Rejected Stuff and Hi

Hello flamingos,

How are you? This won't be Patreon related, I'm just here to waste your precious time for a few minutes.

So, I've collected up the best (relatively speaking...) of the worst stuff that didn't make it into the new book and attached it below if you're curious. Apologies for typos or poems that just trail off into nothing. They all felt like fun ideas at the time, but turned out to be, in fact, crap. It'd be way easier if a little demon or sprite popped out of the closet halfway through writing something down and said, "Listen friend, that's bullshit. Why not go out for a burrito instead?" It was quite nice to have a hiatus from scifi anyway. Things are so much easier to work on when you're not supposed to be working on them.

I can promise new stuff is coming shortly, but I'd quite like to get it right first. The attempt at a comedy-set-on-a-spaceship thing is turning out to be a bit trickier than I first thought, but finally getting finished up. I'm rather excited to show you what my wonderful designer has come up with for the illustrations in any case. If everything goes well, there will be unicorns. Not sure why that reads like a threat. (A huge thank you for your help a few months ago with the project, of course.)

Two recommendations that might appeal, I don't know, but they were just such a treat on this side. One of my favourite physicists, Carlo Rovelli, wrote a book of musings about physics, philosophy, Dante, and pretty much everything else called There Are Places in the World Where Rules Are Less Important than Kindness - which is a great title for starters, no? It's an easy read and is gorgeously written - there's a section on 3-spheres that explains them better than I've ever seen it done elsewhere. Also, Drunk: How We Slipped, Danced, and Stumbled Our Way to Civilization by Edward Slingerland - a rather surprisingly academic take on why humans still like getting messed up despite it being terrible for our health. Both were food for thought anyway. Oh, and this turned up in the new series of White Lotus. I've given up trying not to listen to it ten times a day. There's a bit near the end where it goes all techno and my brain fizzes.

Massive love as always, hope you're doing all right - new stuff coming when it's the least terrible it can be, promise,

I read your book many times in my quick stay in rehab. I even read a few of them out loud in group. Especially Saintly... that was a bit on the nose for a few of us. Thanks for helping a lost soul out.

Hello cybernetic Robot pal, You know, I think I stopped at The Goblet of Fire years ago, but I remember The Prisoner of Azkaban being an absolute banger, the time travel shenanigans and all. Ayyyysh, sorry to hear about the health stuff, Christmas is objectively the worst time to be feeling poorly - hope things are improving soon. I'm heavily inclined to agree on your thoughts about winter there. 93....servers....? That is objectively a lot of Discord. I'm sure the Kurzgesagt team would be absolutely blown away to hear about it, have you thought about reaching out to them? Anyway, massive love as always my man, hope you're doing swell.

This is the best I am for

Hi Dennis - lovely to hear from you too. Oh, thanks for giving my stuff a read, that's much appreciated. So, I'm not sure I can recommend any of my own stuff, but Children of Time by Adrian Tchaikovsky, it's fantastic.

Ahhh you're ever so kind, thanks Gurumaru. And currently working on a bit of a longer project about creativity and getting the blues for the second channel at the moment, should be up in a week - promise. Cheers again!

Hellooo, glad to hear from you again, Tortoise individual with a body that depicts the vast, terrifying but beautiful depths of space! ^_^ Your recommendations hath been added to their appropriate lists. I am also listening to Ciao Ciao on repeat as I type this 😅 - it feels like one of those generic pop songs that you can't help but listen to. Thank you as always for that. I haven't got any myself (except Harry Potter - I've set out to finish them and am currently halfway through Goblet of Fire) - but update on me...? Pretty awful January and December - I've been regularly unwell for unknown reasons since the beginning of 2021 and these several months have been quite infuriating in that regard. I'm getting regular health appointments but the only thing that's shown up is a Vitamin D deficiency. Aside from that? The current theory is an itolerance towards egg. Not to mention that waking up seems to always make me feel incredibly groggy. In conclusion? I hate Winter... with a PASSION 👿 Aside from that? I'm working on a project with a friend to make a website to easily find all of the Kurzgesagt Discord servers. These servers were created to help likeminded nice people meet up irl. We found 93 servers across the globe so far. Exciting stuff! And speaking of excitment, I am excited for your future stuff. It sounds super interesting as usual!! All the very best. Your pal Robot 💛 ^_^

That didn't feel like a waste of time.

Nice to hear from you again! I recently read your book the fifth science and it was fucking incredible. I love to dive down in your worlds and just forget everything for a moment. I'm still not sure which book I'll tackle next from you. Any book you would recommend you think turned out really good?

Clouthe

I'm waiting for my final exams this semester to end so I can finally sit down without guilt and read the new book. Both previous ones are sitting comfortably on my shelf and were an absolute blast, so I'm really excited. Also are some new Catastrotivity episodes coming by any chance? Not to force them of course, that's against the whole idea 😌

All I will aim for from this day on is to make stuff better than poo. Thanks for following my stuff, Keltan - big love

I started the book a few days ago when things were feeling quite poo. I finished it two days later feeling much less like poo and a lot more like a collection of particles. Which was a hell of a lot better than poo. Excited to read the rejects!
