Hey, it's time for a brand new WIP Diary series, hooray! This one's for my latest commission, courtesy of @flamingnaughts on twitter! I'm gonna be sculpting an absolutely t h i c c grandpa tanuki, it's gonna be great.
Starting off with the bare armature this time, so y'all can see more of my starting process! I start off by taping together two roughly-equal lengths of aluminum wire, and then I wrap them together using florist wire. This makes sure I don't rip the tape while I'm positioning everything. Next, I start bulking up the armature with tin foil, to get a rough approximation of the sculpture's mass and to have a sturdy base to sculpt on top of. Foil's also much cheaper than clay, so it saves me money in the long run!
Lately, I've been using apoxie as my base layer, so the sculpture has an even stronger foundation to work with. I eventually want to make my sculpts 100% out of apoxie, but I
don't think I'm there quite yet. Sculpey still has its place in my heart...
Things are still pretty rough at the moment, but they're gonna started looking much more detailed real soon!
