You picked up most of why everyone hates this movie. 1. Dwight isn't smart. Death Note wasn't a good series because a kid found a magic notebook and killed people. Death Note was a good series because of the cat and mouse game between Light and L then later Light and Near. 2. Dwight not having the autonomy to use the notebook himself. He was pressured into it by Ryuk and it makes him a victim of circumstance instead of a psychopathic genius. 3. Dwight/Mia. Dwight is a simp while Light was a womanizer. Mia was an antagonist further removing Dwight's autonomy of using the notebook. The first time Dwight mentions being a god, he says "what they want is a god..." Light wouldn't care about what others wanted. He wanted to be a god and that's all that mattered. 4. L somehow discovers the existence of Kira without any kind of test. All there is in this movie is a bunch of people dying in various ways. Light wanted everyone to know about Kira so he could be worshipped so he purposefully killed everyone with heart attacks expecting the trend to be noticed. Then L traps Kira with Lind L. Taylor. Here, L goes on TV and makes a million assumptions. He assumes Kira is real. He assumes Kira wants to kill him. He assumes Kira would have been watching TV at the time of the broadcast. He assumes Kira was unable to kill him. Then after Dwight's dad goes on TV and ALSO doesn't die, he assumes Dwight is Kira. L didn't die either. His first assumption should be Kira only kills criminals. L also mentions James Brode and says his incident was only broadcast on local news, but Dwight found him on a livestream online. 5. Watari. Everything about his death. Dwight killed him with only a first name. A first name that was an alias in the anime because using your real name when being the assistant of the super detective that hides his identity would be stupid. Dwight doesn't write down a cause of death and states "dealer's choice," when no specified cause of death should result in a heart attack. 6. "Burning the page" rule. This one just makes no sense. If 20 names are written on a page how would burning the page work if you can only prevent one death this way? 7. Mia's death. Dwight wrote a conditional death without ever testing to see if that kind of thing works... Sort of. He wrote "when she takes the notebook." Not "if." In addition, he used the Death Note to specify that he would survive the fall AND controlled a page of the Death Note to fall into fire. 8. They tried to exposit the series of events at the end of the movie to make Dwight seem smart, but he didn't do anything smart at all. He just wrote the script to end the act.
