Thanks for this Jon! Just listened to this for the first time with you, definitely a new fan. I wanted to say that I can completely relate to your mention that Elliott's music is super anxiety ridden, yet also anxiety relieving. I'm born and raised in Portland, grew up knowing his name and biggest songs, even hearing stories about him from my musician relatives. Although his music was totally up my alley in HS (lots of modest mouse, cat power and red house painters), I didn't really fall in love with his full discography until going through my first heartbreak at 19, and the social consequences of being single and feeling alone after. Over the next few years I was playing his music in headphones 24/7 and would even take breaks from parties to listen and calm down, and in combination with alcohol it really seemed to help. A decade later, and two years sober, I know that I was struggling with anxiety and depression, but at the time, I felt like he was a companion who helped me fight back against a nameless enemy.

BRO!!! Such a great album... look into the lyrics of Kyoto. It's upbeat but it's the most devastating on the record lyrically, at least in my opinion.
