2025-05-09 03:50:50 +0000 UTCI love this movie! It would be awesome if you guys react to part 2 and 3. Pat Morita is the actor who played Mr. Myagi. He used to do comedy roles tv shows and movies. Karate Kid was the first time he's even done a drama role. He was a good actor god rest his soul.

It is the original that spawned all the other Karate Kid movies, and I think this would have to be the most popular version of "The Karate Kid". Ralph Macchio, by the way, was in "My Cousin Vinny." Also, side note: this movie reminded me you all should watch "The Outsiders," a classic with a host of stars in it(young), plus it's a Francis Ford Coppola movie.

If you like these classics, I'd recommend the following: The Goonies, The Labyrinth, Rudy, Spider-Man 1 and 2 directed by Sam Raimi, The Highlander, and Rocky.

2025-05-03 08:22:40 +0000 UTCThere are actually four parts of Karate Kid although 4th movie called The Next Karate Kid doesn't have much connection with 1,2,3 but it's still good. Karate Kid from 2010 featuring Jaden Smith (Will Smith's son) and Jackie Chan as "Miyagi" is kind of reboot of the classic Karate Kid. I recommend watching them all if you liked part 1 ☺️ Karate Kid franchise was one if my favorite childhood movies along with Back to the Future

Another film you 3 may enjoy is 'Leaving Las Vegas ' (1995). It's one of Elisabeth Shue's best roles. She played 'Ali' in this film.

Someone already mentioned the Cobra Kai TV series, but I was really surprised how good it was. It follows the story of Johnny Lawrence and how he became a bit of a screw up after losing to Daniel. At the beginning of the movie, Chi asked if that was "soil or rock". It's rock, mostly. That's just the way the South West United states looks. A lot of that area is desert. That part of the United States has some areas that are uninhabited. Only lizards and weird plants live there. The scene about Mr. Miyagi's wife is even sadder if you know a bit about American history. From 1942-1946 the Japanese people who lived in the United States were put in camps because during World War 2 the Americans were in a war with Japan. Our government at the time, feared that the Japanese living here would attack or be spies. So, they got put in camps even though they did nothing wrong. Some Japanese men were sent/volunteered to fight the Germans while their families were in these camps, so Mr. Miyagi's wife would have been in one of those camps and that's why she didn't get the medical attention that she needed.

2025-04-22 20:30:04 +0000 UTCYou want more, you say? Oh there's more alright. Karate Kid 2 and 3 are must watches. Karate Kid 3 is kind of looked down upon, but I think it's still great. Avoid The Next Karate Kid as it is the deserved black sheep of the franchise. The remake is also now a must see given the legacy sequel that will be coming out later this year. Once all the movies have been seen (except for Next Karate Kid and the upcoming legacy sequel) and Game of Thrones is finished, Cobra Kai NEEDS to be the next TV series on your list. In my personal opinion, Cobra Kai is the best part of the entire Karate Kid franchise, and that's saying a lot given how good most of the movies are.

There is also the series "Cobra Kai" that came out a few years ago that follows the original characters. I only watched 2 seasons of it but I hear it stays good throughout the rest of the seasons. I would watch it all the way through if the Movie Munchies watched it.
