Re. having a single student solve something on the board: in my experience, this often occurs as part of a review. The students will have encountered these problems before and are expected to take turns "showing their work." Student 1 "solves" problem 1. Student 2 "solves" problem 2. And so on. The expectation is that things go quickly because the problems were previously solved together as a class. I think this scene highlights the impact of her absence.
