The future: NEW GAME!

I've mentioned it before, but here's the official announcement ~

up next, I'll be working on Whim. a brand new fantasy RPG sandbox using the highly customizable models from my character template.

goals are for something that's comfy, with a stronger sense of personal story, over a more traditional narrative. inspirations for the setting include the elder scrolls series, CoC, fable and kona suba. with gameplay drawing from D&D, as well as turn-based RPGs, management/trainer sims, plus a little borrowed design philosophy from the mobile market.

whim is aimed at anyone like me who's spent hours upon hours bringing a character to life inside their virtual world. this isnt just something I've been wanting to make .. it's a game I've been wanting to play!

write-ups about the story and mechanics coming as the weeks go on. in the meantime, I'm working on getting my old character sheets updated and working again :)

rude.. but you are perfectly welcome to be wary I'll assume you're referring to the pre-patreon days of my very first game, the splatformer. I know I've talked about this before, but the biggest issue back then was implementation. for example - an action/platformer map would take me months to make, only for the players to blow through it in a minute, at best. that was overkill and in the end nobody really cared that much that the maps were hand-made (not to mention flash chugging along under all the rendering weight) ever since I'd noticed the development creep, I've been trying to think of ways to boil down experiences into simpler, mechanical systems. take exploring, for example. you can hold right and move through a dense, well-drawn (gorgeous, even) map... but still, nobody would really care that much. the world would seems small as you walk from one end of it to the other. the solution? taking a leaf from text-rpgs. design a simplistic board with the set-dressing to feel good and give that sense of moving through a vast land with big rolling hills. then, you throw in little random chance to mix things up and keeping everything fresh. ..anyway. I'll be posting prototypes as time goes on, so everyone can decide if I'm worthy of their spare change each month. ~ see you there :)

Given your history with actual game development you can see this will crash and burn from light-years away.
