Nail House RAW - Action Design Meetings

RAW! This is that rough, raw, unfiltered behind-the-scenes set of meetings we promised. Well, it's a little cooked. I've edited these meetings down to save time and your sanity as we ramble on about unrelated topics.

As we've discussed before, we are working towards shooting the Train Car fight scene before the end of the year. So our action designer Yung spent three days out in Toronto with a stunt team to do a first pass on the sequence.

Each night after their day of choreo, Freddie, Yung, and I then reviewed what they had designed and shot. We discussed ideas and revisions, and then the next day Yung filmed those changes. After 3 days we have a great foundation for the scene. This is a cutdown of those notes meetings.

Action Design iteration and the next step will be to repeat this process but on the actual set. With the physicality of the set, and Freddie and I there in person with a camera, we can break down how we will actually film the sequence. This will undoubtedly inspire more ideas, and change the choreography. Also, as we get further into pre-pro and action design of the other sequences, we will better understand the overall scope of action and pacing in the film, which will cause more changes. Essentially, every scene changes forever until the final edit. But this is all part of the process.

I've also attached four versions of the fight scene that Yung edited each day, so you can just view them without us talking over them and pausing every few seconds.

On the final day, Yung created two edits of the fight scene. One that had everything they shot, and then a proposed trim down, to get it closer to 3 minutes.

If you have any questions about the sequence, action design in general, or just anything film-related, shout it out in the comments or our discord.

I'm literally giddy watching this. There are already so many amazing ideas in what's been shot, and it is absolutely fascinating watching more bubble to the surface during your conversations. Really love the production updates!
