ngl some of the lines about sex damp things for me a bit, but still excited for the live show in Denver tomorrow. My favorite songs off of this album were thought I was dead, like him, darling i, and the opening track. Like him is particularly powerful because I never met my birth father either, so when they keep repeating the question "So do I look like him?", I'm wondering the same thing.

2024-10-30 05:56:45 +0000 UTCFirst cool to see a live stream reaction here, that's a great evolution of the project. Looking forward to more, hopefully they get less chaotic as they go. Personally I don't get much from this album as a whole so far. And I've really messed with just about everything from Tyler over the years. Sure it sounds awfully good at most any given moment as the production and soundscape abilities from the Tyler camp are just honed to perfection. But it absolutely drags through the middle, to be honest, like someone doing CMIYGL-type beats as background music for a drama series. As an overall album it just doesn't hit like CMIYGL, Igor, or Flower Boy; it seems to just meander in a land of confusion and uncertainty, indulgence, and a bit of horny outburst. All Tyler staples but its too strong a dose perhaps. On top of it, the best moments that really hit hard musically or emotionally, are bookended by some real meandering and/or annoying moments. So where every song has some nuggets of gold strewn in there, you've gotta pan for them. I'm expecting a lot of positive reviews and I'm hoping another listen or two will unlock whatever thruline I may be missing, but ultimately if anyone is talking AOTY with this project: rubbish. But even claims of Tyler's best? Well, in a lot of ways he's perfected his signature sounds and his story telling, so I can appreciate it being considered up there for those reasons. But I think it's a strong B tier.
