WTF is Lil Nas X Doing?! ("Hotbox", "Dreamboy", "Right There" music video reactions)

Comments

He dropped a new song everyday leading up to a highly anticipated single

Faith

the first song felt very on brand

Charlie

I like that he makes different vibes

Ericka Lewis

Chorus giving Pharrell and verse giving Nicki

Ericka Lewis

Why was I at this part when reading your comment 😭 Mans needs to lock in on his ‘eras’. He’s got it down aesthetically, but his discography has to start matching or else it’ll be hard to define his sound(s), growth and audience(s) as an artist.

0lldsoull

It’s so funny I have saw it a few times and it cracks me up every time it’s Dee’s reaction and facial expressions

Jackdeel

Hi sorry I hadn’t saw this and just found the notification u obviously don’t like Nicki but some context lil nas has been mentioning Nicki for months she has been ignoring him he clearly is trying to use her for clout as do a lot of artists ❤️

Jackdeel

imma be honest it got progressively worse for me with every song 😭😭😭😭 the last song was the final straw! i feel like i would get whiplash trying to listen to the full project because everything was so strange

gigu

I think hes on drugs, not joking

Skyra Cosmos

Multiple personalities 😂😂😂 idk if this is an album or he just putting out music for the sake of it. This is not a typical role out.

Cesar R🇩🇴

Lmaoooo sksks I was so weak my bad. But at least you heard the song you came for.

BruhItsRodrick

Oh my

Dee Shanell

Period 🤣

Dee Shanell

He confuses me lol

Dee Shanell

The constant changing of personalities/sounds was throwing me off 😂 I tried to replay Hotbox, I can't get past the hook lol

Dee Shanell

ROFLMFAOOOO @ your confusion doing the spelling of "DREAM". Had to let that out. I actually liked the first 2. Might add those to my playlist. His rap was rapping though.

Muffinz Okuurr

Dee’s face at the last songg😂

Josh B

Yeah I agree. I don’t think it’s so much of him being gay but just him making a mockery of certain things. I guess you could say Lady Gaga and Madonna “mocked” religion but their art spoke WAY more volumes than whatever symbolisms they had or appreciation as some would call it.

Joshua Lewis

I think that’s the problem with his music now. It’s not terrible but this isn’t a sound that he came out with; had he come out with this song when he dropped old town road and dropped bits and pieces here and there, then today we could be like “Hmmm he’s doing this sound that he did before” but to do a FULL 360 for your audience is a big risk because some people are so used to hearing your original sound, they don’t want to hear anything else. I thought he sounded like Doja in some songs 😂 The music isn’t that bad but if somebody played this for me and didn’t tell me it was Lil Nas X, I would bop to it a bit more 🤣 I need to listen to it without knowing this is him to like it a bit more.

Joshua Lewis

😂😂😂

Art

Which hurt his career. Dude literally slid on a stripper pole to hell and the devil a lap dance then his resent attempt to comeback he trolled God again. At the end of the day his record company pushed him and didn't get the proper ROI. They thought him being so overtly gay would be profitable but the music didn't connect. I guess he has a core fanbase and that's cool but dude isn't going to be mainstream to the level they wanted him to be.

M9

Okay, this comment I have to disagree with. He barely even talked about his sexuality himself, it was always others bringing it up and making a big deal out of it. He barely ever even referenced his sexuality until Montero, and then he trolled a lot to make people upset.

Devron Love

So cool to read all of these perspectives! I honestly really liked this release. More than any of his the music since Industry Baby. I really enjoyed BiG DUMMY & RIGHT THERE the most, but I realized that might be because it sounds the most like HIM.

jason

I kinda figured his career path would be like this. He leaned to much into his sexual orientation anytime he gets any type of publicity it's about other stuff then his music.

M9

Nas saw your Taycan in your LA vlogs and got inspired for the Hotbox vid lmao 😂

Grant Evans

He really likes horns. Ive noticed from a lot of his songs personally.

Kaydance P

I could definitely tell he’s inspired by the different flow switches and voice changes from Nicki Minaj🩷 but he does have to stay true to himself and have some authenticity show through.

BruhItsRodrick

It’s Dee waiting to hear him crave for some dvck sksksksks lmaoooo

BruhItsRodrick

Straight from the YouTube video sksksksk lmaooo

BruhItsRodrick

He’s giving playboy cardi with the voice switch ups💀

Salima

I like the 1st song the best. He lost me with the other 2, but its okay overall. I prefer him over some other male rappers.

Tennessee Love

You brought up a good point, Dee. Artists are always encouraged to be versatile with their sound. However, they have to go about it the right way. It can't be too drastic of a change cause that will cause fans to not check for their music. In the case of Lil Nas X, people have grown to use his sound on his debut album. If he's going to go in a different direction with his sound, he should've released a single that still had that sound from his debut while presenting his new sound.

elliott eclipse

I like the rapping of Hot Box but I really dislike the falsetto hook. They don’t mesh well. Maybe it’s the mixing. And the video just feels outdated, similar to Katy Perry when she tried to make a come-back with her new album. Im not even the biggest fan of his music. I like maybe 2 songs. But he’s super talented and he needs to find a direction for his sound and grow with his audience. Even if he has to hire a team to help him. Edit: Right there is a banger. He should fall back on pop and just release a hip hop album. He’s good at it.

Brooke

Outside of everything you just said, I'm still perplexed at these decisions; Outside of "J Christ" and "Call Me By Your Name"'s music video, the rest of his songs were tame. He had 5 Top 10s with 3 topping the chart. That just leaves me with the question: Why troll to this extent? He already beat the 1 hit wonder allegations, so he obviously has a fan base. I need his team, and himself, to lock in.

Donte

Maybe it’s the pink, but I can hear Nicki on the first song far as the style he’s doing. Overall it seems like he’s just throwing at a wall and seeing what sticks. None of songs are necessarily bad. I just wouldn’t go back to myself.

Tati

If you listen to him often you kinda hear all three these sounds in his other music for sure. But it does come with like listening to him for a while

Eli

The ad lib “ Youre in dream world and listening to dream world” is supposed to be this era This era hes wearing a robo techno outfit calling himself DreamBoy

Hugo

This man sound like Carti, Future and Doja and Andre 3k

Hugo

I understand the criticism about him sounding "different" on each of the tracks but to me I can still tell that its him. (might just be my gaydar going off idk) But I appreciate him approaching beats differently and using multiple styles of rapping or singing. Its refreshing to get an artist like this where I can go into a song/project expecting something very him but also broad in how it sounds. I prefer it over rappers like Travis Scott, 21, or Carti who sound the same on every track, whether its theirs or not no shade!

AlmightyOtaku

I like the songs but all these songs are throw aways… he previewed ALL THESE SONGS the last couple years….

Hugo

That makes sense lol

Dee Shanell

I don’t like being confused either lmao I should not be puzzled listening to an artist I’ve heard many times before and not even being able to identify their voice, it’s odd

Dee Shanell

😂😂

Dee Shanell

X, Y and Z is funny af lmao so accurate though, all these damn personalities is confusing

Dee Shanell

Hey Dee!💕 I hope he listens to the fans/people who tell him this and he stops religion bashing. That one song is what actually dropped his career. But he’s talented and I don’t think he’s a bad person. So goodluck to him!

Shelby

Agreed! I love the blatant gayness of it all 😂 I just want him to focus, he’s trying to do too many things at once. Makes me think of the saying “jack of all trades, master of none”. He could actually get better if he focused on mastering one sound, because he’s definitely talented

Dee Shanell

I would def turn a couple of these off 😂

Dee Shanell

Facts! I hate this for him because he has potential, his team just isn’t focusing on his strengths and developing them. They’re just chasing hits and doing things for shock value

Dee Shanell

Right! How can he expect to put a cohesive concert together that appeals to his fanbase with all these different sounds? Doesn’t make sense

Dee Shanell

Yeah it definitely seems like he’s chasing a hit, rather than just focusing on developing his craft and trying to make good quality music

Dee Shanell

he definitely meant to pay homage to Nicki's Pink Friday era and the superbass vid but why would he need to try and get back on that woman's "good side". Not every single thing is about her..

AlmightyOtaku

It would be hard going to his concert when you like maybe 2-3 songs but then the other half is a whole different genre that you don’t like. He already lost of ton of fans the resurrection video he did of mocking God. Thats what took me out. But if he keeps switching personalities it will be hard to find a solid fanbase.

Shelby

It samples Frontin by him. Really reminds what you said yesterday the sample really only made me want to listen to the original lol

Emmanuel Davies

I wouldn't turn none of these off if they came on but I wouldn't turn them on either 💀 his music is quite forgettable which is interesting because there's so much going on. He's just doing anything and hoping it sticks, it's all over the place

Crissle

i understand wym, tbh i definitely love that song “dolla sign slime” he had with megan the stallion and few other songs with doja cat its called scoop like i live for that raw deep country rooted kind of southern rap kind of music but yeah i initially only liked right there but im glad that despite the odds, you still liked hotbox lol ❤️

FRANK ocean supremacy

Well said

Crissle

I didn’t really mind any of these songs. I know he released a different song everyday for a week, the song I liked the most isn’t one of these ones but a different one I forgot the name of 😂 If I hear these songs, I won’t turn them off, but if I don’t hear them I won’t be upset either.

Devron Love

I saved a few of his songs off his montero album, and the song collaboration he did with league of legends. these songs are okay but not my cup of tea. he is still a very creative, and talented young man! And love seeing a gay black man able to make it in the mainstream! Made history right there!

Arielle

It’s giving “Lil Nas X Dreamboy ft Lil Nas Y & Lil Nas Z” 🤷🏾‍♂️😂😂 But he did warned his fans that he’s in a new era and if you want old Lil Nas X to unfollow him. Which I thought was dumb thing to say but I don’t take him serious he’s literally a beautiful & talented Twitter garb with some bread ns 🤷🏾‍♂️🤷🏾‍♂️ All the songs sound like they have an intro, interlude, & outro merged together. I smoke too much I just can’t and won’t. He’s such a dramatic unauthentic bq

KeepItABuckDummy

the identity crisis on the last song LMAO? the confusion throughout the whole song was SENDINGG me 😭

s.

I liked the first two songs. Dreamboy annoyed and confused the hell out of me😂. I don’t like being confused so I did not like it

Trevion

Haha Jackdeel, Like I watched it just yesterday!! So many comps have been made with that reaction too. 😂💙

Izzyarsenio

Ngl how u feel about him is how I feel about Carti. Carti has a signature sound but also 5 different voices and I can’t go 🥴

Montavio Avery

Dee he just tryna get back into nickis good side it’s weird

Jackdeel

I am crying chun he do u remember when Dee was reacting to something I think it was carbi and the person said that is not Roman that’s ricardo and Dee was cracking up that’s what this gave 😂

Jackdeel

Lil Nas X hasn’t really been doing it for me lately. I seen that he was dropping all of these songs and I just wasn’t interested in listening to them until I seen that you were reacting to them. These songs aren’t bad like you said however, they’re just not for me. I might go listen to the other songs though just to see if there is anything that I’ll at least like a little bit.

Quincy Oppeps

I know lilnas was tryna get back on nicki good side but this pink pool just gave me superbass I don’t know if he ment that or not

Jackdeel

I don’t listen to this man AT ALL but right there…. I like it a lot!

Jai

Lmaoooo not multiple personalities 🤣🤣🤣 that’s what it’s giving thooo

Daviiii

🤪😂

Izzyarsenio

before the first song ended I kept having the thought “this song too long” but tbh it’s not that I hate long songs it just I felt his could’ve ended and it was dragging. I tried to skim the rest but I think I’m becoming eh when it comes to his music. I think he’s just throwing whatever out hoping to get a hit and his label must be pressuring him too bc I think I saw a vid of him saying his label didn’t like his album. but lowkey when artists say this I think the label know when a song gon flop 😭

Charmaine

Lmao right, how is there so much chaos but it’s still lacking 😂

Dee Shanell

Chun He lmao

Dee Shanell

😂

Dee Shanell

😂 when people are confused after hearing your music, that’s not a good sign. He needs to go on a retreat and find himself or something

Dee Shanell

Right, I was like who is this? 😂

Dee Shanell

I wouldn’t be surprised, the vocals kinda sound like Pharrell too

Dee Shanell

Yeah he’s def giving head Barb lol

Dee Shanell

Heyyy

Dee Shanell

the songs just didn’t GRIP me. like u said they’re not BAD songs but it’s just that something is missing, which is crazy bc there’s so much going on🤣

Mikey

😭😂😂

CheloDame's Corner

I really liked these first two songs, with the last one I probably need more time. It’s kinda sad, that he doesn’t really get recognized for them

Gian Luca

None of these songs did anything for me. Idk if it's just me but I dont hear the same confidence you would hear from him on songs like Old Town Road, Industry Baby or Rodeo. I never paid attention to any of the controversies that he had back in the day but whatever backlash he went thru shook his confidence down to the core.

lilrickyfrm51

Ricky Minaj, Robbie Zolanski & Chun-He, all in 1 song

Izzyarsenio

Your face in the third song had me crying 😭

Chris Bennett

That should’ve been his retirement song because.. no😭

Clitminaj

What in the fuck did I just watch?? We all had the same face 15:01

Clitminaj

that last song irritated me to bad !!😭 it was so much going onnn

Jaiden Collier

yea i wish he did it the way it was done in the 00s - 10s, release your main single and have a simple b-side that compliments the main single cause three different releases is jarring

onyx 💫

HATE hotbox, thats it and thats all on that one. I was NOT expecting Right There to sound like that AT ALL!!! WTH??! 😂😅 I was so confused. Dreamboy... WHO is singing on this, because boy aint no way boy... This is not it. Imo i think he is just in search for a new sound... TBH after he OD'ed on all the gimmicky music the passed few years, he is just not that relevant in the music industry anymore and people lost interest... Hope he finds his mojo back tho!💯🙏🏾

clarence.

Haven't watched yet but I heard these all a couple days ago and every last one of these songs sound too different. He is really lost as an artist and it shows

Sachiii

As a person who’s been checking out his music since his first ep, he still has yet to find his own sound. I personally think he was trying survive off the “gay blasphemous” gimmick until people found it annoying so he stopped. 2 of his tracks sounded like he sat down with outcast’s love below album on repeat and went to the booth 😂🤦🏾‍♂️ He’s really a “singles” artist like a tyga, Russ, and Soulja boy.

Nashty Doud

Does Hotbox sample a Pharrell song? It’s really giving 2000’s neptunes

Emmanuel Davies

I really like hot box, but the fact dude released so many songs and no one is talking about it, he's kinda really fell off

Tyler Alexander

the mv for hotbox is very super bass core

onyx 💫

hey dee
