I noticed from the Wizard of Oz video, that none of the girls understood the Romeo and Juliet reference in the Tin Man's song. I was hoping the girls would watch the Romeo and Juliet movie from 1968. It is widely considered the best. Sadly, the female lead, Olivia Hussey just passed away.

Will Smith's character getting saved on the pier while being attacked by 100 zombies upside down in a car might be the greatest and most absurd deus ex machina in all of cinema.

Omega Man is the older version from the 70s but then, there's also what Omega Man was based on - "The Last Man on Earth" with Vincent Price. From 1964. Both are really good, too.
Interestingly, the novel that all of these are based on is called "I Am Legend" - it was written in 1954. So, when "I Am Legend" (the film) was made, they were circling back to the actual novel's name.

This movie is based on a book called I AM LEGEND that was written in 1954 by Richard Matheson. In this film, the meaning of I AM LEGEND is that Robert Neville is a legend because he cures humanity, but the book is quite different. In the book, Robert is the last human in a world where everyone else is a vampire, and he's all alone. Robert spends his time trying to figure out what happened and hunts the vampires during the day and kills them, but then he realizes that the vampires have their own society, and in that society he is the monster that hunts them during the daylight. To them, he is the monster. He is their legend.
Richard Matheson is a fairly important figure in horror literature. Stephen King said, "I am Richard Matheson's bastard son."
Another Matheson adaptation is A STIR OF ECHOES 1999. It's actually a pretty good movie starring Kevin Bacon, but mostly forgotten because it was released at the same time as THE SIXTH SENSE.
If you haven't seen SHREK, you should definitely watch Shrek and Shrek 2.

Hi girls, thank you for reacting to this movie, good job as always. The title I Am Legend does not apply to the movie like it did to the book. In the book the infected humans had a society, but they couldn't survive sunlight. Robert Neville hunted them during the day and they were afraid of him. So he became a legend to them the same way we talk about werewolves and vampires. Robert is the boogeyman to the new version of humans.

It wouldn’t surprise me that’s correct. Because if I remember correctly the original story is Will Smiths character is “legend” to the zombies, not the humans, because he has become the monster in the eyes of the infected people who now view him as a legend and fear him. So they very likely have complex thoughts and emotions about him and took it very personally for what he did by taking that particular girl (not to mention he had taken many people in the past and they never seemed to care as much, so that was probably a tipping point. Like “omg this guy keeps abducting us and now he’s taken her, we gotta get him!” 🤣)

This is getting ridiculous. World War Z and I Am Legend aren't garbage movies.
There aren't just masterpieces and garbage movies. There's a huge range in between, probably containing 70 to 80 percent of all other movies, that are simply good.
Yes, many of these movies have their flaws, and some even have many flaws, but that doesn't make them garbage movies.
I Am Legend is a good movie; the story has good pacing and is excitingly told and Will Smith's acting is good. The only criticism one could level at it is that the CGI for the Darkseeker hasn't aged very well (some would even say it was never good😅). But that doesn't make it a garbage movie.
I think this is really a overreaction and an attempt to stir up negativity.

Chi is such a romantic; she just wants a girlfriend for Will Smith's character.😅
I think Yuna is right. The woman Robert captured for his experiments was probably the leader's wife or daughter, and that made it personal. You can see several times in the movie that the other Darkseekers don't just attack blindly, but leave the leader, to handle Robert.
The Darkseeker leader wouldn't stop as long as Robert lived, and he realized that in the end, which is why he sacrificed himself.
The movie does suggest that the Darkseekers seem to be evolving. For example, in the scene with the dog attack, it shows that the Darkseekers have probably started domesticating the infected dogs, just like humans used to do with wolves.
What I'm not sure about is the trap the Darkseekers set. My theory is that the trap itself is one Robert set at some point and then forgot about, perhaps due to the emotional stress of the moment.
I think the Darkseeker found the trap and figured out how it worked, and they placed the mannequin there to lure Robert.
Assuming they recreated the trap so perfectly in such a short time seems too unlikely to me, even considering possible evolution.
What the movie also shows well is what prolonged isolation can do to a person. I think if Robert hadn't had Sam, he wouldn't have lasted so long.
It's a really good movie with many intense scenes and a great performance by Will Smith.
That was an awesome reaction, ladies, as always.💜

There's an older version of this called "Omega Man" from the 1970's. While both were based off a book called "I am Legend" I would say Omega Man is actually closer to the book in how it plays out. Worth a watch if you're interested in an older classic.

There is an alternate ending to this movie, it's on youtube if you want to watch it, in that version will smith risks opening the door to bring out the cured darkseeker, the leader allows him to bring her out and keeps the other darkseekers from attacking Will Smith, the leader carries the cured darkseeker out and leaves the 3 humans in peace. Complete opposite of the ended they went with, I think they made the right choice.
