Am I correct in thinking that?
Awinita most closely resembles a druid in D&D. Nature and spirit based, it seems natural to make this character Native American
I believe that Native Americans are criminally underrepresented not just in media but also in life --Seriously, look up how badly the US government has and continues to fuck over Native Americans, it's horrible-- and it's disappointing that there aren't more characters with that culture to explore.
The iconography of Awinita was tricky. I can only imagine how frustrating it must be for a native person to see themselves constantly represented by such a small range of iconography. It's like, "YES, feathers. YES, face-paint"... To be fair, there were fairly consistent design choices across the continent, so I get why characters coming from that culture have a limited pool of iconography and symbols to draw from.
Still, motifs exist for a reason and I wanted to keep her look streamlined, both for economy of effort and for a look that is slightly different than what I've seen before. More tactical than ceremonial,
She magically connects to the world around her and uses her technology to sync herself with nature.
