Spitballing Comic Stuff + Important Poll! [CLOSED]
Added 2016-07-04 11:47:46 +0000 UTCDisclaimer:
If you enjoy the comics I've produced in the past, it would be in your best interest to read through this and vote in the poll.
Now that that's out of the way, there's an idea I've recently been thinking about doing, and I wanted to run it by all of you to see if it's something you'd enjoy/support!
So, I know plenty of people enjoy the comics I do and would love to see more of them (myself included), but making something even as bare bones as the "oVOREwatch" comic I did recently takes quite a bit of time out of my schedule, and that's just not often something I can justify doing very often. Both because of the time commitment, and the fact that my Patreon has yet to actually reach the next stretch goal which essentially amounts to "regular comic production." Basically, I don't really make enough from my Patreon right now to justify dedicating the amount of time it would take to regularly produce comics, and I think it's unfortunate that I can't do that kind of thing more often (Slightly Related: My yearly Patreon update is coming up relatively soon, so hopefully we can start seeing some growth in the back half of the year once I do that (more on that later)).
Also, to address the obvious "solution" some of you may bring up in the comments, specifically, just selling the comics I produce; after doing some research, selling my comics on an online store isn't something I really want to do for a few reasons, the primary two being that A. Adult comics generally just don't sell amazingly well online, and B. I am not a huge fan of making my content exclusive for only people who pay. I consider the way I run my Patreon pretty lax and low barrier to entry, and I'd love to keep things that way.
So, getting down to it, the solution I'm considering is simple: just starting another Patreon exclusively for the production of comic pages. It would work differently from this one, as it'd be on a per-update model rather than a per-month model. Specifically I'm thinking it'd be on a per-page basis rather than a per-complete-comic basis, because sometimes my comics are 1 page and sometimes they're 4 (or who knows, maybe even longer in the future), so this would keep things simpler. I'd also limit it so I'd only post up-to four pages per month (max.) so that people can budget appropriately. This system would also work if I, for whatever reason, have a particularly busy month and don't have time to do comics, you guys lose nothing since I just wouldn't post anything over there.
I think that pretty much covers it, the poll I have for you guys is pretty straightforward: Would you be interested in supporting something like that or not? I'm going to offer several choices, but if you don't see one that reflects how you feel, don't hesitate to comment below.
[poll closed]
Thanks so much for your support, and I look forward to seeing the results!

To address each of your points: -As I've mentioned elsewhere in the comments, I would keep thing pretty simple in regards to pledge tiers, just a $1 tier for early access to the work and a slightly higher one for the high-res pages. -I have a document where I write down all my comic ideas, one that I for sure would like to do if I did go down this route is a Starcross origin story. -The release schedule would probably be very lax, just kind of a "whenever I have the time" type thing, perhaps one of the funding goals could be a regular release schedule though. -As far as exclusivity, this is something I want to steer clear of, I like my content being available to everyone eventually. I'm not opposed to allowing Patrons to see things first though obviously. Glad to hear that you're interested, hope this helps clear things up a bit.

2016-07-04 14:56:08 +0000 UTCYeah, that's the only problem I see currently at the time.

2016-07-04 12:29:22 +0000 UTCI do appreciate the point you brought up about how exclusivity could cause issues between my two Patreon accounts. Not sure what the solution to that issue would be currently, but it's a good thing to keep in mind.

2016-07-04 12:23:49 +0000 UTCAnd that moment when I read the other comments after posting to see what you said about the pledge tiers in another comment xP

2016-07-04 12:22:44 +0000 UTCAs I mentioned in another comment, I'd like to keep the tiers pretty simple, just a $1 one for people who want early access to the comics, and a slightly higher amount (not sure how much ATM) to get high-res versions of all the pages.

2016-07-04 12:22:21 +0000 UTCOkay, so would there be any perks to pledging to said comic patreon other than supporting the creation of you making comics? Just to make it clear an all. Since it is a nice idea an all, but still is tricky none the less. Some people may pledge while others may not. I would love to pledge personally, but don'y know at this moment. Since one thing to consider is if there will be any perks to pledging. Since with most pledges, they give out rewards such as yours for a pin up or so. Still, I say give it some more thought and see what people may think, since it is an idea to have 2 separate patreons for different things. Although, if comics would be for those who pledge only on there till made public, then there can be some conflict between the 2 patreon pages ya know? Same to vice versa where content on this patreon would be unseeable to those pledging on the comic patreon, unless they pledge to both. So in a way, the idea is both good & bad. Hope that helps some in making your decision

2016-07-04 12:13:50 +0000 UTCWell I think it might depend on the content (the universe, if I'm familiar with the characters). But even If I didn't say a true "yes", there are very high chances that I will help you guys to support this project, you're one of my fav' artist here (I think you're my highest tier among the artist I'm currently supporting). So the maybe = 90 % of yes.

2016-07-04 12:11:54 +0000 UTCSounds fair to me then!

2016-07-04 12:07:39 +0000 UTCIt'd probably be a very simplified $1 for access to sketches and early posts, and then a tier for high-res copies of the pages, and that's it.

2016-07-04 12:06:07 +0000 UTCSame, about that, any idea of how it would work (it is maybe to early for such a question ^^), I mean will there be "tier" like on your patreon page? Interesting idea anyway!
