I just finished splitting up the facial parts I had previously sketched out as simple pixel art and implementing them into the game.
I didn’t even get around to touching the makeup layer, but the process still ended up taking almost the entire day.
If this were the old version, I probably would’ve gotten away with just one base face.
Now that I’m doing four times the work, it is a bit exhausting—but the results are definitely more fun and satisfying.
Here’s a quick example I put together in the character creation screen.
foxy / default / aloof / catty / sweet
For cat-like faces, the eye slant is the key feature, but it’s a bit hidden under the hair, so it doesn’t really stand out here.
default / catty / aloof
sweet / foxy
So I also used the gallery function to grab some comparison images of the base expressions outside of the character creator.
I tweaked the eyebrow shapes a little for each one, too.
My focus is starting to fade, so I probably won’t get much more retexturing done today.
If I still have some energy before bed, I might try sketching something instead.
