Think you got a bit confused about people not following Canute's orders - in the battle all his men were doing the right thing, but the Jomsvikings were just doing whatever the fuck they wanted. But the Jomsvikings are not Canute's men; they are Jomsvikings and so they only answer to their leader in Jomsborg. They would be considered allies in this fight, or possibly a hired mercenary force.
