Well hello, you scallywags.
I’ve been waiting for this day a long time indeed. I am extremely excited to announce that after years of cursing at a keyboard, and months of proofreading, that the book is out. And attached below in mobi, epub, and PDF format for your entertainment.
As mentioned in today’s video, this would not have been possible with your support, and I’ve dedicated the book to all of you concerned. (If I’ve carelessly missed you out, please drop me a line, and I’ll amend the book dedication itself.)
It’s been a long road getting here. Something starts in your mind as the germ of an idea, and you let it grow a bit. Before you know it, it’s just begging to get out, so you sit down one day to plan a book. This’ll be easy, you think. How hard is book-ing anyway? Quite, as it turns out. It is possible to believe in your work for a day. Two days is pushing it. Four years is really stretching the thing thin. What largely kept me going was the emails some of you send occasionally, asking for more stuff. The fear of disappointing kind strangers on the internet, it turns out, is more than adequate to get a novel out there.
Putting books out is, to be honest, fucking terrifying. You throw lots of yourself in there without meaning to, and you make some attempt at originality, and for all you know it might be awful. I mean, you hope it isn’t, but...well....
Anyway I do hope it’s up your street.
One more item of business and housekeeping. You may’ve noticed I’ve switched the Patreon schedule to ‘per video’. This isn’t in some sly attempt to extract more money from you, it was simply a product of finishing the book. I haven’t had the time to focus on much else and I knew damn well that not giving it absolute attention would relegate it to the thousand and one other plans we all have, but do very little about. I was hardly going to take last month’s donations when I hadn’t put anything else out since the beginning of January. I’m in the middle of writing my university thesis currently, so video output may be a little slow in the coming weeks. Please do bear with me. If you would like to edit your pledge accordingly, that’s absolutely fine – and I would entirely understand.
What else is new, besides certain presidents? Snow. Still lots of it in Bulgaria. Safe to say its novelty wore off months ago. I’ve been listening quite a bit to podcasts in the evenings, namely the Joe Rogan Experience, which I’m a fanatical lover of, and Radiolab, which I suggest every human checks out. Dan Carlin’s Hardcore History, and This American Life are also superb.
I bought some socks. With spots on. Scintillating, no?
All the best to you chaps/chapettes, and I hope you enjoy the book. For the last and, presumably, overdone time, it wouldn’t exist without you.
May you be living somewhere snowless, interesting, and with access to such sartorial wonders as spotty socks.
Ex.
