My First Time Hearing... Radiohead - Kid A - Uncut Reaction

What better way to start 2025 than with this? I mean, it kinda broke my mind and had me contemplating the structure of reality itself, but I wouldn't want it any other way.

Thank you to everyone who has joined up since the Radiohead reaction started, and of course eternal thanks to everyone who's been part of this community for time.

Hope you enjoy this one

Jon

You should react to in rainbows from the basement and see them play live. It’s copyright free so you can even put it on YouTube without edits and they won’t take it down. That’s bound to drive some good engagement!

The singer Thom Yorke has said in the past he considers How to disappear completely his best work and I might have to agree. Fun fact, The “I’m not here, this isn’t happening” was a mantra Michael Stipe recommended to Thom when dealing with anxiety attacks during their never ending touring for ok computer. There is an old rolling stone interview about it. Anyway, loving these reactions!

this album came to me right when covid started and i remember being so entranced in this album, which led me to one of the artists that radiohead was inspired by which is aphex twin, such a cool and interested ambient music artist, listen to richard D james album !!

Sloppysandra

Patiently waiting for the moon shaped pool reaction!

Rogan

i can’t really listen to how to disappear completely anymore because i heavily listened to it during the most intense and suicidal point in my life. one of the best songs ever made on one of the best albums

AJ

Still can't listen to motion picture soundtrack all the way through... too much dark history wrapped up in those harps. Thought I could manage it with your reaction and to listen with someone else but it's all too raw. Thank you for providing us this reaction. Can't wait for the next one

Chris Pollard

huge fan of this

Additionally, I've really enjoyed the approach you've brought to this one and In Rainbows in that you've added really quite valuable interpretations that I've never considered before despite having both albums what must've been 50+ times.

Hey Jon - think others have mentioned it but Amnesiac would be a great logical next step. Think listening to Kid A is a prerequisite for Amnesiac as the latter offers the same type of music but a touch more experimental - feels like a more dense listen but has become such a personally rewarding album to revisit.

Finley Solomon

How to Disappear Completely is their masterpiece in my opinion. One of the most beautiful and haunting pieces of music ever

Kid B

So glad you connected with How To Disappear Completely. There is a great, quick video on YT about the story behind that song if you’d like anymore insight into it. Fucking love that song.

CJ Bingman

You’ve got to do the full discography because these are some of my favorites from you

Noah Newcomb

Completely agree. You really should listen to them as if they were a double LP. Hail to the thief is incredible! One of my favorites as well.

Brendan Watson

I look forward to a moon shaped pool. It is another great one that will undoubtedly move you.

Andrew Brunton

Amnesiac is very underrated for sure. It's beautiful and interesting. I do think they should have released it as a double album with Kid A bc it suffered releasing in Kid A's shadow, especially since thematically, lyrically etc it doesn't stand alone at all.

Noah Kahan

Will you be doing a reaction to Magdalena bay's first album?

Dillon

Amnesiac is so good, might just be me but it seems underrated in their catalogue, rarely see it come up...and to your point, the visualisers in Spotify for Amnesiac are a blend of its cover and Kid A's basically switching back and forth.

Sam B

TLDR: IF TAKING ONE THING FROM THE LONGER MESSAGE BELOW IT IS THAT KID A AND AMNESIAC ARE REALLY A DOUBLE ALBUM AND YOU SHOULD DO AMNESIAC NEXT My favorite radiohead album is Hail to the Thief. I can't wait for you to listen to it!! Though, you should directly follow Kid A with Amnesiac. They are basically conceived as a double album but split into two because they felt it was too dense for one album. Separately, it was actually made exasperating on purpose. After OK Computer blew up Radiohead didn't like that it catapulted them to fame, and made something obtuse and exasperating bc they wanted to lose fans. Unfortunately, it was still a masterpiece, so it didn't work the way they hoped.

Noah Kahan

Kid A title track did not hit at first but now for me it's the most underrated. It has a very slick groove and I love the atmosphere on it

Such an outstanding album. I can’t wait to see more reactions to Radiohead.
