Hematite genuine

Today I wanted to talk with you about hematite genuine by Daniel Smith (actually having a quick break from painting commissions and artwork for artbook, wanted to share it with you). I got it in primatek set last December but haven't had a chance to use it until today. Here it is

It's the MOST granulated color I ever had, when you want to do something unusual it will literally do all work for you. And it like dissolves getting a nice warm undertone. But it's extremely hard for me to use this color, I can't explain well why. Maybe because it's close to black and sepia but I'm always use cold blacks like payne's gray or indigo.

But today I painted the second artwork for steampunk artbook (deadline is too close ohh) and decided to use it as a main color. I can't show the full artwork until the con there it will be on sale, so here's some parts to just show how this color works (it's not even lined yet, I'm showing it only to you now hehehe).

There was a yellow-red undertone before so you can't see how it dissolves but the granulation is just OHHHH like magic

But i don't think I will buy another tube of this because it's a very special color, I use it too occasionally (and the full size tube is pricey af)

Okay I'm going back to work now~

Ooh, I didn't even know shinhan had one! I only know about ds, schmincke and holbein dotcards...

Oh you're right! Like to see how the paint will behave ad look after scanning an artwork! I have shinhan pwc dot card, thinking about getting DS one too :D

Wow love the color and texture of this hematite genuine. cant wait to see the full version of the art.

Yep, they are pretty useless for the exact hue, but especially for detecting granulation super helpful! :) and because they are all scanned the same way it's possible to compare them on screen (like if your red is too orange and you are searching for a more bluish red you could compare her swatch of your red with the one(s) you are considering to buy). I love dot cards, too - DS has a great one for around 20€ with all their colors, love that one!

Oh thank you for this color suggestion, I should check it when I will have an oppurtunity! And I should check her website too! But I usually don't believe that much screen swatches since you know, it differs because of monitor settings, but it can be useful anyway! I like using dot cards (or idk how it's calling in English?) where you have dots of paint on watercolor paper with paint info and try the paint to see how it looks, very useful!

It looks amazing! I like the hematites, but can understand your preference for cooler ones - maybe you could try sodalite from DS, it's close to Indigo in hue und super pretty granulating <3 blue apatite is another beautiful granulator, but even more expensive... I love all the primateks! If you don't know her site yet, Jane Blundell has a website where she swatched most available colors from several brands (including the whole DS range), maybe that's interesting for you? :) can't wait to see more amazing granulating artwork from you!
