The issue with L's side is that he has a legal burden of proof as well as an agent of the law. And everything L says is calculated. Moreso than light. Many watchers of the show suspect he knew with that zoom in look right there, that Light is Kira. And now he has the almost impossible task of proving it. If it wasnt for reasonable doubt, this episode ends the show in my opinion.
