Hey everyone,
A bit of a different update here. As you may or may not know I've been overhauling some of the world generation system and assets. I thought I'd put out an experimental update to get some feedback before I move onto overhauling the Outback Canyons and adding the new biome. This version of the game contains only the Mystical Forest biome.
I am interested in the performance, visual and gameplay implications of these changes. So please do leave your feedback
Thank you for all the support and I hope you enjoy the game :)

Changelog
Gameplay
Trees now fracture into pieces when their leaves are removed.
Better tree health. Their health no longer resets when a piece splits off.
Small voxel physics objects are now automatically picked up by the player when they are walked over
World
New Voxel PCG System
Rocks now generate in clusters
Rocks/logs etc can now spawn under tree canopies
Logs now align with the terrain
Improved vegetation cluster placement
New Oak Trees
New Dead Trees/Logs
New Plants: Fern, Cover, Burdock
Physics
Floating voxel pieces that are too small to make a voxel object will now turn into particles instead of disappearing.
Rendering
DLSS Support
DLSS Frame Generation Support
Misc
Vegetation overlapping with subtractive voxel edits such as digging now check the over they are resting on rather than just being removed
Reduced the amount of time some ai will pursue a hostile after losing sight of them
Further improved game thread performance
Fixes
Fixed missing control hint for up/down building offset
Fixed nav mesh data gather stuttering
Comments
thanks for the feedback. performance on the CPU side should get faster over time as I make more improvements. I don't know how much GPU performance will improve the GTX 1070 will remain the minimum target hardware.

2024-12-15 22:33:52 +0000 UTCI receive similar performance with an RX 480 (8gb) + 5 5500 (Thought I'd mention just to help give an idea of minimum specs on AMD hardware). I was curious if you're planning on releasing an update that improves performance/adds more customizable display and graphic settings? I checked the Roadmap and there wasn't any mention, but I thought I'd ask anyways because that seems like a more under-the-radar change. Love the game btw, one of the best games I've played in a while.

2024-12-10 00:59:13 +0000 UTCI recently tried digging a tunnel too, and it was so cool! Gave me so many ideas for a base of operations.

2024-12-09 18:55:30 +0000 UTCPerformance (FPS AVG): 0.10.0: ~30FPS, dips slightly when leaves are removed (expected) 0.9.1: ~32 FPS, dips slightly when leaves are removed (expected) With a GTX 1070 + i7 9700k + 16 GB DDR4 RAM (~3200MHz) Improvements: * Automatically picking up smaller voxel clumps is a good QOL change * Fractured pieces make tree-cutting slightly less tedious * New rock formations and placements add some nice realism * Dead trees add some nice realism Criticism: * Trees are a bit too thin and tangled, their branches should be slightly fewer and should be slightly thicker & longer * Trees are generally too small, resulting in the biome looking like an overgrown meadow rather than a forest, even more than before. I suggest that the trees should be a hybrid between the old and new models * The new plant types add some nice variety but make the ground look slightly messy

2024-12-09 11:22:29 +0000 UTCWoah, this is all super cool! I do like all these additions, and I don't mean to diminish that when I ask, are you planning on adding cave generation? Last update I dug a giant tunnel for a few hours just because it was fun, I think if there were some caves it would be really cool!
