Illustration #126 + rewards and some extra doodles!

Happy February everyone, I hope you're all doing great. :) I painted a goblin girl this time around, I hope you like her! This painting started out without a solid thumbnail sketch, so if you check out the process video you'll see the scene kinda morphed or gradually evolved throughout the process. I would normally say that's not ideal, but I'm pretty happy with where it landed in the end, and I got to do some small experiments and had some ideas about my workflow that way that I otherwise might not have had, so I'm kinda happy it went that way. :)

Check out the rewards in the attachments! You can also always find them in the rewards collection post, alongside all other past rewards you might have missed!

The doodles this time also have some experimentation in them that has been useful. Last month I talked about sketching with very simple thin lines and briefly touched on the advantages of that. The doodles here use thicker lines again. I kinda go back and forth in my recent experimentation to feel out the advantages and disadvantages of each. I do feel like the thicker lines make for prettier sketches I guess, and they do feel easier to draw, maybe just because I have more practice with that mark making technique. But the thick lines also result in sketches that are harder to continue into paintings. When I paint over the edges I often inadvertently grow or shrink forms without realizing it, and that's not a problem with thinner lines. Maybe you can tell I'm still a bit torn about how I wanna sketch lol. I gotta keep experimenting I guess, and see what happens. :)

I'll stop rambling about that now! Thanks for supporting my paintings and drawings, as well as my efforts to experiment and grow my skills. I'm always very glad I can spend my time doing this. ๐Ÿ˜„

Demon ladies are fun, for sure! ๐Ÿ˜„

Thank you! There isn't really that much new going on with the brushes I use compared to previous ones I've shared. I've been enjoying using very simple hard round brushes a lot lately, very similar to the ones called Basic in the default Digital tag. If I use ones later that are more interesting I'll try to make sure I share those. :)

Hey thanks! Happy to hear the PSDs are helpful for you. :) The reason I fill Hard Light/Linear Light/Overlay layers with 50% grey is because it's otherwise difficult to pick accurate colors from the layer with the color picker set to pick only from the current layer. When there's transparency the color picker will pick the fully opaque color, which won't give the right result when painting with it on those layers. For the same reason I might sometimes fill Multiply and Linear Burn layers with pure white or Linear Dodge and Screen layers with pure black before working on those, just to name a few examples. It's useful for any blending mode where a specific color has no effect.

Glad to hear you enjoy the painting and the doodles, Ciarรกn! The purple woman you like was kind of just the result of messing around, with no real thought put into the character design. So I don't currently have plans for her, but who knows! One day I might look back at some doodles and it could spark an idea. That's one of the fun things about doing these doodles, I sometimes look back at them and think "Hey I had forgot I drew this, I kinda like it!" ๐Ÿ˜„

Lmao, they do seem to be shortstacks a lot of the time, you're not wrong! I'm glad you like the art. ๐Ÿ˜„

Hey Calm, Love your stuff as always. I really enjoy going through your psd files they help me a ton with my workflow struggles :D I don't know if this has been already asked or not, but I've wondered if there is a particular reason why you fill in your hard light lighting layers completely with grey? I know the 50% grey is invisible in that blending mode but wouldn't the effect be the same by just painting in the shadows without filling in the layer? Or am i missing something? Anyways, thank you and you always boost my motivation to work on my art whenever you post :)

Ah, a very green painting this month! ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’š Well, before getting to that. Love the pink demon girl in the doodles, the one who is leaning forward with her lovely butt in the air and gorgeous breasts hanging down. The rendering on her whole body is lovely and gives her lean muscles a great sense of volume. And I do like the purple hair and the way the tips of her horns smoothly blend into a similar purple colour. And the image with the more purple demon girl in multiple poses is fantastic too! I particularly love her in the pose where she's sitting back, big smile on her face, great foreshortening on her arms and legs. The lighting on her there is so good too, illuminating her whole body and letting her chest really contrast with the shadows on her arms. Also... her breasts as they spread out across her chest are just wonderfully painted ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿฅฐ The purple lady with the bullseye on her chest is very interesting and fun. I love her smirk and raised eyebrow, her expression is such cheeky fun. I particularly like that one strand of hair that falls between her eyes which make her look extra sexy. The colour and lighting on her skin is really lovely too, with it being a cooler purple on her right side but then receiving this magenta glow on her left. Definitely wouldn't mind seeing this lady in a full painting, she has the look of a very sexy, older lady and her colours definitely appeal to me... also the size of her areolas are especially nice ๐Ÿ˜น๐Ÿ˜ป As for the main piece, wow, if she's a goblin then I think I like goblins ๐Ÿ˜น Looking at the whole scene, I really like how you've handled the background. The foreground is poppy and colourful, with the scene steadily fading and tinting blue as it recedes into the background. Of course, every element is beautifully detailed, those giant, twisting rock formations that reach into the sky are brilliantly done. And I like that blue bird just chilling on the rock too, he's a lot of fun ๐Ÿ˜ธ And it's nice to see the mix of warm and cool tones, with the blue-green water weaving through the warmer, sandy colours of the ground. The phallic rock formations are certainly... an interesting regional phenomena ๐Ÿ˜น The strange, mossy, sea-weed looking foliage that's around the characters looks great too, with the way it all curls, meanders and overlaps itself, with a lot of detail to it. The male character is super well painted as always and I like the lighting on him. The bright, white lighting hitting him from the front and blending back into his green skin is really nicely done. The detail and rendering of his muscles is great. I especially like those hard edges that really give it that firm definition, like where his oblique is separated from the hip below. The lady is just... hooo boy... Firstly, her colours are really fun, with this warm, yellowish-green skin contrasting strongly with her vibrant pink hair. Secondly, her outfit is a super sexy design. I love her twisting "bra" with the straps wrapping over and under her breasts, framing them as they sensually hang and overlap the material. Her underwear is also a very sensual design, with the tight material sinking into her skin and squeezing her bare butt. The detail on the bra is so good too, there's multiple colours blended in, I enjoy the textures to it and the detail where the fabric overlaps and twists around itself is terrific. I do also like her little adornments, like the stars on her neck and chest, as well as her golden necklade and shiny jewel. Her expression looks great as well with an intense look in her eyes and and getting the face right with her head at that angle is super impressive! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘ The lighting on her hair is wonderful too, with bright white rim-lights on top, contrasting with the darkest shadows on the hair that sinks behind her right arm/shoulder. And I really like the bright white rim-lighting hitting her body from her left side, with her front and right sides shrouded in shadow, with cool blue rim-lighting on her arm and thigh. You did an amazing job on the rendering and textures of her body too, her thighs are so voluptuous and I just love the way her breasts spill out over her "bra". Their shaping, rendering and posing are perfectly sensual and the shadows and soft rim-lighting on them really accentuate their volumes and the way they overlap. And I'm going to stop there because I've really let the length of this comment run away on me ๐Ÿ˜น๐Ÿ˜… Suffice to say, brilliant work on this one! The atmosphere, colours, overall scene are all fantastic! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘ And if we can get the purple milf from the doodles as the centrepiece of a scene... or just explored more in more doodles/sketches, that'd be pretty darned sweet! ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ˜น

Goblin girls are shortstacks! I demand a redo!!! ๐Ÿ˜‚ But seriously, this is phenomenal. Green skin is so damn hard to do. And as always, you make it look easy. Thanks for the awesome art

Those demon girls on the sketches, specially the purple-ish one looks GREAT! i really like it. The main Illustration is quite nice, i like the color of the skin, the scenography in general is quite nice, and well the action is also very good. As usual, really nice work! congrats on another good piece.
