Illustration #106 + doodles, 3D experiments, brushes!

WIP images   Short time lapse   Long time lapse   PSD file   Brushes

Hey! Here's some more stuff I've been working on lately! Still making an effort to get more comfortable posting unfinished work and doodles here, lol. I hope you guys like it.

These past couple of months I've been having a lot of fun playing around with a more textured painterly look in my work. I'm still a little bit on the fence about how much I want to lean into that, but it's been interesting.

When I work with brushes that create smooth surfaces and gradients I often feel like I'm struggling a bit to reach a level of detail I feel is acceptable, so the textured painterly brushes I've been using have helped introduce some of that accidental detail that make surfaces look finished a bit more quickly. I like that. Maybe I've mentioned it before as well, but I do feel a little bit unsure about the textured look for erotic paintings. Textured brush strokes look nice, but I keep asking myself "Do they help make things hot?" Looking nice and looking hot are slightly different things, after all. I guess it's a matter of personal taste, but going too textured can sort of work against the hotness of it for me. I'll keep working on it and try to figure out where I wanna go with it.

I've attached some of those painterly Paintstorm brushes I've been using recently if you wanna try them. I'm afraid they don't work in other software, as far as I'm aware. Sorry about that!

You can also see in one of the pictures here that I've been messing around a bit with 3D again. I bought a new VR headset recently so I could give Substance 3D Modeler a proper try. Sculpting in VR feels really nice and intuitive, so for me, as someone who dislikes when my workflow feels too technical, it kinda works well for blocking in scenes that I can paint over or just use as reference. I'm not really at a point where I'd want to commit to it as a part of my painting process, but it's fun to experiment with it, and the 3D+2D workflow does allow me to achieve camera angles and lighting in my paintings I doubt I'd ever be able to pull off with my regular purely 2D painting workflow, so it has some real benefits to it there that I'd have loved to make more use of.

I'm hoping I can maybe show off the VR sculpting workflow a little bit eventually in some time lapse videos, but it is a little bit more of a pain to record than regular painting, so we'll see, lol.

Anyway, I hope you're all doing fantastic. Thanks for your support, it's a great way to  help me explore and improve. I'm really grateful for that. :)

Comments

Thank you for replying. I did actually realise after commenting that your setup is actually in the video and I was able to replicate it. All the same thanks again, I will check out the link and compare! Keep up the good work, it might sound weird but your work got me back into drawing again!

Cero

Thanks! It's a file I made myself after seeing Jama Jurabaev do something similar a few years back. Feel free to use it. :) I guess I should have attached it in this post too, but you can find it in the attachments in this other post: https://www.patreon.com/posts/illustration-99-74363574 You'll need both the blend file and the equirectangular grid jpg file there.

Calm

Dude, that usage of using blender to create your perspective lines is genius. Did you create the blend file yourself and/or is is something that could be purchased?

Cero

That dude's amazing, nutting that much and still ready to satisfy ๐Ÿฅต

Griffin Barrows

PLEASE paint the Anubis scene!

JimmyJayJohn

Thank you calm.

Gregory Antoine

Thank you, Kite! ๐Ÿ˜„

Calm

I'm glad to hear you like it!

Paintstorm Studio is the software I use. ๐Ÿ‘ Part of its strength is that it has a powerful brush engine with a lot of unique brush settings, but it does mean there is no brush compatibility with other software, at least that I'm aware of. Sorry about that.

Calm

Yeah, it's a really nice piece of software! I hope you like the brushes :)

Calm

Happy to hear you like it ๐Ÿ˜„

Calm

Thank you!

Calm

Thank you! It's fun to hear you appreciate seeing the process. :)

Calm

Thanks! Are you still having download issues? What happens when you try?

Calm

Thanks, I'm glad you think so!

Calm

Lol, I'm glad you like it!

Calm

Thanks ๐Ÿ˜„

๐Ÿ‘

Calm

Yeah, kind of. I try to do the broad strokes first with textured brushes, and then I punch in the sharp details and highlights afterwards.

Calm

Thank you!

Calm

It probably won't be finished unfortunately, but I'm glad you like it!

Calm

Thank you!

Calm

This first picture aaaaah Some good!

TheKite

Hi, thank you so much for these awesome stuff :-)

John Storm

Which software can read this .pstbrush file?

Lucas Sperandio Werner

OMG Brushes for Paintstorm!! I'm so excited to try them out. I wish more people used this program because it's so so good... and then we can have more resources like this.

SakiaLumei

I love it! And I especially love that you're posting more of your sketches :D

AVN

Love your work as usual.

Zazo

Honestly love this! Its so great to see your process in all parts of your illustrations <3

Nakoo

I canยดt download the WIP. Good work as always. Thanks.

Just a quick addendum. I'm putting this here as it's easier to find than hidden among my stupid, long comment ๐Ÿ˜… The v2 painting, with all of the goop, is a low-res version. Is there not a "FullRes" version of that one? (I do find it funny that I now consider 1080p to be low resolution ๐Ÿ˜น)

Oh my, this is quite the naughty and striking scene! ๐Ÿ˜ธ๐Ÿ˜ธ๐Ÿ˜ธ Before I get to it, personally, I really like textured, painterly rendering. In this painting, I think you've struck a really great balance with it, things like the skin look both textured while still being smooth and sexy. When you zoom in, you get all of that lovely texture, when zoomed out, the ladies still look perfectly smooth, with that same level of painterly-ness that I've always enjoyed in your style. Now, looking at the overall scene, I really like what you've done with the lighting and colours. There's a great contrast/balance with the top of the scene being hit with this cool, white light shining through the windows, while the centre of the images and our characters are bathed in a lovely, warm glow. I love the way the white light interacts with the stone floor and wooden furniture. The texture and blending just looks gorgeous, especially on the right-hand table and bench which also has that strong, warm light on the opposite side. The overall wood texture looks terrific, same with the plants and their vases and I do like how the bright light glows through the windows. The perspective and angle of the scene looks very interesting too, with the way things curve as we look down on them. Overall, the scene looks gorgeous, terrific textures, beautiful lighting with vibrant colours ๐Ÿ˜ป๐Ÿ˜ป๐Ÿ˜ป The three ladies all look absolutely stunning and I love their poses. The redhead and the elf look so dynamic with their foreshortening and the accentuated curving motion of their bodies as they lean forward. Super sexy too with their ample bosoms pushed out ๐Ÿ’œ With the redhead, I really like how her bra wraps around her breasts, framing her cleavage and even squeezing the breasts, almost making it seem like they could burst out. For the elf, I love the tease with her looser bra hanging forward, letting us see down into her cleavage. And both of them have gorgeous hairstyles, I do especially like the asymmetry of the redheads hair, how it sweeps to one side, swirling as it falls down across her back. The rendering and colours of both of these women look so amazing too. With the redhead, I like how she has these cool shadows across much of her hair, face and body, making the parts of her face and breasts that are warmly lit really stand out. At this angle, I love the downward view of her shoulder and the way it locks into her arm. The blend of cool and warm tones down her arm looks so nice too, same with her hair. On her face and breasts, the white edge-lighting looks really nice, making those features pop and accentuating the overlap of her breasts. Something else I love is that reddish glow across her bra and breasts too, giving this really vibrant warmth to that area โค๏ธ Her smiling expression is lovely too, she looks so seductive and sexy as she looks up at our lucky guy and I just love the juicy sheen of her lips too. Her outfit has really great volume to it and the mix of white and red lighting into the black really gives it that vibrant look. As for the elf, tanned skin and white hair is always a fantastic combo ๐Ÿค๐Ÿงก The sheen of her hair is beautiful, I especially like where it falls down behind her face, with edge-lighting popping against the shadows. The edge-lighting on her face is also so striking too, creating this nice divide between her warm skin tones and the shadows on the hair. The lighting on the face is so gorgeous, with shadows across her front planes, framed by the white edge-lighting on one side and a warmer glow on the other. The reddish hues mixed into parts of her face add even more to that vibrancy. I adore the rendering of her breasts too, I have to say that the painterly textures add to the hotness for me. Especially here with those white edge-lights and shadows all accentuating these lovely shapes and making them pop. The white lighting and red glow on both the breasts and her bra again make the whole area look so vibrant and sexy. With both characters, all of the interactions where skin touches clothes or characters touch each other are so well done. The way fingers indent into skin, creating these contact shadows as well as highlights on the skin that's now being pushed into, it all looks fantastic, seriously, it blows my mind how good it looks ๐Ÿ˜ป๐Ÿ˜ป๐Ÿ˜ป And while we don't see much of our fella, what is here is as well painted as everything else. Looking at everyone's hands, there's so much detail, little colour shifts towards tips of fingers and even veins pushing through the skin. I do also like his shirt too, rippling clothing folds are my jam and these are very nice too. I've saved my favourite until last, the piece-de-resistance, our dark-haired lady in the centre. I utterly love how she is framed and positioned. She looks so sensual as she lays back into her fur-cloak, looking up as her breasts spill out across her chest. The way the warm tones of her smooth breasts are framed against the dark, roughly-textured cloak is a perfect contrast and really makes them pop! ๐Ÿ˜ป๐Ÿ˜ป๐Ÿ˜ป I love the shapes of her stomach too, where you see the firm definition of her abs with the skin still looking so smooth and sensual. Her spreading thighs look gorgeous as well, especially where the skin is squeezed by other characters' hands. The fur cloak looks terrific, the textured brushes really give the tips of it that soft look and I love where the white light blends into it. The warm bounce-light where the cloak contacts her skin is a really lovely, subtle detail too. Her black hair looks beautiful as it sweeps around behind her, with those bright, white lights being a great contrast. Her expression is so sexy too with her flushed, rosy red cheeks and beads of sweat dripping down her. The way she purses her lips, makes it look like she's quickly breathing out, maybe even panting. The shine of the lips and blending of even warmer tones into the lower lip makes them look so juicy too. And the wispy strands of black hair curling in over her face just look so freaking hot to me ๐Ÿ–ค๐Ÿ–ค๐Ÿ–ค All of her body is beautifully rendered, again with that perfect blend of smoothness and texture. I know that sounds contradictory but I don't know how else to phrase it ๐Ÿ˜น I just love the white shine across her stomach and thigh where the skin is pushed up by other characters. Her midsection is just beautiful to me, I love the plane changes across her waist and stomach. And her breasts, hoo boy.... Their shapes, the way they spread out to the side, the warm colours and beads of sweat wrapping over them, all of it is hot beyond description. And her nipples too are lovely, I really do feel like the texture makes them look even sexier, especially with the shine-spots on them. (And of course, all of the goop in v2 looks great with how it wraps over her body, further defining her wonderful features) Absolutely terrific work on this piece! Seriously, the lighting, colours, the atmosphere of the scene and the way the characters are framed and posed are excellent. The central lady has to be one of the hottest that you've ever painted and I do believe that the textured, painterly style makes the ladies even sexier. I also need more lovely ladies being laid out against fur cloaks, the way that looks is just too good ๐Ÿ˜ป๐Ÿ˜ป๐Ÿ˜ป๐Ÿ˜ป๐Ÿ˜ป Again, utterly sensational job here! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

Just stellar work, as one would expect.

FaceMustache

I LOVE all of these, but the 3D test evokes the following scene for me: "Sir, please let me take your hand and I shall lead you from the Temple Prison..." "... That's not my hand..." "I don't mind if you don't..."

Epimetheus

Im barely learning my own style and you out here! Kicking ass with 3d now lol

Beast

WIP/shorter stuff is great

A

I imagine the texture brush when used correctly would be great, but if you're doing wet skin you wouldn't want to use it and destroy the tight highlights?

Grumpy Guy

Also, i love your doodles!

Nishant Thelakkat

I love this!!! Gorgeous work!!

Nishant Thelakkat

Oh, that minotaur/Anubis(?) one looks spicy.

TankCatapult
