How to Install
Download the files attached on this post
Place the downloaded files into the folder where you want to install the game.
Double click LayOfTheLand_0.8.1_Installer.bat (if a Windows Defender Smart Screen window pops up, just click "More info" and then "Run anyway". If you're worried, you can see the code of the bat file by right clicking it and clicking edit to open it in notepad. The bat file is just extracting the zip files for you)

Open the LayOfTheLand_0.8.1 folder
Double click LayOfTheLand.exe

thanks for the kind words :) currently you can only find copper/steel tools in chests, yes skeletons attacking eachother is intentional, I know copper for tools is not realistic its an aesthetic choice, the bear trap falling through the ground is a known bug, you can mouse over runes and it will tell you how to use them, rain probably wont ever put out fire due to technical complexity, the shovel is used for dirt/gravel/sand and the hammer for stone. there was never a pickaxe in the public game. you can make paths by selecting the option in the build menu when holding gravel/dirt etc. deers only flee when attacked and bears only attack the player when attacked but will attack deers/crawlers on sight.

2024-11-12 22:34:09 +0000 UTCHi Tooley, First of all, thank you for your work on Lay of the Land—the game is incredibly innovative and immersive, a true sandbox experience for 15-30+ players. I see great potential here, similar to the success of Manor Lords, another game being developed in the early stages by a single developer! Below, I’ve prepared a few questions and suggestions that could help with the game’s development, my quick thoughts after few hours of playing: Crafting list: Are you planning to publish a complete list of craftable items so players can better plan their gameplay? Also, are there recipes for copper weapons and armor, or can they only be found in chests? Currently, I am not sure what can be produced and what is not listed, because, for example, the material has not been discovered by me. I tried producing copper arrows, without success. Skeleton AI: I’ve noticed that skeletons attack each other when one is hit by another’s arrow. Is this intentional? It’s a great feature that adds a dynamic element, but I’m curious if it was planned. Copper weapons: In reality, copper is too soft to be used for weapons. Would it be better to replace it with steel to enhance the game’s realism? Bear trap bug: When crafting a bear trap, it falls through the textures. This might be worth checking. Runes information: For new players, a book or FAQ in the menu explaining how runes and other items work, would be really helpful. Rain and fires: I’ve noticed that rain currently doesn’t extinguish fires on trees and grass. Are you planning to implement this feature? Pickaxe and shovel: Has the shovel replaced the pickaxe? I also couldn’t find the path painting feature, which I saw in earlier gameplay videos. Anvil crafting idea: A suggestion for weapon crafting: metal rod + stick, where the rod is made from a steel block on an anvil. Animals: Deer don’t seem to be skittish, and perhaps bears could only attack when provoked? The game is shaping up to be even more fantastic. I’m rooting for its success and eagerly looking forward to future updates! BR Philip

2024-11-01 05:13:17 +0000 UTCIs there a good place to ask specifics about how your water works? I noted some interesting behaviors and characteristics. I also adore the 3D falling sands feel to the granular materials like sand and gravel. That blew me away.

2024-10-31 00:56:43 +0000 UTCI found a bug where the Bear Trap cannot be placed on the ground, making or dropping it will cause it to penetrate the ground and never find it again
