*EARLY ACCESS* - The Rise of Bangtan (Chapter 1) | Twins First Reaction!
Added 2022-07-09 15:36:22 +0000 UTC
HAPPY 9TH BTS ARMY DAY!!!! Over the past several months, we have received hundreds of comments from ARMYs requesting that we check out the incredible fan-made docuseries, "The Rise of Bangtan."
We decided that we couldn't wait any longer. Today, on the 9th ANNUAL ARMY DAY, we gift to you...our reaction to the FIRST CHAPTER of The Rise of Bangtan. It may have been the best 30 minutes of content we have ever consumed. And to think that we have 20 more chapters ahead of us...this is the medicine we have been looking for.
ARMY, we truly appreciate your love and support. As we've mentioned, we are on a MISSION to learn as much about BTS (and in turn, as much about ourselves and ARMY) as humanly possible. And we cannot do any of this without YOU. Your subscription allows us to produce higher-quality reaction videos, and moves us closer to our goal of doing this full-time!
BORAHAE!!
I think you are mis-understanding. She is using the footage of other companies, trainees and groups to show how BTS and BigHit were different.

To anyone watching this… You’re probably new army. take this series with a grain of salt because some things are not true.
Bang PD created his own company because he didn’t agree with how the kpop industry worked. He didn’t like how the artist were treated, he didn’t like the company’s rules.
He wanted to create an entirely new system and that’s what he did. The creator of this series is a fan of kpop and inserted a lot of things that are ONLY TRUE for her other groups, NOT BTS.

I’m late starting the series so hopefully some will read this. The biggest problem with these first couple is that the person who made this weirdly put in groups that had nothing to do with BTS and in fact show how different K-pop is from how BTS began. When approached, the creator said that people would understand there was a difference, however I haven’t seen anyone who understood that at all lol. We actually do have footage regarding how Bangtan began but it was not included… There is a lot of content that isn’t included with this series.
Instead, watching what BTS has actually put together themselves would be better? There’s nothing wrong with this as a fan made group, but it definitely does not show the complete story- Or in some cases, like the first couple it implies something that is not true at all

Great comment and one of the lines you wrote hit me as so much truth "They are consistent whether they are struggling or succeeding"......powerful statement. We know them to be authentic on film because we have seen them in thousands of hours of footage and they never stray from the personalities we know and love. Of course they experience all the emotions we all do..anger, sadness, disappointment, but their core values never stray. Add to this the fact that everyone who has ever met them or worked for them constantly reinforce what good people they are to everyone, no matter the status of that person they are interacting with.

Not sure if its already been mentioned - but BTS did a collab (song + concert) with Seo Taiji for their 25th anniversary. The song they officially produced a cover of is called "Come Back Home" and is a fantastic listen! Talk about passing the torch from one generation to the next!

The dichotomy that is presented in this episode is powerful and truly is, I think, the basis for BTS's success. They are immensely talented and hardworking, but there are other talented, hardworking and driven people who don't/won't see half of BTS's success. You guys touched on it in your discussion, but the reason that BTS are where they are today is that, from the beginning, they have been authentic to themselves and that has resonated deeply with people around the world. A good point is made that the K-pop industry is criticized for the same practices that competitive sports programs regularly employ. However, I think the difference to most people is that when it comes to things like art and music, it gives that art a manufactured quality or appearance. The biggest difference between BTS and other K-pop acts is the philosophy of their company and founder that allows them to express themselves. More than that though, their specific circumstances (like not having the money or prestige to market through mainstream channels and therefore turning to vlogging and building an online following) has led them to engage with fans more personally than ever before (this is now the "playbook"). There are countless hours of footage that give us a peek behind the curtain and reveal the personality of every character in this story. You can't help but observe their authenticity because they are so consistent whether they are struggling or succeeding. It draws people in. BTS really is the product of the right people and circumstances to break the mold, so much so that it is said to be fate. I can't wait to continue on this journey with you guys!

Loved the reaction guys! So happy to support such hard working creators! Compared to most kpop companies, bts really did have much more freedom. Most kpop groups get handed songs by the company and producers, and don't really get much of a say in the music. (this doesn't diminish the work the other kpop idols had to go through, we can see what a grueling training process it is) but the authenticity in bts' music, since they are the foundation writers and producers of their music, is really what set bts apart from other kpop acts. And since they had less restrictions, bighit really did need to find TALENT for this group. Not just randoms. Bts had the potential and then honed their craft. If you notice, RM and Suga who were experienced rappers, JHope and Jimin who were experienced dancers, (and ofc the all rounder vocalist Jungkook and hard working powerhouse Jin), all had a certain speciality that they were able to teach each other. They were able to learn from each other and create that powerful overflowing talent we see today. And also create that unmistakeable teamwork and respect they hold with each other.
So excited for the upcoming chapters!

Okay so…. I went through the comments and it looks like army has given you the answers to the questions you had during your reaction, but I thought I would add on just a little bit more context… specifically, cultural context.
I would suggest looking at BTS’s training days as boarding school. As you know, a lot of the members were underage when they joined the group (JK was the youngest at 12-13) But even for those who were 18 (or 20 according to the Korean count), they were still pretty much considered kids. What I mean by that is that unlike the western culture, children in Asian cultures don’t gain a sense of added freedom when we turn 18 because we still pretty much live at home and have our parents so everything (and I mean everything!) for us. So when they are taken in by a company, the company become entirely responsible for them. So were there rules that BTS had to follow? Yes! But most of it comes from a point of view of security and safety. Similar to a boarding school, it is the company’s responsibility to do what they needed to do while the boys were under their care. Moving forward you’ll get more information about the rules and how the members viewed some of these rules but I think it’s important to remember this context.
But…. This applies only to BTS. The rules that the other groups mention in the coming chapters don’t all apply to our boys.
Also….. regarding the weight quota. The boys haven’t openly stated that their company expected them to lose weight but they did talk about situations when they were told they were eating more than they should. Unfortunately, because the South Korean Music Scene developed with the television, it developed a certain visual standard within idol groups. So even if the company didn’t comment on the boys’ weight, the public and media would (and they did). We’ll be able to give you more context on which member and how it impacted their health (physical and mental) as well as how they grew out of it when the time comes.
Thank you so much for the reaction and I’m so glad to be here with you on this journey. 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

Hi guys, wanted to explain that your Korean age will always be at least one year older than your international age. That’s because the Korean age adds one year because of the time you spent in the womb before being born (approximately one year).
Your Korean age will change on New Year’s Day, not on your birthday. People in Korea still celebrate their birthdays on the day they were born and count their actual age. However, it doesn’t affect their Korean age as it changes on January 1st. In the U.S., we go by international age. I Korea is the only country that calculates age this way. BORAHAE!!! 💜

Thank you for sharing your BTS journey with us.... Not sure if you guys are aware of the difference between Korean Age and International Age... Koreans count age differently to us.... Rise Of Bangtan uses Korean ages, you will need to adjust.
Korean Age vs International Age - difference is 1-2 years depending on if their birthday has been....
Rule of thumb - if it's before their birthday - subtract 2 years to get international age. if it's after their birthday - subtract 1 year to get their international age.
When you are born you are considered 1 year old. Then on 01 Jan every year you add another year to your age, no matter what your birthdate is. ....
EG: TaeHyung (V) born 30 Dec 1995 ...... current International Age 26 (Korean Age 28). ... 2 years difference
So Tae born 30 Dec 95 is 1 year old, then on 01 Jan 96 he is 1 more year older (so they would say he is 2 years old, when we would say he is 2 days old.)
So he was considered 28 in Korea since 01 January, we would say he is 26 turning 27 in Dec.
EG: Hoseok (JHope) born 18 Feb 1994...... current International Age 28 (Korean Age 29)... .currently 1 years difference
He turned 28 on 18 Feb - but will still be considered 29 in Korea (the difference is only 1 year - until Jan 1 - then back to 2 years difference)
It's a different way of looking at age, from new years day - JHope is living his 29th year (since conception) - instead of - he turned 28 (since birth)....
EG: Jeongguk (JK) born 01 Sept 1997...... current International Age 24 (Korean Age 26)... .2 years difference
He was considered 26 in Korea since January, even though we would say he's 24 turning 25 in Sept.
So JK started with BigHit in 2011 at 13, but he would say 15 in korean age.
At BTS debut on 13 Jun 13 JK was 15 in international age (17 in korean age)
International Age at Debut on 13June13 (Year and international age became trainee)
Jin - 20 yo (2011 - 18yo)
Suga - 19 yo (2011 - 17yo)
JHope - 19 yo (2011 - 17yo)
RM - 18 yo (2010 - 15yo)
Jimin - 17 yo (2012 - 16yo)
V - 17 yo (2011 - 15yo)
JK - 15 yo (2011 - 13yo)
In most series they are giving Korean ages so you will need to adjust.
Hope that makes sense!!💜💜

The creator of Rise of Bangtan Aneesa did a great interview with some BTS reactors Reed Reacts and she goes in depth with both her personal story to BTS and her intentions behind the series. Plus it gives some insight into how much work goes into this that Aneesa does the bulk of and how it's made purely out of love and not to profit off BTS. No matter how many times I have watched this, it always tugs at my heart strings that these boys endured so much mistreatment and abuse, so early - from boys to men & idols to legends. You can see the love they each had for their craft, the brotherly/family love they were nurturing for each other, the hunger they each had to succeed and the trust they had in their collective goals & mindset. Their dream of success became so much more than they ever expected. They had no idea how huge and global they would be. For me apart from their undeniable talent & hard work ethic, it is their sincerity, their humility and the way they carry themselves & love ARMY - all that swag without the arrogance, it is the epitome of class and the reason they are so loved and supported by ARMY.

I think that first vlog from Jin was like a msg to let us know that they're mainly by themselves during their trainee days. They're not living with their families, and yet they need to go on training and study at the same time. He's the youngest in their family that's why he adjusted a lot living with the six members and being the oldest that takes care of the other members.

Hey guys!! I am so glad I joined your Patreon. I can't wait to go on this journey with you. ARMY has probably already answered your questions but I will also in case they haven't yet. ARMY was made official on July 9th, 2013. And BigHit does not treat their trainees the way a lot of the other companies do. While they do have rules and expectations, they focused more on BTS connecting with their fans and being genuine while also being nearly perfect with their talent. They have worked so hard mostly because of ARMY. They don't ever want to disappoint or let ARMY down. Of course they never have and never will. Hitman Bang, in my opinion, is a genius. He knew that a boy band needs to be authentic and real and connect with people and their fans. He also wanted them to be positive role models and stand up for those who couldn't. He knew that people would connect with the boys right away and would be with them through anything. And he did that by showing so much of their lives. It was more than just their music and dancing. That's why they have had as much content of them doing everyday things or going on vacations together. Sharing their practices and shooting sketches. In American Hustle Life we say Jimin and RM cleaning a bathroom and the toilet that was disgusting. You would never see any of the American boy bands cleaning a toilet or filming them going on vacations together and doing silly, funny things. Thats the whole thing with BTS. They are the some of the biggest stars in the world but you would never know it by looking at them or if you saw them out in public. They don't just say they love and appreciate and are truly grateful for ARMY. They show it to us and they truly mean what they say and do. And in turn ARMY wants to do the same for them. We do not ever want to embarrass them or disappoint them by doing selfish, rude, disrespectful things or treating people that way. That is also why ARMY will be with them for eternity. I don't think there will ever be another group even close to them and what they have accomplished and how they got to where they are. Fyi, I am a 53 yr old ARMY and I will be until my last breath. Thank you for your interest in BTS and for how much you analyze and appreciate what they do. Can't wait for the next chapters 💜💜💜

Ugh!! I've watched this series hundreds of times! Still, it gives me goosebumps and tears when I watched it with you. Also, the Deleted scenes and Bonus Contents are nice watch too. If you could squeeze these in, that would be great. You can see the boys in those episodes as like more normal humans. Thanks so much again guys for this lovely gift!! Looking forward for more BTS contents with you! 💜

Seo Taiji actually invited BTS to perform with him in his 25th anniv concert. He knew that BTS has the same principles as him when it comes to music and lyrics. The boys really look up to him as well. Sorry for commenting in bits and pcs coz I'm just writing as I watch. Haha I'll forget what I'm gonna say if I wait till the end of the vid. Anyways, I'm super enjoying this! Waited for this for sooo long! Thanks guys 💜

You're worthy to watch this incredible documentary because you began this journey with respect and an open mind, dedicated and willing to learn the history of BTS and ARMY, before even consuming the overwhelming discography. I'm excited to watch your tumble down the Bangtan rabbit hole. Borahae💜

Loved it! Especially stopping to appreciate all the music BTS was surrounding themselves with as well as creating on their own. It just comes across how much they love music; they've always shared their playlist recommendations with us thru the years and stuff they've been listening to and it covers so many genres: Korean folk songs, classic American jazz & R&B, pop, Korean and American hip-hop, classical music compositions from Bach, etc... You just really feel the vibe that they want to learn and grow in music so much.

Hi Guys! So glad you're on Patreon now! One thing that doesn't get said enough is the fact that all of BTS have well above average intelligence. While RM has an IQ of 148, Suga has mentioned his IQ is 143 and estimated that V's is about 141 or 142, which he later confirmed. Jimin and Jungkook said their IQs were 135 and 136, while Jin joked that his was 107, not realizing that that's still above average. Most likely, because his is higher than that and he doesn't even know what the average is. The only one that hasn't commented on their IQ score is J-Hope and it's obvious that he's above average as well. We truly stan intellectual Kings! You'll get to see just how much, the more you delve into the content.💜
Side note, the video of Jungkook dancing to Joe was during the time he was sent to Los Angeles to fine tune his dancing skills because he showed so much potential for being a part of the debuting dance line.

So glad to see you are watching this! I am glad to watch this with you. I hope maybe you will to a "live" and stream it so we ARMY can be there with you. No pressure but that would be fun every now and then. When Aneesa release this series I felt so compelled to give that girl some money. Such a labor of love and using her talents to make an amazing documentary. She has a patreon but I believe she's shutting it down soon. She's a genius editor but an even better storyteller. She has taken so much content and really boils it down. I

I watch some reactors but none seem as passionate about learning about BTS. It’s so heartwarming to see them affect you both as they have the rest of us army..I love seeing the as they amaze you it’s like reliving it all...you are the only ones I can afford to watch on Patreon’ but I feel out of all of them you are the genuine....can’t wait to see the journey with you..as exciting and blown away as this first episode has been so will the the others💜💜💜

I'm so happy that you have started this journey in the BTS universe, there is so much to know, whether it's about the group and the insane amount of content and music that they have, but also k-pop in general, which is an industry (not a musical genre) that has so many rules, ways of doing things, it's history. It's a subculture.
I really appreciate that you take the time in these videos and take notes if needed, it's a lot of information at once but it's worth it.
Also, I see that you really like their younger songs, their covers, but I wanted to say that by learning more, their music grows with them, I think that in addition to appreciating their work, there will be a point in their discography where you can even connect to it on a personal level with the themes they address but also the artistic, literary and philosophical influences they add in their work.
I look forward to your next video, this was a pleasure to watch, keep up the good work. Fighting !

You guys still amaze me every time!!
Thank you for this great reaction and I’m so glad that I discovered your videos only a few days after your first reaction to BTS. As a person that discovered BTS only a year ago, those few lasts month have been impressive and I think I can confidently say these guys changed my life! I found BTS in the most random way, while I was struggling with my professional career and started to lose motivation and vision towards the things I do. They motivated me and their journey inspired me to keep going on and keep searching for my path. Seeing their hard work, hearing the speeches they delivered and the messages they send comforts me and make me want to reach a better side of myself. I am the clear example of these famous words "BTS finds you when you need them the most"
Thank you for this great hour and I’m certainly looking forwards to your journey as it reminds of the beginning of mine.

i wont say that a collective mind is what korean people have. they learn to respect elders and blend in with the crowd. i watch korean dramas so i have a different view on the society. they don´t like to bother anyone with their problems. they rarely talk about hardships in life because it´s something you have to keep for yourself. that is what i get. BTS on the other hand is very different. other idols may be sweet and respectable but i don´t see them take care of eachother like BTS does. Jimin is the most caring and he rub it off on the others. same goes for the other members. they each bring something to the team. they even turned Suga into a softy hehe

Omg I’m so happy you guys have finally gotten to the amazing Rise of Bangtan series and have created a patreon. I have been watching since your first BTS video of black swan came out and I can’t wait to follow you in your journey into BTS. Just a note that ARMY was created in 2013 the same year they debuted. The other songs in the 2 Cool 4 Skool album that you need to know are:
Intro: 2 Cool 4 Skool which you heard briefly in the episode
Like
There’s also an interlude and Outro if you wanna check it out but it’s not that necessary.
I don’t know when you’ll start with other types of content like run BTS or compilations etc and I don’t want to get ahead of myself 😂 but those will also be super cool to see. There are some great compilation channels that ARMYs will always recommend and if you want to start then you can just ask for recommendations and see which one is most popular. So so so excited for this. Borahae 💜

So excited for this content!! You guys might enjoy the video “KPOP HISTORY In 20mins” by DKDKTV. There are some clips from that in this episode of RoB, and it gives you a great crash course on the industry, seo taji’s legacy, how it’s evolved over the years. Thank you for the amazing reaction as always!!

Please if you can...Can you do a bonus and deleted scenes (each about 10minutes) along with a chapter video? Can you watch it together? Cause it will be really comfortable, if you watch all the deleted/bonus scenes together with the actual chapter, because they really involved with chapter(periods of time connected to chapter)and you won't forget what you watched in previous episode. Will be glad watch it together after a full chapter, all together video will be about a hour💞

girl and boy groups are both on a strict diets, fat shaming is directed towards all genders, Jimin was the main victim of this in BTS because he had baby fat on his cheeks, the bullying was so bad to the point he was fainting often due to not eating.

still not done w/ the video but I wanted to add that Seo Taiji’s music was popular with Korean youth due to the authentic messages of anti-establishment and such. Though when his group disbanded, (as mentioned in the video) the entertainment businesses created this “manufactured” version of what Seo Taiji introduced. That’s one reason why BTS in particular became so popular. BTS’ early music had a lot of the same authentic messages Seo Taiji had years prior. Seo Taiji even had a concert in 2017 where he passed the torch down to BTS and even had them join him for a few songs.

Seo Taiji and boys' story is crazy as well. They went on some talent show (which was televised) and that made them famous even tho they didn't even make it through the first round. After that, they had an insane influence on the Korean music industry. They are the reason for the disappearance of most of the censorship. One of their songs got refused by the Korean government because of its lyrics, so they released the song without any lyrics, which infuriated their fans (basically all young Koreans). This made the government change music censorship because they obviously didn't want a big part of the country against them.
