Hey Jon! Just subbed to the Patreon, used to sub to Rock Reacts. Few things, 1. Thanks for all your work on the channel. I've noticed the views have dropped since the end of Rock Reacts and I appreciate that you're still putting out really quality content, arguably better than ever. 2. Loving the "szn" style full album reacts you're doing, and the general switching up of the format. Love that it's Drake season, loved Frank szn. 3. You should definitely do a Lana szn, or at the very least check out a few songs. She's not only got some amazing tracks but there's a good chance the vids would attract new viewers to the channel. I would suggest National Anthem as an intro track. It's a great song and heavily features A$AP Rocky in the music video. I would also suggest Born to Die, Blue Jeans and Summertime Sadness, all really quality tracks. That's it, thanks again!

I think the darkness in the music is not just character, but inspiration from the struggles in his life. I don't think as fans, we are right to expect him to create music from the same place. He had dark times but now, his success is something we should all enjoy. So wherever he goes from here, we are part of his journey.

Another super solid review Jon! I would say though that a few of the tracks you didn't love may grow with time (Real life, as you are, angel). They're also a bit more situational which is why I suppose I really felt the emotion in them.

Girl born in the 90s was the original track but it got leaked and Abel had to redo the entire track which is now called Acquainted. It's on soundcloud and imo way better than acquainted.

Yeah they totally are different fans. I've been with him since the beginning, but I'm totally down with him going more commercial (I just don't like it as much but it's still top tier music). I hope the next album is a bit darker, but I'll always support an artist as talented as him and one that's given me so much.

I feel bbtm has some strong songs but he went to far pop after kissland didn’t perform as well as he wanted. I feel like he starboy he was staying more true to himself and his new life as a mega star so it’s inherently less dark but I like the authenticity and he isn’t acting like he’s still partying in a small loft in the city blacking out partying. Mdm, brings it all back together and combines the darkness and his authenticity now. Looking forward to his next album.

I totally agree with your analysis of Acquainted and As You Are for a first couple times through. For me personally, those really resonated with me after multiple listens (maybe because "life" happened that was relevant to the songs), but yeah the older music hits much harder and has a much deeper message I feel. Your analysis is great, and look forward to the next artist you really want to take a deep dive into!

It amazes me how you are a "new XO" fan and understand his music so well. I feel the same about this album. I love it but it is my least favorite out of all his work. ( Which is crazy considering it has the most "popular/mainstream" songs on it.) This album to me was kind of all over the place; hence the name beauty behind the madness. Good work, Jon. 😎 #XO

Lana is in a similar boat to The Weeknd for her musical discog. Her older albums were fucking amazing. Newer albums have their high points and low points. Would recommend a Lana season after The Weeknd season, they have really similar vibes. If not def at least check out the album Born To Die by Lana

What I have noticed is that the fans who liked Abel for his recent pop albums are very different from the fans of Kiss Land and Trilogy; the latter calling themselves real fans who almost don't like the fact that he doesn't produce the same dark music anymore. The weeknd has said before that the character from lanas music is the girl he sings about and she has the said the same vice versa. Also abel said that Lana has always inspired him, particularly in songs like Lonely star. Would Defs recommend checking Lana out :). Cool reaction too, as always with the weeknd I think the rest of the album will grow on you heaps with time
