I truly believe that Negan has changed — and here’s why.
After escaping prison, he didn’t run or hide — he voluntarily returned and risked his life to save Judith during a snowstorm. That wasn’t something he had to do, and it wasn’t for personal gain. It was a genuine act of care, showing a side of him we hadn't seen before.
His relationship with Lydia also speaks volumes. He defended her when the others wanted revenge, protected her from harm, and supported her emotionally after the loss of her mother. He didn’t exploit her vulnerability — instead, he became a rare source of stability in her life. Through Lydia, Negan began to learn empathy and personal responsibility.
With Maggie, he shows a humility that would’ve been unthinkable in earlier seasons. He listens without deflecting or mocking, accepts her hatred, and even acknowledges the full weight of his past actions. He doesn’t ask for forgiveness — he simply faces the consequences.
He now works with the group, not against it. He follows plans, shows restraint, and fights for others — not to dominate, but to protect. Even when he has the chance to use violence the way he once did, he chooses not to. That shift in behavior — from fear-driven leadership to moral accountability — shows a real transformation.
There’s still a part of the old Negan in him, but his actions now come from a different place. It’s not just about surviving — it’s about becoming someone better. And that, to me, is what real change looks like.
