When Thorfinn says "protect this place" to Olmar I think he's come to understand that fighting is inevitable and can't be stopped. That's basically what he said to Canute, paraphrased "Your world helps a lot of people." He knows that this farm is still a part of normal civilization and that's the rules. His thing now is just offering an alternative for the people who can't abide that anymore. While obviously it'd be great if everyone became peaceful that's not what he's trying to push.

Why uproot your whole lives to do it again especially when things seem to have worked themselves out?

2024-09-06 21:57:13 +0000 UTCI believe the reason Canute sieged the farm is because he'd been corrupted by the crown, forgetting his initial ideals, and was just actually naïve as to the other methods because they haven't ever been done like that before. He realizes all of this ONLY after Thorfinn shows him that real change from the roots is possible. Thorfinn is the only person to never deceive him in a negotiation or try to harm him at all, so it was pretty shocking for him.
