Development Update #5 - April 17, 2017

Hey there! It's Monday, let's get right to it!
There will be a separate public post with the release date.

So let's start with the work of the people who help the project.

Most of the voice acting is done, I'll post samples this week. I think they are awesome! I managed to get Alexia to do the partial voice acting for all mature characters, including mom! She's done an awesome job!
You can find out more about here and her work on her twitter!
Tracy's voice is not fully done yet but I'll post as soon as it is.

So the new game mechanic is ready. The coder is ironing out the bugs, making the small tweaks I requested. Now I can tell you all about it. There will be a public post about this next week with pictures, but for now only you guys get to know.

There will be an event on Day 4 (remember, we left off at Day 2 night) in which the main character is home alone. So why not use the time to do some exploration in the house?

The basis of this mechanic is a point-and-click style minigame. You will be able to go to various locations of the house and interact with items. There will be an objective to the exploration, but there are also going to be clues which you can use to get a clearer view of the story. Something like a simple detective game.

It adds more interactivity and more actual 'gameplay' rather than just reading through the story. (I know that can be tiring.)
In Episode 2 this mechanic will serve as an experiment (and of course some fun gameplay).  I say this because I designed it with expandability in mind. If you like it (and I hope you will) then it will be seriously expanded in Episode 3.

So about my work now.

The scenes for the main build are completed and steady rendering is in progress. I'm working on the Dream Scenes now for the Mad Scientist tier Patrons. Not much left.
I did some amount of writing and actual coding  for the game, but I can finally start working on that with full force. I've been taking tons of notes with my ideas on them so my mind is eagerly waiting to unleash everything, so the writing process is going to be a breeze (and a breeze of fresh air).
It was really tiring to work this much on the scenes with no change of work. I thought about switching it up, doing some images and some writing, but that's just not how I work. But hey, I made about 260 images afterall. Without the extras. And I'm note done yet.

So next week pictures about the exploration and voice sample of Tracy.
This week voice samples and preview image.

Next public post has release date. I'll also add a countdown timer to the main page. So that's it for now,

and as always, thank you to everyone for the support!

Comments

Thank you! :)

I love your Models, i know i told you that before but its soooo true, perfect art buddy

Haha, I appreciate the concern, and some good old ass-slapping surely helps :D

I hate watercooling :-| My last watercooled system was all the time dry. On dissasembly i accidentally spilled some water on the motherboard ... and everything went to hell :-| Yeah, my mistake but i hate it nevertheless. Its really fine when its working correctly.. but if not, god may have mercy with you ;-) If i had to run a 4xGFX system ... my soultion for the noise problem would be to put it in a other room ;-) :-P Cheap, Silent... and you safe some money in winter time (heating) ;-)

OZ

What I do is in fact underexpose in tone mapping, so the whites won't get 'burned', basically if I find the right settings the 2 images look identical lighting wise, just the renderer has more lumens to work with, which should result in less noise. And yes, the new hardware certainly helps! Oh man, when it's finished, it's gonna be a monster! That's going to be a hard project again, doing the full custom loop.

Lewdlab

Thx for your answer :-) You know SIN, you shouldnt overexpose and dimm it later. This way you kill a certain amount of detail in the finished render. And yeah ... i know that it takes more time, but in night shots you should aim for 99,8 Quality 3. There is always a way to get rid of this noise crap ;-) Sure, i know the downside but believe me, my heart is always bleeding when i see beautiful art "destroyed" by a lack of time :-( Maybe it gets easier with your next computer upgrade :-)

OZ

A lot of new/great stuff coming our way. The new game mechanic sounds interesting - I always thought a game within a game was clever and under appreciated... Looking forward to this. 260 images! Wow, that sounds like a lot of time behind a computer screen. We appreciate the dedication, just remember to get up and walk around , stay hydrated, slap someone's ass, whatever it takes to remain upright and clear-headed. ;)

McFly

Haha, true! :P Mostly what I remember the noise was on images with mirrors in them. Like in the extras changing room, you can notice the ear and hair of the mom is sharp just fine, but the reflection remains noisy. Those are 6-7000 iteration images with 98%+ convergence. (Not that it matters much) But the point is, it bothers me too, but it's not worth going back. Also, noise in the night scenes. Those are 100% converged. That's low light environment for you.(But I'm sure you know) In an evening scene with mom I've been experimenting with pumping more lumens into the scene and adjusting back the brightness with exposure and ISO setting in tone mapping, with some amount of success, although it not nearly perfect. But to answer the question, I barely have time to finish everything for EP2 :D

Lewdlab

But on the other side ... the water never falls the same way out of the shower :-P joking ;-)

OZ

Na ...- that would be nonsense ... with 0.1 you set the base for everything comming. Its absolutely logical to re-use everything possible. But... did you have time to rerender the noisy images?

OZ

135 in the main build. And some of the images will be reused of course, like the main character having a shower. (Did not see a point in making a new image about that)

Lewdlab

Reading it again ... 260 images sounds extreme ... how big was ep one?

OZ

Thanks for the comments and enthusiasm as always :)

Lewdlab

Wow thats really HUGE. Thanks for the Info SIN. As always, a joy to read :-D

OZ

This is going to be good! Can't wait!

DeMello

Wow! There comes an awesome Ep2 to us.
