mephisto healing himself with magic. Raziel charged at the devil intending to cut his head off, but as soon as he got in range, magical circles appeared on the ground and in the air around him.
"That was a close call," Mephisto said to himself as he examined his fully healed body. "If I hadn't set up those magic land mines before healing myself, I would be toast."
"Enough with your trick, devil! I grow tired of them." Raziel shouted in frustration. His appearance began to turn more demonic, looking more like a bat, and his body grew, making him over ten feet tall with clawed hands.
Mephisto could feel the shift in hybrid power; it was not stronger per se but it had a more sinister feeling to it now.
"Then allow me to show you what I have learned over my long life, abomination," Mephisto declared in a serious voice. He had a feeling that if he didn't give the fight his all, he might die. After living so long, he knew that his instincts were never wrong.
Like a unheard bell that has been rung, Raziel created hundreds of crimson light spears all aimed at Mephisto while the ancient devil summoned magic circles from several different religions like Norse, Hindu, Olympian, and Black magic.
BAM BOOOM BAAAM BAAM
The base of Khaos Brigade was filled with the deafening sounds of various magics colliding with tainted light.
This continued for over a minute before there was silence, and once again Mephisto was injured but this time a light spear had managed to almost cut one of his arms off, not to mention the cuts all over his body that were infected by the holy light.
"Hahaha look at you now," Raziel said while laughing at the devil's state, "I haven't even given it my all and you are already half dead."
"You are right," Mephisto confessed, making Raziel go silent. "As I am now, I can't defeat you with magic alone."
After Mephisto said this, warning bells started to go off in Raziel's head. It was as if his instincts were telling him to either kill the devil in front of him now or flee.
This made no sense to the hybrid; the devil before him was half-dead, but even if he healed himself, his magic was useless against him, so there was nothing to worry about, right?
Then why does he feel something he has not felt in hundreds of years? The fear of death, but that was impossible. He was immortal thanks to the curse of Cain.
"I guess there's no helping it then," Mephisto stated to himself aloud with a sigh. He did the smart thing and teleported out of Raziel's immediate reach and attacked himself to get rid of the light taint before applying healing magic. "I will have to use that."
Raziel rushed at the devil, he didn't know what Mephisto was planning but his senses were going haywire, spears of red light launched at the ancient devil with the hybrid bringing his sword up to cut his foe in half.
Mephisto, once fully healed, decided to use his original power. It annoyed the devil that he had to because he had worked so hard to become a master magician. But cursing his luck for having to fight someone with a power that counters magic.
"Die you shitty devil," Raziel roared, his light spears collided with Mephisto and kicked up a dust cloud. The hybrid followed up his magic attack with a weapon of his blade; he didn't want to give the devil a chance to heal.
"What," Raziel exclaimed as he tried to pull his sword back but could not, as the dust cleared a figure appeared, it was Mephisto but changed.
"I hope you didn't think you could win this easily," Mephisto said with a furious growl. "The real fight begins now."
