okay so I got the rest of my fillings done today and the novocaine's starting to wear off, so I'm gonna try to hammer this one out before the Pain returns to my mouth
SO, a ton happened over the last few days, and I'm gonna try to summarize it the best I can. In addition to making this fine panda as an anniversary gift for Jamie, I'm also making them a resin crystal necklace...so I can propose to them with it. So, NO PRESSURE, but this is my first time doing anything at all like this and I REALLY want it to look good. I started by sculpting out two simple crystals in Super Sculpey Firm, then I made a...one-part(?) mold by just drowning them in Smooth-On mold rubber. I did this back in undergrad and it totally turned out fine, so I'm not worried.
After the mold rubber's finished curing, I popped out the clay crystals and poured in some resin. I got these really nifty looking glitter and gold leaf packs made specifically for resin casting, so I added them in to give the finish product some extra zazz. I let those cure for another 24 hours, and then got back to sculpting Ikky!
A lot also happened here, and I'm very happy to say that I've finally finished all the sculpting work left to be done. Their arms have more mass, they've got a head, they've even got a lil skirt (that doesn't cover up their dick or donut, naturally)! One new detail I've been playing around with on them is expanding the volume of their body hair. I really loved how FatBack rendered it in the pieces they drew for me, it made me think of stuffing bursting out from a teddy bear's seams.
Once the crystals finished curing, I popped them out of their molds and started experimenting with them. I wrapped them up in jewelry wire and tried to tighten it up here and there while also giving it a nice swirly pattern. I also put little dots of apoxie onto overlaps in the wire, and painted over them after they finished curing. I'm gonna see if I can polish up the crystals more later, they still look a little cloudy and I want them to be more transparent. I won't get too choked up if that's not the case, though, I'm still pretty happy with how they've turned out.
Very excited to jump into painting tomorrow, that's when everything's really gonna start to pop. I'll cya then! :03 )
