"Paldogangsan" (Satoori Rap) | Lyrics, Dance Practice, Explanation Video, Live Performances + MORE!

“Gaga gaga” 👀

“Geosigi” 🤯

“Ahjura” 👶🏻

“Mul” 💦

We were thoroughly impressed by BTS’ highly complex intertwining of dialect, humor, history, personal anecdotes and social commentary within this song. Actually…this is not just a song. It is a CELEBRATION of diversity and unity.

We absolutely loved digging into the lyrics of and meaning behind this song…even though we still feel as if we know nothing at all about the song 😂

And that’s the BEAUTY of this JEWEL. THANK YOU for reacting to this MARVELOUS SONG 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

Also if you were interested, Jimin and Taehyung had a mini sort of series about satoori called Mandaggo where they discussed different ways of saying words in their province vs Seoul standard Korea Link to one episode https://youtu.be/0BdWkZPLpfg Also, since I was just watching your reaction to Jimin's effect on men and it was mentioned he was insecure about his androgynous looks perhaps that stems from also the fact that his region is very well known for "manly" men and he might have thought he was not living up to the proud provincial norms. just a thought anyway. Keep up the great work!

Tiny Mintana⁷

Seriously I love your reactions! You guys are doing a better job at being ARMY than me and I've been here since 2017 😂😂😂😂

Tiny Mintana⁷

Well that was fun! You guys cracked me up watching the bibimbap ... simple pleasures, huh? Anyway, onto the next vid...

actually, there is so much more to jhope's verse in ma city I could write a whole dissertation on it. He did a whole recall to a huge event that happened in Gwangju on/around 05/18 the gwangju massacre which prompted S.K development toward democracy. There's always a lot to unpack. The 518 reference in jhope's verse can also be linked to a throwback song of suga's before bts when he was known as gloss. He produced this song for his d-town crew and here is an explanation of the song : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ibskyoavmqs and a link to the actual song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mfim-5l_AQ4 I do hope one of these days you check it out. it is pretty mindboggling

Gaica

This was awesome-thank you! Love their dance practices too!

Quick little tidbit: since the early 60’s there was a huge political/regional divide between Jollado (Hobi) and Gyeongsando (Suga/V/Jimin & JK) provinces. Jollado is more liberal with Gyeongsando more conservative. My half-brother in Korea has told me stories about the conflicts between the 2 and it was quite scary back in the day. 1 example was delivery truck drivers would switch out their license plates at the borders (if you’re from Gyeongsando, you’d have that license plate and right before crossing into Jollado, they’d change it to Jollado plates and vice versa). If you didn’t, you could be “harmed”. More Presidents have been from the Gyeongsando province (7 out of 13; including last president Moon Jae-In (loves BTS)) than any other provinces.

Jane Rogers

You can! It’s “hey, hey, whatcha doin’?!”😁

Jane Rogers

They're excellent! I watched them ask and especially loved the one about RM

Tiffany1013

What stuck with me was "Ma! Ma! meorakano?" And I just wish I had occasions to use this in my everyday life!

Tiffany1013

Thank you so much for reacting to this song. I’ve heard this song before but never looked up the lyrics or anything about the song at all. So I basically was educated on the song, lyrics, meanings, and just how important of a message this song gave with your reaction video. So thank you J&J for the deep dive in this song….as always you both do such a great job. 💜💜 this makes me appreciate this song now that I know all of this. Have a beautiful rest of your week boys.

Rheichel Tormis

Loved the deep dive, as always. These guys never cease to amaze me, but it's come to the stage of just expecting greatness, it just flows from them. I cannot imagine anyone else with such hutzpah and the guts to carry out such taboo subjects, but in such an amusing way at times. They will NEVER be boring, thank God! I've always loved their satoori, especially how Hobi talks. They have and always will be, themselves, PERIOD. Thanks 2 J's! 💜💜

Singa7⁷

Just finished the 2 hour Satoori marathon. What a great reaction guys! Thank for that. Foodporn inclusive. 😁 Your pronounciation get's better in every reaction, Jared. I only watched one of these live performances and the DKDKTV video. It was so much fun to digging with you into the genius lyrics. That was really fun. Borahae!

Anja⁷

I really recommend that you react to GO! Billy's videos about all of the members different dialects. They are very good!

Dotty

Hey J & J, re the learning Korean. Is there a way to just join for the lessons? I'd LOVE to join you but cannot afford the tier, so hoping this is an option?

Singa7⁷

That was worth waiting for! I learned a lot too!

Kecia ⁷

LOL nicely explained! It's awesome right. And hello mah fellow Filo ARMY! 💜

J-Lee

So glad you reacted to this separately from the full album reaction, it really deserves plenty of time to be understood fully! 🙏 Personally, the reason I enjoy the song so much is because of how unconventional and daring it is, especially for Korea's entertainment/idol standards. You might not know this, but Korean celebrities usually try very hard to mask their regional dialects and adopt a standard Seoul dialect when they're working, as using satoori in entertainment is considered somewhat taboo. It's not super serious, of course, but having a thick dialect is definitely discouraged to some extent. This habit of hiding where you're from/changing the way you speak is especially true for Jeolla people, who are often discriminated against and stereotyped as duplicitous backstabbers, due to a long-running political smear campaign (Jeolla is known as the birthplace of Korean democracy, more liberal than other parts of SK, so it's not surprising that right wing politicians are behind the much of Jeolla's "infamy" ... It's a long story 🤣) Instead of hiding, very veeery young bts chooses to highlight the beauty and uniqueness of these dialects, sending a progressive message of unity at the same time. J-hope goes all out with his satoori (which sounds cool af, you're absolutely right Jared!) and represents Jeolla with pride instead of shame. Gyeongsang and Jeolla come together in friendship after years of rivalry and smear campaigns. It's just such a meaningful, progressive song wrapped in layers of "fun fun fun". Sorry for the essay 😂

Thanks for the reaction. Please react to amygdala mv by agust d.💜

Tali

Hey guys thanks for the extensive reaction. I think by time we reached DKDK David explain it I was mentally on strike cuz I haven't read that much since Easter Sundays service 🤣🤣 The last performance was from their 5th Muster back in 2019 which happens to be my favorite concert. Jordan mister....old grandmas/grandpas?? 🤨 I'm an OG but I'm not grandma yet k!!! Lol One thing I wanna point out is, not too long ago I believe RM said something along the lines of how earlier performances and practices were so serious and meticulous because they had to establish who they were as a group and showcase what they can do. Now in more later years, they don't go as hard cuz they just enjoy the moment and aren't worried about a mistake here or there. I think I love Paldogangsan cuz of the sound. It reminds me of that late 70's sound, which I am too young to remember but did grow up hearing alot. Plus, I LOVE Ma City, for the same reason. You guys did a great job, as always (and I will continue to say this till the end of time) Love you 💜 🫶💜🫶

I heard Paldogangsan early in my baby ARMY days but only started loving it after I saw them perform it live. It was during the 1st episode of Rookie King and the rap line performs it in a tiny club with ARMYs passionately singing along. As a pandemic ARMY I have a special fondness for performances where the ARMY can be heard clearly. It’s when BTS has even more of that irresistible energy.

Karen O'Halloran

The live performance is from 5th muster and guess what other performance is from 5th muster. You guessed it Pied Piper lol.

FUN FACT about the phrase "gaga gaga", we also have a similar word that is used in confusing phrases in tagalog (Philippine language). We have the word "baba" which can be translated into multiple meanings like "chin" (noun), "to go down" (verb) and "low" (adjective) and other uses depending on the context of the conversion and how you pronounce the word, because each "baba" word has different intonations when pronounced. One famous example is when you enter an elevator and you talk to the person inside and ask "bababa ba?" you're basically asking "is it going down?" and then the other person will nod and answer "bababa" which is simply confirming that "yes, its going down" loooool In other examples, you can also say "baba mo, baba mo" which translates to "lower your chin" hahahahaha, languages are so fascinating indeed.

Thank youuuu! Just what I needed today! Enjoyed this allots, thank you J n J! 💜

i love this song because it gave me such a new level of respect for bts' pen, honestly. it blows my mind when im reminded how complex their songs can be and how genius it is to represent your country while intentionally rapping in ur dialect. i've never seen anything like it. my family background is peruvian and we also have a rich culture with tons of regional accents, and people from the capital city can be very discriminatory at times towards those who are from other provinces, so i can relate the sentiment of the song to my own culture. i cant be sure, but i wouldn't be surprised if people native to seoul also occasionally looked down on people from the outside provinces, which in my opinion makes this song so much more brave to see how proud young bts is of being from their regions in an industry that was already discriminating against them.

Luna

I have to say it's so beautiful seeing y'all casually pronounce the hangul on doolset in the videos now, you've really come so far🙏🏾🤍

N ♡

Go Billy Korean on YouTube did a video series on how all the members speak Korean. He recently finished it and the series is very good! It talks about their dialect use as well.

N ♡

This was a great reaction... Enjoyed it very much... I enjoy learning with you... I learn so much more about BTS through y'alls videos and y'all are Amazing people to learn from... I just want to Thank You Two Beautiful Humans for just taking time out of y'alls days to put these together for others to watch... They are very much Entertaining and Appreciated... Sending Lots of Love to you for Mother's Day and Always💜💜💜💜

Loved the bibimbap break 😂😂 it’s a staple at my home and I even have separate breakfast and dinner recipes! I absolutely suggest making it yourself to try out its super delicious. The trickiest parts are pickling the cucumbers/veggies you want pickled and doing a homemade marinade, but neither is too difficult even if it’s your first time making it!!

suga_mv

Absolutely loved this! At one point when the boys were asked what they would change, Jimin said something along the lines of being more polite. That he can be harsh. I didn’t understand it at the time but there was a time that was mentioned at school about staying by himself. V to the rescue. Jimin had taken flack about his Satoori. Another YouTube was explaining the different dialects. Seoul is softer. Sartorial is brusker. You may think some people are fighting but it’s just normal conversation. Please correct me if I’m wrong. I gathered it from multiple places over time. I’m still smiling and plan to turn right around and watch it again! 🦋💜💜

Tricia

it’s genuinely really hard to explain why i love this song so much. i think it’s bc it’s so unserious. the world is full of people constantly bickering and complaining about cultural differences and worrying about who’s better. when at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter at all. we’re all just people in this big world. we have differences but they’re not bad. it’s fun to talk about it. it’s fun to lightly poke fun or compare but it doesn’t have to be some big knockdown drag out. if anything, our differences should be celebrated and i feel like that’s what this song does.

shelby🖤

OMG This was so fun. Thank you for diving into this song fully. I love it so much. I often listen to this song on loop on my stereo system when I'm cleaning house. The friggen energy it gives. Makes dusting pretty damned entertaining. Can't help but want gelato after hearing it 3 or 4 times in a row though, because my pea brain can't help but hear that even though I know they're saying Jeollado.. so it's become my regular reward for finishing cleaning. 😂😭🤧🍨

viperine

I see now…. any time a comment gets liked I know what is coming soon…. (obvs I wont tell anyone lol)

Members of QHC

What a great reaction. Thanks for that. I think, they can be 3 hours long, we will watch it all :), I love to listen to you. I always liked this song, but I never deepdived into it, so it was a good thing today. Love the song now even more. The last live performance btw was from the 5th Muster I think. Its the same show, where they performed the OT7 Ddaeng, that you liked so much :) Borahae 💜💜💜

Noll⁷

BTS has so much personality in their Music and performance. it´s so boring to watch other groups just look so serious while dancing and then they bow and leave the stage. BTS is bobbly and you can se and feel they have fun. u will also see it in award shows. they are totally different compared to others. also the reason why people loved them because they where different and HONEST witch is the main point. they are themself they don´t pretend to be something they are not

leat

If you can only react to one song for Mother’s Day then definitely yes to J-Hope’s Mama. But if you had time to sneak in one more, then Jin’s cover of Mom is also worth a listen. But whatever we get, I’m thrilled to get videos two days in a row - thank you! 💜

Frances

Ahhhh, that last Padogangsan performance is from the 5th Muster in Busan!! It was one of my favorite performances 💕
